QB’s
Not happy that I had to cut Justin Herbert after picking him up two weeks ago. I had to backup KC D with the Bears because I had no roster spots left and no IR either. (3 IR, Barkley, Reagor, Sutton). JH looked great Sunday, showing off impressive arm strength and backing it up with accuracy. I will attempt to get him back this week by blowing another $20 in FAAB, my other Q’s are Kirk Cousins and Daniel Jones. Not good. This is an auction Keeper league and the one player I missed out on because I turned my head for a mere 20 seconds was Josh Allen!!!!! For $4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have went $12-15 probably and gotten him easily. You can’t sleep for a second in Auctions. I am 0-4 in this league. If I had Allen, despite the injuries, I probably would be 2-2. My biggest Fantasy regret so far this season. I want Herbert over Carr, Teddy B, probably even Fitz. Stafford I would still take over JH, but Justin looks great and should be on your rosters if you need a QB and/or you are in a SuperFlex/Two QB/Dynasty league. I did get him in Dynasty, so I am happy about that, although Josh Allen is my starter !!
RB’s
I think Damien Harris is the best pickup this week at RB. He will be playing in a optimal situation and it’s almost like you foresaw the Pats going to Harris by default this season. They were sort of limiting Sony Michel, kind of phasing him out to prepare for the Harris replacement. I liked Harris last year, but he never got a chance. I think he is a very good bet to take the job here as the main runner in this offense. The Pats threw him out there for 17 carries after him being on IR for the first three weeks. His 41 yard run was fairly nice. With Cam back and the fact that the Pats want to run the rock, Harris should be the guy as long as Sony Michel is out. Like I mentioned, I believe the Pats were already transitioning to Harris this season so he likely keeps the job regardless. The pass catching won’t be there much, if at all, that will be Rex and James, but Harris could finish the season with 6-10 Rushing TD’s and average 80-90 yards per game. Rex/James will still mix in with Harris, but I think the Pats are going to give Harris every chance to be the #1 Runner.
Justin Jackson is the next guy to grab, or if you prefer him over Harris, that’s fine too. Jackson was a value draft pick this season and probably would have had some nice games already this year if he didn’t get hurt Week 1. Josh Kelley stepped up early in his absence, but has faded since and has been coughing up the ball. With Ekeler out, I think Jackson is leg up on Kelly has been the best RB in the backfield. It may be a 50/50 split now but that will likely change to Jackson getting the majority soon. Ekeler’s hamstring injury is supposedly 4-6 weeks, but he strikes mas the type of guy that will beat that timetable. Still, even when Eckler returns, Jackson could be in the 1B spot for the rest of the year.
Chase Edmunds is never going to be a reliable thing with Kenyan Drake still in the mix, so he’s really just a handcuff. I don’t think he takes Drake’s Job as the main ball carrier, he already has his role as the top receiving option, as Drake is seeing little to no targets, which I think is dumb. The Cards aren’t blocking well for Drake, unless that changes he may be in for a bust season. They need to start getting him space and throwing the ball, that would amplify Drake’s talent, right now they are hiding it.
I’m not sure if D’Ernest Johnson is the better option over Dontrell Hilliard. I think it’s close, so if don’t go nuts after Johnson because Hilliard could end up being more valuable. Neither guy is overly talented, not even close to Hunt or Chubb, so expectations should be tempered. The Chubb injury is rough, I have him in 3 of my biggest BestBall leagues and in the NFC Online Championship. Just have to weather the storm, Chubb could be back in 4 weeks.
I’ve been talking about Anthony McFarland and DeeJay Dallas all season long, stay patient with these guys, one of them may pop in the next few weeks.
This has nothing to do with pickups, but Darrell Henderson’s usage last week left fantasy owners bewildered. Sean McVay’s response as to why Henderson barely played was even more confusing. Henderson is still the best back here, stay patient, now is also the time to trade for him.
WR’s
Tre’Quan Smith has been slowly emerging with Michael Thomas out and showed out last week with Two TD’s. With Thomas back soon, Manny Sanders in the mix and Brees having checkdown Gold in Alvin Kamara, I am not sure Smith is a consistent option you can rely upon. Looks like a pass, unless you need a guy for a few more weeks while Thomas is out. There is good upside here, but it may never pan out.
I am assuming Tee Higgins is rostered, but if he’s out there make sure you grab him, he should have been drafted and kept or at the very least, picked up a couple weeks ago. Higgins is only going to get better as the season goes on and could be the best Rookie WR in this class.
I am also assuming Laviska Shenault is rostered as well. Shenault may give you a steady 10 points per game, but I think his upside is capped there.
Speaking of rookies, Jalen Reagor out there? Have an IR Spot? Stash him there, even if you have a bench spot, he may be back in two weeks. You can have fantasy gold for late run.
I mentioned this in my Week 4 Assessment last week, but Gabriel Davis needs to be picked up if you got a spot. John Brown’s calf injury may linger and as the season goes on Davis and Allen will get more and more comfortable together. Davis has the talent and the opportunity to succeed.
TE’s
Robert Tonyan went Nuclear Monday with 3 TD’s and now has 5 TD’s this season. Will it hold up? It’s possible, but I can tell you that defenses have not respected Tonyan at all so far, leaving him largely uncovered. That will likely change very soon. He is still worth adding playing with Rodgers and they are being creative with him, but he’s likely going to fizzle out. Just don’t go nuts adding him in FAAB.
Eric Ebron hanging around the wire? Still a talented guy, playing with Ben who historically likes the Tight End. Ebron may have some duds, but he’s trending up and should have a decent season in his first year in Pittsburgh.
Still not giving up hope on Dalton Keene at TE for the Pats this season. Maybe it never pops, but Ryan Izzo is doing nothing, To me, Keene is their best receiving tight end, he needs some work. Keep him on your radar.
