Mid-Day Player News 9/23

Beanie Wells

He will be back this week but be cautious with him. Coach Whisenhunt said he won’t get 25 carries all of a sudden because he’s not in game shape. Beat Writer for the Arizona Republic Kent Somers is guessing Beanie will get about 10-15 carries. Beanie makes for a decent flex play this week but it looks like Hightower may lead the carries for at least one more week.

Marshawn Lynch

Coach Chan Gailey indicated that Marshawn Lynch will “play a lot this week” against the Patriots.
“He ran the ball pretty good [last week],” said Gailey. “You could tell he was rusty from last year not having played a ton and getting back into it this year.” Don’t really know what the Bills are doing. Maybe they aren’t going to trade Lynch. Meanwhile C.J. Spiller was drafted #9 to do nothing as of right now.

C.J. Spiller

“He’s still going to make a lot of big plays for us in the future,” Gailey said. “We just need to get him going on a little slower pace than throwing him in there from the get-go.” Will see what happens but it doesn’t appear to bode well for Spiller anytime soon. I am a proud owner of CJ and I am holding on to him and you should to. He is the best player on the Bills but apparently kind of like the Chiefs with Jamal Charles they haven’t fully realized it yet.

Dez Bryant

He should be fine for Sunday. He has his ankle rolled up last week and was limited in practice yesterday but he says he will be out there. We expect him to as well.

Chris Ivory (Saints RB)

He particapated fully in practice this week. The Saints backup looks like a go this week in the absence of Reginald Bush. It remains to be seen what kind of role he plays as Ladell Betts could possibly be a factor to. Ivory is worth a pickup if you have the room. If Thomas goes down he becomes the main back in the Saints high-powered offense.

Percy Harvin

Percy Harvin (hip, migraine) said he was “feeling great” after returning to a limited practice on Thursday.

Of the hip, Harvin said, “A lot of people said I looked normal. It feels good. It gets fatigued at times. But with treatment, keep lifting and getting strong, I should make a full recovery.” Harvin said the migraine attack came on Monday, but he went home Wednesday and “woke up energized and ready” for Thursday’s practice. “I wouldn’t call [the migraine] a setback,” said Harvin. “I’m actually happy” because it had been a month since the last episode. Looks like Percy is a go for this weekend after it being questionable yesterday. Continue to monitor him but he looks Ok and has a nice matchup this week against Detroit

Maurice Jones-Drew

Maurice Jones-Drew (ankle) was limited again in Thursday’s practice.
Offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter confirmed earlier in the day that Jones-Drew is in no danger of missing this week’s game. Jones also stated that he would not trade himself in Fantasy leagues. He said he is in store for a breakout game soon. Maybe it comes this week against the Eagles. No reason for Jones-Drew to be on your bench or traded at this point.

Benard Berrian

Again was limited in practice Thursday but looks like a go as well. So it looks like Favre won’t have to throw to Hank Baskett this weekend! Berrian should be ok but again like with Harvin monitor his status.

Jerome Harrison

Out of practice the last two days Eric Mangini said he looks for Harrison to practice Friday. Will see, Mangini also made a statement that if players continue to cause turnovers (aka Harrison who fumbled last week) they will be taken out of the game. Harrison is on thin ice right now so he really needs to step his game up. If he plays this week it will be tough to step it up against the Baltimore Defense. Also be aware of Browns 3rd string back James Davis. As of right now Peyton Hillis is the man to own in that backfield.

Malcom Floyd

The Chargers WR, returned to a full practice today after sitting out yesterday with soreness in his leg. He is expected to practice tomorrow as well and be good to go for Sunday. He’s a decent option this week, but so far QB Phillip Rivers has yet to pick out a receiver besides TE Antonio Gates on a consistent basis. If you have better options, i’d sit Floyd until we figure out whose the “go to guy” at the receiver position, Floyd, Legedu Naanee or Buster Davis.

Brett Favre

In a “big” surprise, Favre was limited in practice today with an ankle ailment of some sort. It’s the first time since joining the team that he didn’t have a full practice. This obviously is an issue he’ll have to deal with all season, but if you know Favre he’ll be out on the field Sunday in Detroit.
