Injury Updates 9/20

By Mike Cannici

Another interesting week in the NFL and as always, there were plenty of injuries.  Some were serious, some were not so serious but either way, here’s the breakdown.

Jets star CB Darrelle Revis left Sundays win against the Patriots after reaggravating his hamstring injury after Randy Moss beat him deep to make an unbelievable one-handed catch in the end zone. Revis is expected to miss week 3 at least, if not more, with this injury.

Jets LB Jason Taylor was also injured Sunday(elbow) but was able to play through it and finished with 4 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. He will have an MRI today on that elbow.

Broncos Pro Bowl CB Champ Bailey left Sunday’s game with an undisclosed leg injury. He was seen using crutches after the game, which is obviously not a good sign. The Denver Post reports that there is a good chance Champ misses their upcoming week 3 game. Keep an eye on this as the week goes on but it doesn’t look like you’ll see him on the field this Sunday. Hopefully he won’t be out much longer than that.

Chargers Rookie RB Ryan Mathews left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. Coach Norv Turner said he kept Mathews out of the remainder of the game so that it didn’t turn “a one-week injury into a six week injury.” It is not yet known whether Mathews will play this week, but Mike Tolbert, not Darren Sproles appears to be the handcuff if Mathews is unable to go this week. Falcon RB Michael Turner suffered a groin injury during Sunday’s blowout win against the Cardinals. Jason Snelling came on in relief and had a great game, finishing with 186 total yards and 3 scores. Before the injury Turner had 9 carries for 75 yards. Snelling is a must-own handcuff for all Turner owners in case this injury lingers. The Falcons don’t believe the injury to be serious and say that Turner would have gone back into the game had it been close. We will see as the week goes on what the truth really is, but Jason Snelling is sure to be one of the top waiver pick ups this week.
