FantasySavvy 2012: Week Seven Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

As seen from my article on FP911.com. Make sure to check there for tons of great info. My Rankings will be out late Saturday Night. Everyone enjoy the game tonight. Also make sure to check our radio show tonight at 12:30 est at Blogtalkradio.com/FantasySavvy.

Bad week in Week six, I over thought some things and went a little too stat heavy which is unlike me. I am anything but a stat dork! So I will mix back a little more intuition this week and that should clean things up. I received a lot of questions last week and I’m open to more, feel free to email me at SteveDeAngelo@gmail.com or ask @FantasySavvy on Twitter.

You won’t see the obvious names on here, that would be pointless. Maybe occasionally to give you a reminder, but rather we are looking to identify some guys that you may be on the fence with and encourage you to either start or sit them. Matchups will be broken down, stats will be used, some projections will be provided and some “gut” feeling will be mixed in. But when it comes down to the come down, it’s your “gut” you need to roll with.

*Players listed in order of projected effectiveness in the start ‘em category and ineffectiveness in the sit ‘em category.

Quarterbacks

Start ‘Em

Tony Romo @ Carolina

Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys

Romo usually is an every week starter and really doesn’t belong on this list, but his rough start has his owners playing matchups. But despite him averaging just one TD a game in his last four, things will certainly improve. Jason Garrett talked about being more balanced on offense coming off their bye week and it showed last week as the Cowboys ran for over 200 yards against the Ravens. This obviously helps Tony Romo tremendously and the Cowboys despite DeMarco Murray being out should be able to move the chains on the ground again as Carolina has one of the worst rush defenses. Look for Romo to stay fairly consistent from here on out and for it to start this week. I expect around 250-280 yards passing with at least two TD’s.

Carson Palmer vs Jacksonville

Palmer is a fairly decent Fantasy QB, let’s face it. The guy isn’t good outside of Fantasy Football anymore, but he can give you those 300-yard two TD type games from time to time. This is a good matchup vs Palmer as he comes home and faces Jacksonville who are giving up an average of 20 points per game to Fantasy QB’s. Look for Palmer to approach 300 yards once again and find the endzone once or twice. Let’s just hope he doesn’t throw over two interceptions if your league is subtracting minus two points per INT.

Josh Freeman vs New Orleans

I was impressed that Freeman threw for over 300 yards against Kansas City who had been improving recently. This week he faces New Orleans and should throw it over 35 times as he tries to keep pace with Drew Brees. The Saints have also been bad against the pass giving up 25 points a week to Fantasy QB’s. Look for Freeman to put up Fantasy worthy numbers.

Sit ‘Em

Christian Ponder vs Arizona

Ponder excelled the last two weeks in what were two great matchups against the Titans and Skins, but he faces a much tougher test against Arizona who are allowing the third fewest points to Fantasy QB’s. Ponder will come back to earth this week as he faces a legit Defense.

Matt Stafford @ Chicago

Stafford continues to frustrate owners every week and is still without a multi-TD game. It won’t turnaround on Monday Night in Chicago against the Bears who are allowing just 13 points a week to Fantasy QB’s, which is best in the league.

Joe Flacco @ Houston

The Texans defense hasn’t been as strong as last year, but they still have been good. And even though they allowed six passing TD”s to Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco is a far cry from Rodgers. Sorry Flacco but you are not elite! On the road, I expect Flacco to struggle a bit here and likely will be held to one TD, so explore other options.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

Stevan Ridley vs New York Jets

Because of his late game fumble in Week five against Denver, Ridley was getting less carries than Brandon Bolden last week before Bolden got hurt. When it comes to fumbling Bill Belichick does not play around. Fortunately for Ridley, Bolden did get hurt and might not play this week. Ridley has a great chance to restore his coach’s confidence against the Jets and should find running lanes against New York who are giving up 25 points per game to Fantasy Backs. He should find the endzone and finish with a nice game. Let’s just hope as Ridley owners he holds onto the ball!

Chris Johnson @ Buffalo

I still don’t like the way Johnson is running this season, going down easily and a little too much east to west, but he has started to pick it up a bit over the last few weeks. This has to be a matchup he can succeed in against Buffalo. The Titans should stay close in this game and Johnson should should find room against the Bills who are allowing 29 points a game to Fantasy Backs, sixth worst in the league. C’mon Chris don’t let us down this week, otherwise you will never be on this list again!

Felix Jones @ Carolina

Felix Jones, Dallas Cowboys

Jones was probably the number one waiver pick up this week with the news that DeMarco Murray will be out in Week seven. Also, with backs like Reggie Bush, LeSean McCoy and Jamaal Charles on a bye this week, Jones makes for a nice replacement. The stars have aligned to start Jones here, good matchup (Carolina 2nd worst in points allowed to Fantasy Backs) and Murray is out, allowing pretty much full reign for Jones, although we will see a little Phillip Tanner. You picked Jones up, so stick him in your lineups this week.

Sit ‘Em

Mikel LeShoure @ Chicago

Good news for LeShoure owners that Jahvid Best will not be returning this season, but bad news this week as he goes against the Bears who have allowed the 2nd fewest points to Fantasy Backs. LeShoure hasn’t succeeded in tough matchups before so no reason to think he will here. Keep him benched if you can.

Frank Gore vs Seattle

Going to be a slow physical game in San Fran tonight and Gore won’t find much running room against the Hawks who haven’t allowed a 100-yard rusher all season and given up just two rushing TD’s.

Marshawn Lynch @ San Francisco

Lynch is one of the few who have went over 100 yards against the 49ers and Bradshaw did it last week, but I still am sitting Lynch if I can. Many of us might not have that luxury, but don’t expect another 100-yard game.

Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em

Stevie Johnson vs Tennessee

Stevie Johnson, Buffalo Bills

The Titans D has allowed 77 points to Fantasy WR’s the last two weeks and Stevie Johnson should burn them as well. Johnson is a must start this week.

Vincent Jackson vs New Orleans

Phillip Rivers looked like he could of used Vincent Jackson on Monday Night as he struggled mightily.  But unfortunately for Rivers, Jackson has taken his talents to Tampa Bay and has enjoyed continued success with Josh Freeman. Jackson had two TD’s last week and now has four on the year to go along with two 100-yard games. He will be targeted early and often against New Orleans and should easily produce. Even with ineptitude of Josh Freeman, Jackson is proving to be a every week starter regardless of matchup.

Lance Moore @ Tampa Bay

Outside of last week where Tampa faced Brady Quinn the Bucs have allowed over 37 points a game to Fantasy WR’s, including allowing a whopping 76 points to Giants WR’s in week two. Drew Brees will be tossing the rock all day and I look for Lance Moore and Brees to hook up on those back shoulder throws. Go outside Sunday and try to run a couple of those back shoulders throws 15 yards down the field with a defender on the receiver. These guys make it look easy! Moore should find the endzone at least once, at the very least approach 100 yards in this game.

Sit ‘Em

Andre Roberts @ Minnesota

Roberts is talented and it seemed like he was going to be in for a nice little season, but the last two weeks he has fizzed out. He won’t rebound against the Vikings on the road with John Skeleton now at QB. Let’s see how these two work together before reinserting Roberts back into our lineups. Andre could be a waiver candidate soon if he puts up a few more duds.

Michael Crabtree vs Seattle

This game is going to be a slugfest and both offenses will struggle. Keep Crabtree benched for this tough matchup on Thursday Night.

Steve Smith vs Dallas

My gut is telling me Smith may have a breakout game here, but the numbers say otherwise so I will stick with the numbers and logic here. Smith doesn’t have a TD all year and has been held under 100 yards in his last three games. Dallas has been 2nd best against Fantasy Wideouts so consider benching Smith if you have a more lucrative option.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Jason Witten @ Carolina

Witten had a horrible start to the year, but he has returned to normalcy with two strong performances against Chicago and Baltimore. Last time you will see Witten here, he should remain an every week starter from here on in as he continues to be one of Romo‘s top targets.

Martellus Bennett vs Washington

This game should be a wild, high scoring affair in the Meadowlands and Bennett should play a nice role against the Skins who are allowing the 2nd most points to Fantasy Tight Ends. Bennett has slowed up after a fast start, but he should rebound in this game; it’s a good spot to plug him in.

Heath Miller @ Cincinnati

Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers

Heath Miller is actually younger than me! That’s pretty scary as I just turned 30 years old and Miller is only 29. Actually looking at it I’m only eight days older than the guy! It seems like this guy has been playing in the league for 10 years.  So this guy definitely ain’t crusty, although I may have thought that a few times. I know I’m not crusty, although my knee has swelled up from consistently banging it while playing football on Sundays! But dang, being 30 blows. Oh well I made my mistakes, now it’s time to dominate. Ok, back to the youthful and vibrant Miller who started out his first three games with four TD’s, but has slowed down some. Still, he is being targeted often by Big Ben and will be a good play most weeks. This is a matchup he can thrive in against the Bengals who are allowing the 8th most points to Fantasy Tight Ends.

Sit ‘Em

Dennis Pitta @ Houston

So much for Dennis Pitta. This guy was on fire to start the year and has done absolutely jack the last few weeks. I have him in a few leagues and will be holding him for a few more weeks just out of necessity, but he will probably be cut soon, unless he shows some signs. Keep him benched until he proves himself again.

Jermichael Finely @ St. Louis

Finley has been an absolute Fantasy Bust! Let’s face it, this guy is just simply overrated and always has been. Don’t expect a rebound, you will just be disappointed. Try to move him this week before it’s too late, it may already be. He’s going to do nothing again this week most likely. Even when he gets targets he drops the ball! Fughedaboutit!!!

Fred Davis @ New York Giants

I think Davis and Griffin will be a better combo as the season moves on, but right now Davis isn’t providing much (hasn’t scored a TD this season) and this is a tough matchup against the G-Men who are allowing the sixth fewest points to Tight Ends.

IDP’s

Start ‘Em

Chandler Jones vs New York Jets

The Jets have given up the 24th most points to Fantasy DE’s this season and Chandler has enjoyed a nice rookie season with five sacks and three forced fumbles. The Jets will be passing a ton in this game, so Jones will have plenty of shots on Sanchez and should get a sack or two.

Malcolm Jenkins @ Tampa Bay

Malcolm Jenkins, New Orleans Saints

Like this spot for Jenkins against Tampa who will be running a lot initially giving Jenkins a chance to rack up tackles. I look for around seven or eight tackles from Jenkins in this game.

Sit ‘Em

DeAngelo Hall @ New York Giants

Hall sees this list a lot because I don’t trust him against good QB’s. Hall exploits bad QB’s not good ones and I think he will struggle to produce going against Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz and Eli Manning.

Cortland Finnegan vs Green Bay Packers

Finnegan has been one of the better Fantasy Corners with 34 tackles, three picks and seven pass deflections. But I don’t think he gets any picks this week nor many pass deflections going against Aaron Rodgers. Tough matchup, I would look to bench him.

FantasySavvy 2012: Week 6, Fantasy Five

By: Kevin Lewis

Houston @ Green Bay

-With Greg Jennings out, look for Randall Cobb to get increased playing time and touches. I’d start him pretty comfortably at the flex spot this week, especially in leagues that account for return yardage.

-Although they have Arian Foster in the backfield, start Matt Schaub. Green Bay’s secondary is spotty, and Andre Johnson will be looking to rebound from a dismal 1 catch for 15 yards effort on Monday night.

-I’m not sure what to make of Alex Green or anyone else in the Packer backfield at the current juncture. Green did well last week against a spotty Colts defense and looks like he has some talent. The Packers may try to establish the run. I’d keep him on the bench a week until it becomes clear how the Packers will employ their backfield. I do like his upside though.

-Be patient with Jordy Nelson. Rodgers has been uncharacteristically inaccurate on deep balls, and that should regress to the mean. And for those who DON’T own him, try and buy him low before Sunday. It is a perfect time to do so.

New York @ San Francisco

-I know Ahmad Bradshaw had 200 yards last week. That was the Cleveland Browns. These are the San Francisco 49ers. Sit him. Just do it. Trust me.

-Every Giant weapon in the passing game is start worthy (assuming Nicks is healthy and will play). They are clicking, and they won’t do much against the 49ers on the ground. If Nicks doesn’t play, I’d hesitantly start Reuben Randle.

-If you have a bye week QB, starting Alex Smith probably isn’t the worst thing in the world. If you can do better, go for it though.

Buffalo @ Arizona

-I don’t know what to make of Fred Jackson for the rest of the year, but this is a tough matchup for him and Buffalo is a mess. I preach patience with him as his production should increase as he gets healthier and his schedule gets lighter. For this week, I’d leave him alone though.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a decent alternative if you have a QB on a bye week. He’ll throw a lot, there will probably be garbage time and thus the numbers will look pretty enough.

– Regarding the Cardinals RB situation, Larod Stephens-Howling and William Powell aren’t particularly promising options but I think Powell can contribute in PPR leagues. I’d watch both of them carefully however.

-Start Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Roberts with confidence. Buffalo’s defense is a comedy routine. Watch and laugh expeditiously.

Dallas @ Baltimore

-If you have an alternative, sit Tony Romo. The interior of Dallas OL is comically bad, and they’ll have to deal with a good pass defense in the Ravens. I think Ravens DB Cary Williams will get picked on a bit, but not enough to make Romo a good start this week.

– That being said, I expect Dallas to be playing from behind so Miles Austin and to a lesser extent Dez Bryant are both good plays on Sunday.

-You can’t bench Torrey Smith but I don’t expect much from him this week. I expect Ray Rice to do serious damage, especially after the talk of him not getting the ball enough was a popular topic last week.

– If you have DeMarco Murray try and move him for a decent package right now before his value drops too much. This week might be a good week to do it as Baltimore’s run defense has struggled.

Cleveland @ Cincinnati

– Joe Haden returns this week for Cleveland, but you are still starting A.J. Green regardless.

– If you haven’t already done so, drop Greg Little. He’s a waste of time.

-There is no reason to take Trent Richardson out of the lineup. He’s a borderline elite fantasy back at this rate and is incredibly fun to watch on a side note

-Cincinnati’s D/ST is probably a good bet with Brandon Weeden starting for the Browns.

Fantasy Savvy Player Rankings Week 13

With one week before the playoffs, I had to get these rankings out to you. We know you need them, so I am are here to deliver. It should be noted that these rankings aren’t your typical sissy rankings. Sometimes certain guys just need to be ranked higher or lower based on what has been happening of late or because of a certain matchup. I see a lot of these rankings that are just so robotic based on a players past history and name recognition. If the guy hasn’t been doing it all year or has a certain matchup then he needs to be dropped in the rankings, on the other hand if you have a guy who has been hot in recent weeks and has a nice matchup, he deserves to be moved up. In other words, a lot of these other sites have NO BALLS, they take the “Safe” route, because most of them are real life dorks anyway. I try to do the best I can with this. Now to the best rankings in the business. May all your teams win this week!

Don’t forget to head over to http://www.FP911Challenge.com to play the best Fantasy Football game this year. It’s an opportunity to not only win a seat at $75,000 but you can also take on Tony Cincotta, Paul Greco and Lenny Melnick. It’s time to invest in a better Fantasy Football game. Check it out now.

QB’s Start Em’

Matt Ryan, Atlanta vs Minnesota

After a pretty horrid start to the year, Matt Ryan is starting to heat up of late. Ryan has back to back 300 yard games with 6 TD’s in his last three outings. Ryan can now be trusted again. He is playing to the caliber that was expected when Owners drafted him. This week, an EXCELLENT matchup vs the Minnesota secondary who are dead last in points allowed to Fantasy QB’s.

Vince Young, Philadelphia vs New England

Vince Young just wins games. He did it yet again with a eight minute winning drive against the Giants on Sunday night. I suggested Vince last week, I thought he perform a bit better, but he was serviceable with 250 yards and 2 TD’s. However the three interceptions decreased his numbers a bit. Vince also isn’t really running all that much anymore. He really is committed to sticking in that pocket. It’s now to the point where Vince only really runs if he has to. But Vince, after a rough 1st half, shook off the cobwebs and made some big throws in that game. I think he performs even better in this game against New England whose secondary is still extremely poor. It really looks like Vick will be out again, so stick with Vince again this week and expect around 18-25 fantasy points.
Tim Tebow, Denver @ San Diego

Do you still doubt Tebow? In a very tough matchup against the Jets, he still managed to put up around 18 fantasy points. Well it’s gonna be Tebow Time once again in San Diego as he will finish with around 18-25 points in this one. Norv Turner could be fired after this game, if Tebow devastates the Chargers. Expect a bit more in the passing game from Tebow this week with his usual 40-80 yards rushing.
Sit Em’

Andy Dalton, Cincy vs Cleveland

Dalton had a rough one last week tossing three picks against Baltimore, although he did throw for 345 yards and a TD. But he was missing AJ Greenand could be missing him again this week. Cleveland has been the best secondary against QB’s all year led by CB Joe Haden. Green possibly out again, tough matchup, keep Dalton on the bench this week.
Josh Freeman @ Tennessee

Freeman probably had his best game last week against Green Bay, but that was kind of expected since we knew it would be a shootout and Green Bay’s secondary has been allowing a lot of points to Fantasy QB’s. This week the game will be slowed down and Tampa will use LeGarette Blountmore often to attack the Titans weak run defense. The Titans also have been fairly stout against the pass allowing the eighth least amount of points to QB’s.
Joe Flacco vs 49ers

Joe cool played pretty well against the Bengals last week throwing for 270 and 2 TD’s. But keep in mind Cincy was without their best corner Leon Hall. The 49ers come to town this week and they are going to limit Flacco and this pass game. Ray Rice will be bottled up by the 49ers #1 Rush D and that will in turn affect Flacco’s performance.
RB’s Start Em’

Reggie Bush @ Dallas

Reggie now has 4 TD’s in his last three games and is playing very well. Miami has turned to him in recent weeks and it’s paying off. Matt Moore has also been playing much better and this offense can now move the ball consistently. Gotta stick with Reggie here on Thanksgiving and hope he keeps it rolling, I think he will.
Rashad Mendenhall vs Kansas City

This is the perfect game to use Mendenhall. The Steelers will have a commanding lead in this game and that means plenty of carries for Mendy. Look for around 100 yards and 1-2 TD’s in this game.
Willis McGahee @ San Diego

Willis had plenty of time to rest his injured hammy and should be fine in this matchup. Expect the zone read with Tebow to open holes for Willis in this game. McGahee is going to get plenty of burn and should find the endzone.
Sit Em’

Toby Gerhart @ Atlanta

The beast that is Adrian Peterson is OUT for this week so the Great White Hope Toby Gerhart will step in. But unless you have to start Gerhart, you really want to keep him on the bench. Atlanta has been pretty nice against the run all year ranked 6th in defending RB’s. Don’t think Gerhart really has the skillset to get it done in this matchup, keep him benched.
CJ Spiller @ New York Jets

Fred Jackson OUT FOR THE YEAR! WOW! First we thought it was just a calf strain, but now word is it’s a broken leg. Until recently Jackson was one of the best backs in Fantasy this season. But now the young, talented Spiller will get a chance to show his skills. I like Spiller a lot going forward, just not in this matchup against the Jets run D who have been playing extremely well of late. Plus Ryan Fitzpatrick has been so brutal and will do nothing to help Spiller’s cause. Spiller has a ton of talent, it’s just not really going to show this week.
Ray Rice @ San Francisco

I’m not saying to definitely bench Rice, but if you have other options to go with you’re going to have to think about it. This 49ers D just has been so good all year and I don’t see Rice scoring in this matchup. I think the only way you consider Rice is in a PPR league, other than that you keep him benched. I wouldn’t expect any more than 80 total yards.
WR’s Start Em’

Percy Harvin @ Atlanta

The Vikings made it a point to get Harvin more touches coming off the bye week and Harvin has responded with back to back games with six catches and over 50 yards receiving. With Adrian Peterson out, the Vikings will look to Harvin even more this week, making him a very solid play at Atlanta.
Antonio Brown @ Kansas City

Brown is going to be a staple in this offense the rest of the way. The Steelers pass game has gotten much better in recent weeks and Brown has been apart of that success. Brown should be a solid start from here on out.
Riley Cooper @ New England

Pay attention to the statuses of Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson, if one of them is out, Cooper is a nice little start against New England. Cooper ran some good routes and made some nice catches while being heavily targeted by Vince Young against the Giants on Sunday night. Vince will look Cooper’s way again if Maclin or Jackson end up being out.
Sit Em’

Steve Johnson @ New York Jets

Once again two words: Darrelle Revis

Jerome Simpson vs Cleveland

Bad matchup here against Cleveland and their top secondary. I like Simpson, but this is just a bad matchup, stay away.
Anquan Boldin vs San Francisco

Don’t trust Boldin in this game. I love that 49ers D and they are going to make Flacco look silly, Flacco has looked silly against much lesser defenses. Boldin will produce little here.
TE’s Start Em’

Heath Miller @ Kansas City
Miller has returned to fantasy prominence once again and I love this guy the rest of the way. He is fully healthy now and it shows, he’s running good routes and getting open. Mike Wallace is also opening up things for him underneath and Ben is finding him.
Jacob Tamme vs Carolina

Carolina loves to play in shootouts, it’s like watching a game of Madden. Newton will be slinging and that means Painter will have to sling. How successful can he be? Probably not too much, but Tamme will benefit because Carolina is one of worst at defending the Tight End ranked 21st. Look for Tamme to have a solid game.
Owen Daniels vs Jacksonville

Matt Leinart will be looking for security blankets in his first game in over a year and Owen Daniels will be one of the blankets. Jacksonville also can’t defend the Tight End ranked 30th. Start Daniels.
Sit Em’

Vernon Davis @ Baltimore

Might want to consider sitting Davis this week against the Ravens who are ranked 2nd in points allowed to Tight Ends. Davis has been heating up with two TD’s in his last two games, but if you have another possible option go with that.
Jake Ballard @ New Orleans

The Jake Ballard show is slowing down of late with Ballard only having four catches in his last two games for just 48 yards. I think he starts to decline from here on in, just like the Giants will.
IDP’s Start Em’

Jabari Greer, CB vs New York Giants

Eli is going to be tossing on Monday night and Greer will be deflecting and possibly intercepting. It’s never a good thing when Eli is throwing the ball more than 40 times and that could be the case on Monday night.
Eric Weddle, S vs Denver

Here comes Tim Tebow and the extremely run heavy Denver Broncos. That means plenty of opportunities for Weddle to rack up tackles. He’s a nice IDP start this Sunday because of the style of play of Denver.
Sit Em’

Darrelle Revis vs Buffalo

Fitzpatrick will not be throwing to Johnson much and that is who Revis will be covering. Little opportunity for Revis to be a fantasy factor here.
Chris Houston, CB vs Green Bay

Aaron Rodgers will be throwing darts all day to his wideouts and Houston won’t have much chance of deflecting passes or getting an interception. Look for other options.
