12/3 Player News

Texans WR Andre Johnson tweaked his ankle during Thursday’s loss to the Eagles but an MRI reavealed no serious damage. He’ll be fine going into Week 14 with a 10 day lay off.

Titans QB Kerry Collins(calf) was limited in practice Friday but hopes are that he’ll be able to go Sunday against the weak Jaguars secondary. He would be a big upgrade for Nate Washington and Randy Moss over Rusty Smith. Kenny Britt(hamstring) is eyeing a week 14 return. Britt was able to do some light drills this week but needs one more week to be back in game shape.

Seahawks WR Mike Williams(f00t) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game but says he expects to play. This would be a big hit to Ben Obomanu’s production but Williams very easily could reaggravate this injury and leave the game early, so i’d keep Obomanu in lineups as the Panthers will be keyed on Williams if he’s in the game.

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson(ankle) practiced Friday and is being considered probable for Sunday’s dream matchup with the Bills. I’d expect Toby Gerhart to steal some carries especially if the game gets out of hand early. Percy Harvin(migraines) was limited in practice Friday and is going to be a game time decision.

Antonio Gates(foot), Mike Tolbert(hand) and Ryan Mathews(ankle) are participated in Friday’s practice and are on track to play Sunday. Tolbert and Mathews are expected to split carries with Tolbert the more likely one to take goal line carries.

Jaguars WR Mike Sims-Walker(ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup with the Titans. Upgrade TE Marcedes Lewis as he is the only other viable threat besides Mike Thomas for David Garrard to throw too.

The Browns have confirmed Jake Delhomme will start at QB Sunday in Miami.

Jets Safety Jim Leonhard left Friday’s practice on a cart after breaking his tibia. He will now miss the remainder of the season. This is a big blow to the Jets secondary and return game. Eric Smith and Brodney Pool are expected to rotate in at safety while Antonio Cromartie will take over as the punt returner.

Falcons WR Roddy White(knee) as expected practiced in full Friday and is good to go Sunday against the Bucs.

Raiders TE Zach Miller(foot) said he expects to play in San Diego Sunday in a decent matchup as the Chargers pass defense has been great but they have allowed at least 13 fantasy points to TE’s in 5 of the last 6 weeks.

Colts RB Mike Hart(ankle) was unable to practice Friday but is still expected to play Sunday against the Cowboys. Donald Brown will get the start once again as Joseph Addai(neck/shoulder) seems to be a week away from returning to the starting lineup.

Saints RB Pierre Thomas(ankle) was limited in practice Friday but Coach Payton says there is still a “realistic chance” he will play against the Bengals. Even if Thomas does play he’ll have to fight for touches with Chris Ivory, Reggie Bush and dare I say Julius Jones who has actually showed signs of life since becoming a Saint. I wouldn’t recommend starting Thomas if he does play until his role and health are better known.

Bills RB C.J. Spiller(hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday and will play Sunday in Minnesota. Fred Jackson will still get the majority of touches as Spiller will likely be worked back into the mix slowly.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger(foot) will play Sunday in Baltimore in a big division game. Big Ben was unable to get through a full practice all week but the Steelers will implement more shotgun plays in order to help him make it through the whole game. There is no question if Big Ben can walk, he will play in a game that could very likely decide the division.

11/27 Player News

The Raiders have announced that Bruce Gradkowski and not Jason Campbell will start Sunday against the Dolphins. SOURCE: : Adam Schefter on Twitter

Raiders TE Zach Miller(foot) and Darrius Heyward-Bey(hamstring) are both expected to start Sunday. Miller is an average start as he still doesn’t appear to be 100% and DHB is just too inconsistent to be trusted week in and out.

Maurice Jones-Drew(abdomen) is listed as questionable for Sunday against the Giants but is fully expected to play. He will however be without LT Eugene Monroe which will make MJD’s matchup tougher, but he is a must start. Mike Sims-Walker(ankle) is listed as questionable but is believed to be in the lineup. I’d sit him either way as long as you have another option as I can’t see him being close to 100%.

Titans WR Kenny Britt(hamstring) has been officially ruled out once again. Rookie QB Rusty Smith will make his first start against the horrid Texans pass defense, making Nate Washington and Randy Moss decent options even with the rookie under center.

Texans TE Owen Daniels(hamstring) has been ruled out meaning Joel Dreessen will start once again and is a low end TE1 this week.

Redskins WR Santana Moss(hamstring) is going to be a game time decision and I recommend sitting him as these hamstring injuries can flare up at a moments notice. If you have another option, use him.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart(concussion) and QB Jimmy Clausen(concussion) are both expected to return this week. Stewart will likely split carries with Mike Goodson in his return against the Browns.

Browns QB Jake Delhomme(ankle) is 100% healed and will get the start with Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace nursing ankle injuries. He is not a fantasy option.

Seahawks receiver Mike Williams(foot) is going to be a game time decision and will play sparingly even if he does play. Explore other options and keep Williams on benches for the time being.

Chiefs TE Tony Moeaki(concussion) and Dexter McCluster(ankle) are both expected to return to the lineup Sunday in Seattle. Moeaki is a low end TE1 while McCluster shouldn’t be started unless your in return yardage leagues.

Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall(hamstring) will miss his first game due to injury in his career. QB Chad Henne(knee) apparently has some miracle healer because two weeks ago we thought his season was over, but he will now start Sunday in Oakland.

Chargers TE Antonio Gates(foot) is a game time decision but most reports i’ve read lean towards him sitting. Don’t wait until 8pm to see if he’s active, start someone else. RB Ryan Mathews(ankle) will sit again leaving Mike Tolbert to get the bulk of the carries against the Colts and their 30th ranked run defense.

Colts WR Austin Collie(concussion), RB’s Joseph Addai(neck) and Mike Hart(ankle) have all been ruled out for Sunday night. WR Blair White will play for Collie while Donald Brown will carry the load at RB. Reggie Wayne(knee) will play even though he is currently listed as questionable.

49ers TE Vernon Davis(ankle) is ready to go after a good week of practice. The ankle has been bothering him for weeks now it appears and shouldn’t be an issue going forward, start Davis.

Evening Player News 11/2

Randy Moss

According to the Miami Herald’s Jeff Darlington, the Dolphins are giving Randy Moss “serious consideration” leading up to Wednesday’s waiver claim deadline.

Darlington’s source said any organization would be “foolish” not to strongly consider putting in a waiver claim for Moss. Darlington’s colleague Armando Salguero reported similar sentiments on Monday. The Dolphins are interested in bringing aboard a deep threat to stretch the defense, but they’re only 18th in the waiver order.

Percy Harvin

Coach Brad Childress is confident that Percy Harvin (ankle) will “find a way to get on the field this week.” The loss of Moss will affect how defenses cover Harvin as he’s expected to see more double teams and bracket coverage. Either way he’s too talented to sit. He will probably find a way to go this week

Jamarcus Russell and J.P. Losman

Both worked out for the Redskins on Tuesday, why? I have no idea. Russell reported at 286 pounds, which is a load. Boy can Eat!

Sidney Rice

Coach Brad Childress indicated Tuesday that there’s a chance Sidney Rice (hip) could get back on the field for practice this week. I think Childress is just saying this to make the Moss trade look better. I wouldn’t expect Rice back and healthy until Week 12 or 13 at the least.

Desean Jackson

DeSean Jackson met with an independent neurologist on Tuesday, but he didn’t say whether he passed his final concussion test. Were just gonna have to wait and see with Jackson. He says he feels good and the headaches have been minimal, but again with how hard he got hit there is a good chance he misses this weeks game against the Colts

Donald Driver

Donald Driver (quad) told radio station 620 AM WTMJ in Milwaukee that he will not play Sunday against the Cowboys. Driver has been struggling with the quad for the past month and he has been killing fantasy owners. Hang onto Driver because when he’s healthy he is a nice wideout to own.

Craig Davis

Chargers placed WR Craig “Buster” Davis (groin) on injured reserve, ending his season. Chargers lose another wideout. Malcolm Floyd isn’t expected back this week either, so that makes Patrick Crayton a very nice start this week vs Houston.

Vernon Davis

Vernon Davis insisted Tuesday that his ankle is “fine” after it forced him out of Sunday’s game against the Broncos. 49ers have a bye this week so Davis should be fine for Week 10.

Ryan Torain

Although Ryan Torain’s MRI showed no tear in his hamstring, coach Mike Shanahan is still unsure if his starting running back will be available in Week 10.
“The MRI on Torain was good [news],” Shanahan said. “So there wasn’t a tear. Does that mean he’ll be able to go next Monday? I’m hoping so.”  Torain is hurt yet again. He is going to miss this week, Hamstring injuries are something that linger. Keiland Williams will become the starter with Clinton Portis still injured as well, although Portis might be back around week 12.

Logan Mankins

Patriots LG Logan Mankins officially reported to the team Tuesday.

He’ll sign his tender Tuesday and will be eligible to play in Week 9, though it’s not clear if the Patriots plan on him doing so. Mankins is signing sooner than expected, as he didn’t need to report until November 16 in order to accrue another year toward unrestricted free agency. This helps the Patriots pass game and run game,  a great addition to this already solid offense.
Nnamdi Asomugha
Raiders coach Tom Cable said it’s possible RCB Nnamdi Asomugha (ankle) could play in Week 9. Raiders have a huge game with the Chiefs so they need Nnamdi. High ankle sprains are nothing to play with, stay tuned.
Shawn Merriman
Was released today by the Chargers, his days in San Diego are done.

Departure from Fantasy Island (Week 8 Recap and Thoughts)

By: Steve DeAngelo

Note: Be sure to click underlined texts for videos.

Randy Moss is going to be released today after just 4 weeks with the Minnesota Vikings. Moss was fairly quiet in his time in New England until this year when he was traded. I thought he would be a happy camper back in Minnesota. However, Moss complained about the coaches not using the info he gave them for the Patriots game this week. Also we saw Moss giving the half hearted effort on a PI call where he could of finished the play and caught a TD. Instead he gave up and Minnesota failed to score a TD on that drive. Finally, today we heard rumblings about Moss complaining about Food that was ordered from a local restaurant and the Vikings players getting annoyed at him. It seems some of them were in agreement with Childress in wanting to let him go. At the same time, this Vikings team is 2-5 and they need Moss. He simply just creates more offense. Since Moss has arrived, Adrian Peterson, Brett Farve and Percy Harvin’s numbers have all improved. Sidney Rice is not expected back until at least Week 12 or Week 13 maybe longer. The Schedule eases up a bit for the Vikings but basically they just wasted a 3rd round pick on Moss. I can see why they cut him, but at the same time you have to be able to control your players and Brad Childress was simply unable to do that. Childress should be the next to leave, he is not a good head coach. Will see who Snatches up Moss, we will find out Wednesday at 4pm, early favorites are the Seahawks, Rams, Dolphins and Titans. Who will be the next team to take a chance on Randyyyyyyyyyy Moss.

Another Bizzare event occurred this weekend with Mike Shanahan benching Donovan Mcnabb for the final two drives of their game against the Lions. He benched him for Rex Grossman! Grossman, as we all know is a horrific quarterback, this move made absolutely no sense and in my mind was one of the dumbest decisions by a coach since Marty Morhinweg’s decision by electing to kick the ball overtime after winning the coin toss while coaching with the Lions. It wasn’t like Mcnabb was playing terrible. He had 200 yards passing on 17 of 30 with a TD and One pick. He also had 44 yards rushing. Shanhan’s reasoning was almost as dumb as the benching, saying Mcnabb wasn’t fit to run the two-minute offense because he hadn’t done it in 5 weeks and also his cardiovascular condition was a concern. So Rex Grossman who hasn’t started a game in 3 years was more ready to run a 2 minute offense than a QB who hasn’t done it in 5 games?  Grossman came in, got sacked lost the football and Ndamukong Suh picked it up and ran it in for a TD to seal the Lions victory.  Shanahan is a good coach who has two superbowls, but he doesn’t get a pass here. He was simply frustrated that his offense wasn’t clicking the way he thinks it should got angry and made a dumb decision. I could understand if they had a better backup, but Rex Grossman? Shanhahan gets a C’mon man for that moronic move.

The Cowboys are a complete shame. So much talent gone to waste. They simply played an uninspired game this week to Jacksonville as they lost 35-17 at home. Wade Phillips needs to go soon, I guess Jerry will just wait the year out and then make the move, but it’s coming. After such a lackluster effort this week it’s clear Wade Phillips has lost this team and has failed to motivate them.

Emerging

Matthew Stafford

Returning after being out with a shoulder injury since Week 2, Stafford threw for 212 yards and 4 TD’s against Washington. Stafford didn’t play great overall but found the endzone 4 times connecting 3 times with Calvin Johnson Aka Megatron. It was his first game back and had this type of game. Going forward you can expect more yards and multiple TD’s almost every game from Stafford. Throwing to a guy like Calvin Johnson makes him a solid start almost every week. Then he has Nate Burelson, Brandon Pettigrew, Tony Scheffler and Jahvid Best so it’s not only Johnson helping out Stafford.

LeGarrette Blount

I picked up Blount about 4 weeks ago and waited and waited and waited, but had to release him after he continued to do nothing. However last week we saw the sign that good things could be coming when he went for 67 yards on 11 carries. Well this week the former Oregon Duck had a breakout game running for 120 yards on 22 carries for two Td’s. It’s pretty clear he has taken the job from Cadillac Williams and Earnest Graham and is the most talented back on the team. However keep in mind this was against Arizona and their 29th ranked Run D. However,  this is an emerging offense with Josh Freeman playing well and Mike Williams having a terrific rookie season. Blount should be a low-end #2 back going forward. He is talented just don’t expect many games like this.

Jacob Tamme

It’s simple Peyton Manning makes everyone look better. As long as you can run a route and have the ability to catch and get open he will get you the ball. Losing Dallas Clark was big, but Tamme is similar to Clark in that he runs good routes and has good speed for a TE. Last night Tamme finished with 6 catches for 64 yards and a TD. Manning likes to get the ball to his Tight End so Tamme should remain a factor every week. He could finish the year as a top 7 Tight end.

Fading

Cedric Benson

Well he’s been faded all year pretty much, but Benson just simply isn’t getting it done. The Bengals have turned into more of a pass first team, but Benson is still getting plenty of carries, he’s just not producing. He has only one 100 yard game all year vs the Pitiful Tampa Bay Run D and hasn’t scored since week 3. Again he is getting the carries with 40 of them the last two weeks. Take out the game for TB and he is only averaging 3.3 YPC.  It’s not looking good for Benson with his fantasy playoff matchups against Pittsburgh, Cleveland and San Diego. If you can trade him do it , if not hang on and just hope that he can start to find the endzone because the yards will be lacking.

Wes Welker

Welker is really struggling this year. Coming back from his ACL injury he just doesn’t look the same. He’s not as explosive. He doesn’t get out of his breaks as quick as he used to and doesn’t break tackles and make people miss as often either. It’s clear the injury has affected him. Also it doesn’t help that Randy Moss is gone to open up things for him. Welker hasn’t had a game over 75 yards all year and hasn’t scored since week 2. With Moss gone teams are starting bracket him more often. Also with Moss gone, Aaron Hernandez and Deion Branch have kind of taken his role a bit. I wouldn’t count out Welker yet, but the signs are there. He may have a couple big games ahead, but the consistency we saw from him in the past is most likely not to return, at least for this year.

Breakout

Jamal Charles

Charles finally broke out this week with 248 total yards. I have been waiting for this game the whole season and Charles finally got it. The guy averaged 8 yards per carry on Sunday and is now averaging 6.5 yards per carry. The only thing that is holding Charles back is the TD’s, he only has 3 of them. Charles is an absolute beast. I have been trying to trade for him all year but to no avail, if you landed him congrats. If not, keep trying especially in keeper leagues, he’s a top 5 back in this league in terms of talent.

Eating Crow

Darren Mcfadden

When Mcfadden was drafted I doubted him because of his skinny legs, and lack of agility. Two years in Mcfadden was looking like a bust, going down easy, not making defenders miss and often getting injured. While injuries remain a concern, this year Mcfadden is a completely different player. He is running with power and even his agility has improved. He looks like one of the best backs in the league right now. Mcfadden is averging 5.5 yards per carry, and has 5 games with over 125 total yards to go with 6 TD’s. As long as he stays healthy Mcfadden is going to produce every single week. He really worked hard in the off-season and it has shown.

Key Injuries from Week 8

Kenny Britt (Hamstring)

Let’s see owners including myself sit Britt in week 7 he explodes, and are anxious to get him in lineups for week 8. On Titans first drive of the game Young throws a bomb to a wide open Britt, but he pulls up lame with a hamstring injury. That’s fantasy football for ya. It looks like Britt is going to be out for at least a couple of weeks. It’s good Titans have a bye this week, but don’t expect him back until week 12 at least.

Ryan Torain (Hamstring)

Torain is hurt once again with a pulled hammy, there is no tear, but you can expect him to miss at least a week or two. This is not an easy injury to come back from see Darelle Revis, Knowshon Moreno this year.

Vernon Davis (Ankle)

Davis left early in this one, hurting many fantasy owners not just himself. No word on his status yet, but 49ers have a bye in week 9.

Vince Young (Ankle)

Young re-aggravated his ankle injury and left in the 2nd half against the Chargers after having a pretty good game. Titans have a bye week as well so Young has a good chance at returning in Week 10.

Donald Driver (Quad)

You can put Driver in the fading category as well, as he has been held without a catch two straight weeks now and has been silent for the last month. Driver left this one early as he was playing with this quad injury. Stay tuned, but you should have other options available.

Percy Harvin (Ankle)

Harvin is hurt again and it doesn’t help now that Randy Moss is gone. If he plays this week and I expect he will he has a nice matchup vs the Cardinals.

Week 5 Fantasy Matchups (Breakdown of 4 O’clocks + Sunday and Monday Night Games)

By: Steve DeAngelo   Follow me at Twitter.com/FantasySavvy

Email @ SteveDeAngelo@gmail.com

New Orleans (3-1) @ Arizona (2-2) 4:05

The Saints haven’t exactly been playing great football as they barely snuck by the 49ers and Carolina the last two weeks, but they still are finding ways to win and that’s what separates the good teams from the bad. Drew Brees has been his usual beast self with 1100 yards already and 7 TD’s. Without Reggie Bush (prob not back til week 7 the earliest) Lance Moore and Jeremy Shockey have taken on bigger roles. Moore has TD’s in back to back weeks and could take over the #1 spot at Wideout while Bush is out, Brees loves to throw to him. Obviously he has a nice matchup this week against Arizona (22nd in pass defense). Jeremy Shockey has also seen in increase in touches with 14 catches and 140 yards and TD in the last 2 weeks. Marques Colston should get it going this week against Arizona after a slow start to the season being held under 200 yards receiving with 0 td’s thru 4 games.

Pierre Thomas has been ruled OUT for the 2nd str8 week with his ankle injury so that means Chris Ivory and Ladell Betts will share the load. Ivory is the better runner but Betts will play as well because he is the more savvy pass blocker and is a better option in PPR leagues. Both are fairly solid flex plays this week because of the matchup.

Again, as I’ve stated before, I really don’t know what Ken Whisenhunt was thinking when he gave Derek Anderson the starting QB job this year. I hope he realizes now that cutting Leinart was a mistake, he at least deserved a chance. Anyway, undrafted rookie from BYU, Max Hall takes over this week and has some potential and is probably better than the extremely inaccurate Derek Anderson, but don’t expect much, he shouldn’t sniff lineups. Although Larry Fitzgerald has been targeted a whopping 46 times he only has 19 catches. That really shows you how inaccurate Derek Anderson is. Fitz is 3rd in the league in targets behind Terrell Owens and Roddy White. Fitzgerald will continue to be targeted at a high rate because he’s really the only option right now especially with Breaston and Early Doucet out but just won’t be very reliable playing with Hall.

With a Rookie QB, look for Whisenhunt to go back to his Steeler days and put more emphasis on the run. The Saints run d is 26th worst in the league and they are really having a tough time stopping the run. Look for the Cards to try to keep possession of the ball and out of Drew Brees hands with plenty of running early in the game. They could be getting blown out in the 2nd half which will force Arizona to pass but remember the Saints have been barely been squeezing by teams. I expect Beanie Wells to run effectively and get about 15-20 carries in this game. I think he’s a solid #2 back this week while Tim Hightower is a decent flex only in PPR leagues.

Tennessee (2-2) @ Dallas (1-2) 4:15

Chris Johnson is on pace for just under 400 carries right now and that is just way too many carries. They are going to have to really start giving Vince Young more work starting this week against Dallas. Watching Johnson last week against Denver he really just looked overworked and tired. At the end of the game the Titans kept the ball out of Young’s hands and repeatedly gave it Johnson but it didn’t work as he was continuously getting stuffed. Johnson has slowed down a bit so far from last year, but he has faced the two best defenses statistically against the run in Pittsburgh and Denver. He has 4 TD’s with 354 yards rushing in 4 games which is good but obviously we expected more from him. Going forward, the Titans are going to have to rely on Vince more often to keep people out of the box for Johnson and also to keep him fresh so he can be effective the whole season. The way they are using him now he is going to run out of gas, I saw it last week, CJ needs a break right now…………….

With that I expect the Titans to throw a little bit more this week. Currently Vince Young is 2nd to last in passing attempts to only Jimmy Claussen who only has 2 less attempts than Vince despite only starting two games this year. That shows you right there how little they are relying on Vince. Fischer needs to show more trust in Young, because he can get it done. But also Young really needs to start using his feet more. He seems so content on staying in that pocket, it’s time for him to go back to being the duel playmaker he used to be. Vince has gotten more accurate over the years and has made better decisions although from time to time he does make that questionable throw. That said, Vince isn’t a great option this week but I do expect him to go over 30 attempts for the first time all year. I also expect him to have over 200 yards passing for the first time this season.

Justin Gage is out this week so it’s time for Kenny Britt to step up. The Bayonne, NJ native and Rutgers product is a nice target at 6’3 especially in the redzone where Vince has found him back to back weeks. Look for Britt to get a ton of targets this week although it’s not gonna be easy producing vs two solid corners in Terrance Newman and Mike Jenkins. Still, Britt is a decent WR3 this week. Stay away from all other Titans Wideouts.

Jerry Jones vowed to get Felix Jones more involved going forward so that should start this week. To date, Felix is only averaging about 9 touches per game and only has 4 catches all year. He needs more receptions, they have to get the ball in his hands more often because he is a playmaker. It does appear that Jones has bulked up a bit in the offseason and looks a step slower but still he should be Ok as long as he gets the ball. Romo obviously is a must start. I think Jones is a solid flex this week.

Marion Barber is not running with the same force and burst he used to run with and a lot of experts including Michael Lombardi from the NFL Network think he is hurting the team. I agree somewhat, in that he’s taking touches away from Tashard Choice who is arguably the better runner at this point. However, Barber will remain the goal line back and will most likely continue to lead the team in carries. He’s a decent flex but I like Jones better this week. Tashard Choice is a guy you should be stashing just in case there is an injury and he gets a bigger workload. He will produce when/If he gets a chance.

The Titans secondary started out well but has cooled letting up back to back 300 yard passers the last two weeks. Romo should fare well and look for Miles Austin to get back on track after his 2 catch effort @ Houston in week 3. Coming off the bye week, Dez Bryant is rested and healthy and I look for him to start taking a bigger role in this offense. He is due for a couple big games soon and I think he will have a fairly good game. Get him in your lineups. Don’t get overly excited about Roy Williams big game against Houston in week 3, their secondary is brutal although Roy was making some nice moves and looked better than he has. Still I don’t trust him overall but he’s a decent flex this week. Look for Roy to finish with around 40 yards and a possible score. Jason Witten has lost a step over the years and is just not effective as he once was. In PPR leagues he’s still a good option but in Standard leagues he’s not the option he once was because he never scores anymore and even his yardage is down.

San Diego (2-2) @ Oakland (1-3) 4:15

No Vincent Jackson, no problem for Phillip Rivers as he has been red-hot this year already with 1300 yards passing and 9 TD’s. The guy just is just a gamer and an extremely good quarterback. Antonio Gates has been absolutely dominating as he’s taken on a bigger role with the absence of Jackson. Right now Gates in on pace for 24 TD’s. He won’t get there but 15 TD’s is very likely from the big fella. He is no doubt about it the #1 Tight End in Fantasy Football and the most talented Tight End in the NFL. Right now Malcolm Floyd is the only  option at Wideout that can be relied upon. Floyd is turning into Rivers 2nd favorite target behind Gates as he beat out Ledgedu Naanee who he was battling early. Floyd is not a great option this week against Ashmoushahahgaaa and the Raiders 3rd ranked Pass D so leave him on your bench. Naanee meanwhile has absolutely disappeared of late with only 5 catches for 50 yards the last two weeks. Patrick Crayton, Naanee and Craig Davis are probably going to rotate in effectiveness each week so all of them are risky options. Naanee should have some decent games here and there so in deeper leagues you can keep him if you wish.

The weakness of the Raiders is their Run D (31st in the NFL) so I expect a lot of running this week from the Chargers. They have also beaten the Raiders 13 times in a row by an average of 14 points so it’s very likely the Chargers could have a big lead in the 2nd half and just run the ball to kill the clock. Either way Ryan Matthews and Mike Tolbert are very solid options this week. Matthews is a #2 and Tolbert is a nice flex. Matthews should get the majority of the carries but Tolbert has earned a role in this offense because he was very effective while Matthews was out. Darren Sproles is not an option as of now.

Daaaaa Raiders! Bruce Gradkowski has stepped in for Jason Campbell and played fairly well throwing for 695 yards and 4 TD’s in three games. Louis Murphy should be good to go this week after barely playing last week with a bruised Clavicle. Still neither Gradkowski or Murphy are good options this week against the San Diego pass defense that is currently 4th in the NFL.

Tight End Zach Miller had a monster game last week vs Houston and their horrific pass D with 11 catches for 122 yards and a TD as Gradkowski consistently found him open. Before that in Week 3 against Arizona he went for 64 yards and a TD as well. But look at those two matchups, two of the worst secondaries in the league so don’t expect Miller to go crazy this week. Miller is talented and has developed a nice chemistry with Gradkowski but don’t expect him to put up huge numbers this week and going forward as the schedule gets a lot harder. Look for Miller to finish with around 4-6 catches with about 40 yards this week and for the remainder of the year those are probably the type of numbers he will put up.

If you had been reading my columns, I have been recommending selling high on Darren Mcfadden for the past couple weeks because his schedule had been so Swiss cheese and has never been a good bet to stay healthy. Well Mcfadden pulled up lame last week and is OUT for Sunday’s game. To be fair however, Mcfadden did look more agile than he has ever been and was playing very well while getting a big workload. Mcfadden has always been a slow healer and Hamstrings are injuries that can linger an easily be re-aggravated so if you can still move Mcfadden then do so. With all that Said, Michael Bush becomes fantasy relevant again. Look for Bush to get a big workload this week with around 20 carries. San Diego’s run D is currently 7th in the league but that is probably a little too high for them. Bush should find some holes and is a solid flex play this week. I’m not crazy about owning either Bush or Mcfadden going forward because both are injury prone and even if healthy they will hurt each other’s workload. Plus they play for the Raiders. Go and trade both of em.

Philly (2-2) @ San Fran (0-4) Sunday Night 8:30

Even though the 49ers are 0-4 they can still win the NFC West division that consists of the lowly  2-2 Arizona Caridnals and rookie QB Max Hall, the Seattle Seahawks and grandpa Matt Hasselback and the St. Louis Rams with Rookie Sam Bradford. Personally I think the 49ers will come back and win this division. It starts this week vs the Michael Vickless Eagles where I believe they get the Win. Remember the 49ers should have beat Atlanta last week on the road if it wasn’t for Nate Clements bonehead mistake and almost beat the Super Bowl champs in Week 2.

Alex Smith continues to be inconsistent and is not a good fantasy option but he definitely plays better at home. I think the 49ers will finally get Michael Crabtree more involved this Sunday although I am only expecting about 60 yards receiving but that would still be a season high for Crabtree. Be patient with Crabtree he will get it going eventually. Vernon Davis scored last week but still his yards and TD’s have been down this year (209 Yards 1 TD). Besides Antonio Gates he’s prob the most talented Tight End in the league. You have to keep him in your lineup every week because he could explode at anytime. The Eagles secondary has been pretty stingy so far (7th overall) but I expect the Niners to play inspired football and be able to do some things through the air. Also CB Asante Samuel has been ruled out due to a concussion so that is huge for the 49ers. I think Vernon could have a monster game this week, just a feeling if it’s not him it will be Crabtree or maybe a combination of both. Right now Frank Gore is the leading wideout on the 49ers so you can bet that the 49ers will want to change that.

Frank Gore has been one of the best backs in PPR leagues so far this year. Currently he has 29 catches for 269 yards and a TD and is the leading receiver yardage wise on the 49ers right now. As I mentioned look for that to change over the course of the year but Gore will remain a factor in the passing game. Look for Gore to be the focal point of the 49ers gameplan as the 49ers will look to attack the Eagles and their 27th ranked Run D. I think Gore goes over 150 total yards and gets in the endzone at least once. His running is going to open up things in the passing game and that is why I expect Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree to both enjoy nice games.

I don’t think Kevin Kolb is a good quarterback. He checks down way too often and when he goes deep he has been inaccurate. I wouldn’t start him this week even though the 49ers are 20th against the pass. Because of Kolb’s love for checking down and ineptness at throwing the deep ball he really hurts DeSean Jackson’s and Jeremy Maclin’s value. Look for the Eagles to try to run a lot of drag routes this week and let both Maclin and Jackson create. Still I’m not crazy about either this week and would actually seek other options if you have them. Brent Celek will probably benefit because of the Kolb. He’s a decent start at Tight end. Lesean Mcoy had 12 catches last week because of Kolb. Mcoy has been cleared to play this week with a broken rib and is a safe start but only in PPR leagues. I really think the 49ers are going to play a heck of a defensive game led by Patrick Willis and shut down this eagles offense.

Minnesota (1-2) @ NYJ (2-2) MNF 8:30

This is easily the best and most interesting game of the week as Brett Favre returns to NY and brings Randy Moss along with him. Obviously as we have all heard by now the Vikings acquired Randy Moss and a 7th round pick on Wednesday morning from the Patriots in exchange for a 4th round pick. Darrelle Revis will play this week and he continues to bash Moss now saying that he let up in Week 2. However, the last time these two faced Moss got the best of Revis as he caught that impressive one-handed TD and Revis pulled his hammy. So Revis should be keeping his mouth shut.

Also we’ve all probably heard about Brett Favre and is supposed flirtation episodes with various women from the NY jets organization including Favre supposedly sending inappropriate pictures of his private parts. Who knows how this all effects Favre and how true all of it is but it’s interesting all this drops the week he returns to NY.

From a Fantasy perspective Favre is a decent start this week coming of a bye. He should be more in rhythm with Percy Harvin and he will continue to hit Vishante Shiancoe who looks like he’s going to play Monday night. Right now the Jets are 22nd overall in pass defense but remember that’s without Revis for 2 games. The Jets crazy blitz packages should confuse the Vikings offensive line who haven’t been protecting Favre that well this year and the Jets will get some pressure. Overall though, I expect Farve to go over the 200 yard mark and throw a couple of TD’s. Antonio Cromartie did a good job on Moss in week 2 after Revis went out so it will be interesting to see if the Jets keep him on Moss and line Revis up with Harvin.

I am suggesting starting Randy Moss and Percy Harvin because they are both simply too talented to sit. Plus Revis still is getting his flow back so he won’t fully be himself although he will impress. Also start Shiancoe this week because right now he and Favre have the best chemistry in the passing game.

Adrian Peterson goes up against a tough Jets Run D that’s ranked 4th in the league and only letting up 74 yards a game. Peterson I think could have over 100 total yards and I think he sees the endzone at least once. Peterson looks like he could take the reins back as the #1 fantasy back from Chris Johnson this season as Johnson seems like he’s wearing down just a tad. Obviously Johnson is still a beast but Peterson is better equipped to take the role of a workhorse because of his physical stature.

Mark Sanchez is red-hot right now as he is yet to throw an INT and has 8 TD’s. I think he continues to play solid this week against Minnesota and continues to hit Dustin Keller who also has been great this year with 5 TD’s this season. Keller right now is probably the 3rd best  fantasy tight end in the league behind Gates and Dallas Clark. Returning this week is Santonio Holmes who is back from his 4 week suspension. With Sanchez’ accuracy Holmes will be very effective on drags routes and also is a nice vertical threat for the Sanchize. I expect Holmes to get right in the mix and have a pretty productive opening game. Get him in your lineups as a flex play. Braylon Edwards value takes a hit with the return of Holmes but he will still remain a goal line threat and is a good bet to score almost every week. He’s a decent flex play.

Ladainian Tomlinson had a huge game last week with some runs that brought us back in time to the Old dayz when L.T. was a Charger. As long as he stays healthy L.T. is going to be in for a nice year running behind that solid Jets offensive line led by Nick Mangold. Obviously we all know Minnesota can stop the run with big Pat Williams in the middle plugging holes. Still have to get L.T. in your lineups however as he could find the endzone and I think he goes for about 60-80 total yards. Shonn Greene on the other hand I would bench this week. L.T. will dominate the carries and he will get the goal line looks. Greene might see 10-13 carries but I don’t think he will have much success. Use other options.

10/6 Player News

Well everyone, the Randy Moss to Minnesota Vikings deal is now complete. Percy Harvin i think as well as Adrian Peterson get a big boost with this move. TE Visanthe Shiancoe may take the biggest hit, as he has been the main downfield and red zone threat to Favre. Go out and grab Brandon Tate and Julian Edelman in New England, as their value will see a big boost going forward.

The Bills have named Fred Jackson the starting RB with the trade of Marshawn Lynch on Tuesday. Jackson will not be the every down, workhouse back as C.J. Spiller will work into the mix as well, but both guys will be decent flex plays the rest of the season.

Browns QB Jake Delhomme is expected to take the majority of first team reps in practice today, and is slated to start Sunday against the Falcons. I believe the only real winner that will come out of this, is reciever Mohammed Massaquoi, who lost all value with Seneca Wallace under center. I, however, stand by my statement that Wallace gives the team the best overall chance to win.

Ravens Coach John Harbaugh said, he doesn’t expect to see any new injury issues going into week 5. This means Ray Rice looks to be fully healthy from that knee contusion and is a must start against Denver Sunday. If a Ray Rice owner in your league is down on him, there really makes no better buy low candidate than Rice at this point, so throw out and offer, trust me you won’t regret it. SOURCE: Baltimore Sun

Saints RB Pierre Thomas is still dealing with an ankle injury and did not participate in practice Wednesday. His status for week 5 in Arizona is still up in the air. RB’s Chris Ivory and Ladell Betts would once again split carries should Thomas be unavailable. SOURCE: Jeff Duncan on Twitter

Colts beat writer Phil Wilson on Twitter believes that receiver Pierre Garcon (hamstring) will return to the starting lineup this week at home against the undefeated Chiefs. Garcon hasn’t played since week 1 and could have a big game in his return. Nobody besides Blair White stands to lose any value with Garcon returning, as Peyton Manning and the Colts lean on the pass so very often.

UPDATE: Pierre Garcon returned to a full practice today and looks like he’ll finally be back in the lineup Sunday. RB Donald Brown(hamstring) and WR’s Austin Collie(foot) and Reggie Wayne(knee) missed practice today. It doesn’t appear Brown will play again this week, meaning Joseph Addai will get a full workload. Collie was on the injury report last week as well with the foot injury and played, so he should be good to go. Reggie Wayne sat out today basically as a precaution and should be able to start Sunday. SOURCE: Phillip B. Wilson on Twitter

As every expected, Eagles QB Kevin Kolb took all the first team snaps in practice today and is expected to start Sunday in San Francisco. Kolb is a decent bye week filler this week if your a Vick, Big Ben, Tom Brady owner. SOURCE: Adam Caplan on Twitter

LeSean McCoy, as expected was held out of Eagles practice as well today with a fractured rib. Head Coach Andy Reid said McCoy is “making progress” but it he will probably not practice this week and Mike Bell is expected to get the start.

Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams sat out practice today with an undisclosed illness. He probably isn’t a risk to miss Sunday’s game against the Bears, but if he were to sit Sunday, Jonathan Stewart gets a big boost and becomes a must start. Check back for updates. SOURCE: Darin Gantt on Twitter

Lions TE Tony Scheffler did not practice today, the reason is not yet known as he didn’t appear to be injured during Sunday’s loss to Green Bay. Check back later in the week for an update.

Lions RB Jahvid Best(turf toe) practiced today and appears to be fully recovered from that injury. He should be a go Sunday against the Rams. QB Matthew Stafford did not participate in Wednesday’s practice and one would assume Shaun Hill will draw another start against the Rams. SOURCE: Tom Kowalski on Twitter

Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw(ankle) only went through the pre practice walkthrough Wednesday and his ankle was taped and wrapped. His status for Sunday’s matchup in Houston is still up in the air. Brandon Jacobs would get the start if Bradshaw couldn’t go in a tough matchup with the stingy Texans run defense who has yet to allow a RB to top 55 yards on the round. SOURCE: Mike Garafolo on Twitter UPDATE: Bradshaw has now declared himself 100% healthy after going through limited drills today. You can’t always go by what the player says, but its a positive sign for him going into this weekends matchup in Houston.

Jets CB Darrelle Revis(hamstring) practiced today and appears to be a go for Sunday’s matchup at home against the Vikings and newly acquired Randy Moss. Moss’ one handed touchdown catch in the end zone as a Patriot in Week 2 was the play Revis previously reaggravated that injury. SOURCE: Rich Cimini on Twitter

Lindsay Jones on Twitter reports that RB Knowshon Moreno is “definitely not close to full strength.” That is not a good sign for the Broncos or Moreno owners as Kyle Orton was their leading rusher last week in Tennessee with 11 yards.

The Cardinals have announced, undrafted rookie QB Max Hall will get the start this Sunday against the Saints. This comes as no shocker with Derek Anderson playing so poorly thus far. Keep an eye on Hall’s progress in the coming weeks as he could end up being a solid matchup play or start in 2QB leagues. Keeper and dynasty owners want to run out and grab him immediately. Its a good matchup this week for his first start as the Saints pass defense hasn’t been that great so far and also for the simple fact that they will probably be playing from behind with that putrid defense of theirs. SOURCE: Kent Somers on Twitter

Redskin QB Donavan McNabb indicated Wednesday that his tight quad muscle will not limit him in practice this week and will start Sunday at home against the Packers. McNabb makes a decent matchup play this week against a Packer team that allowed Shaun Hill to throw for 331 yards on them last week. The Skin’s also plan to sign RB Keiland Williams off the practice squad prior to Sunday’s game  and he will be the #2 RB Sunday with Clinton Portis (Groin) being out. Williams will back up Ryan Torain and could see some time on 3rd down and passing situations and don’t be surprised if Torain struggles early or turns the ball over that Williams see the bulk of the carries the rest of the game with Coach Shanahan’s quick trigger. SOURCE: Rich Campbell on Twitter

UPDATE: Clinton Portis is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a third degree left groin seperation. Wow that sounds nasty, Ryan Torain now becomes a solid RB2 going forward and with his injury history as well, Keiland Williams makes a nice roster stash as well. SOURCE: Washington Post

Randy Moss returning to the Vikings? (Potential Fantasy Impact)

Reports are flying everywhere that the Pats are looking to Move Randy Moss in exchange for a possible 3rd round pick to the Vikings.

Moss had 0 catches last night and really hasn’t been a yardage machine this year although he’s been good in the TD department. But the fact is Moss is disgruntled. Jay Glazer reported Moss asked Belicheck for a trade after week 1.

I think this deal goes down maybe not tonight but sometime this week. It’s clear Moss wants out and the Pats have never been shy about letting go of their big names in the past (Richard Seymour, Lawyer Milloy).

Obviously Favre has always wanted Moss dating back to his days as a Packer and the Vikings clearly need help in the Wide Receiver department. Right now it looks the deal is really going to come down to what kind of contract the Vikings give Moss since Randy is in his last year of his current contract.

Make sure to get Brandon Tate in your waiver pickups this week and then Julian Edelman who will now see a bigger role. I think Tate could prove to be a nice addition to your squad because he is extremely talented and explosive as we saw last night with his kickoff return and dating back to his days at North Carolina playing alongside Hakeem Nicks. Also put a bid in for Rob Gronkowski as he is sure to see more playing time.

From a Vikings standpoint it’s probably a little too late to acquire Brett Favre but if you can go do it now!

I look for this deal to go down by Thursday the latest.

UPDATE: The Boston Herald is now reporting that “things are moving quickly” in the Randy Moss trade to Vikings trade and it appears Moss will be traded sometime Wednesday according to a very trustworthy, yet unknown league source. We will continue to update you throughout the day on the wheelings and dealings on the Randy Moss front as well as the rest of the NFL player news.

Start Em’ Sit Em’ Week 2

By Mike Cannici

Start Em’/Sit Em’ for Week 2

This is a list of guys who obviously aren’t no brainer, every week starters. These are guys on the cusp, who have the talent to crack your starting lineup but just aren’t there yet. This week there are a few exceptions, but for the most part that is who this article will be focused on. Steve and I will both be contributing to this article weekly so you can get a taste for both our opinions and knowledge. At the end of the day though, its ultimately your team. As I always say when all else fails, go with your gut and that’s what I try to do because your gut is almost never wrong.

START

QB’s

Michael Vick PHI vs. Detroit- Kolb is out with a concussion and Vick is a must play vs. the weak Lions secondary. The Lions were pretty solid against the run last week against the Bears but gave up almost 400 yards passing to Jay Cutler. Vick won’t throw for 400 yards but 300 total(rushing/passing) yards and 2 scores is definitely in the cards. Start Vick with confidence this week.

Matt Ryan ATL vs. Arizona- Ryan struggled last week, but take that with a grain of salt since it was against the Steelers. Rookie Sam Bradford threw for 252 yards against that Cardinal secondary. Matt Ryan and Roddy White should be in for big days especially at home in the dome.

RB’s

Jonathan Stewart Car vs. TB- Stewart was limited week 1, more or less because he didn’t play a single snap in preseason and just wasn’t fully ready. I think things get back to normal this week during the Panthers home opener and Stewart and DeAngelo Williams lean back towards a split in touches. Stewart and Williams have coexisted together for two seasons now and been solid fantasy starters. This should be the last week you see him in this column because he’s in for a big day along with his counterpart.

Brandon Jacobs Giants vs. Indy- Jacobs is a guy who is probably on the bench in most leagues, but if you have a questionable #2 or flex, you may want to start him this week against the terrible run defense of the Colts. Bob Sanders is once again done for the year with an injury and without him there run defense is putrid. Jacobs should see 70 yards and a TD this week so plug him in.

Michael Bush/Darren McFadden OAK vs STL- Bush practiced Wednesday fully and once again expected to play. McFadden looked very good last week against the Titans even though I didn’t foresee that happening but you can’t always be right in this business. They are both excellent plays this week, with McFadden being the better PPR play and Bush the better standard scoring/TD heavy play.

WR’s

Mike Williams TB vs. Car- Williams had a solid rookie performance that saw 9 targets while catching 5 of them for 30 yards a TD. Williams seems to be QB Josh Freeman’s go to guy and with what we saw Hakeem Nicks do last week against Carolina, Williams could be in for a big day as well. After Carolina’s secondary ruined my sit em’ for Nicks, I can’t recommend sitting another receiver against them, I just can’t. Williams is a solid #3WR this week or flex.

Mohammad Massaquoi CLE vs. KC- Massaquoi had a decent week 1 performance, with 6 targets along with 2 catches for 46 yards and TD. It looks like Seneca Wallace will be the QB this week and MM looks like he should see similar targets, hopefully catching a few more them this time. He is the go to receiver in Cleveland and could have a good game. The Chiefs defense was good last Monday night; they did allow Rivers to throw for 298 yards. Wallace is by no means Phillip Rivers, but does have a good arm and is able to move around the pocket to find the open man. MM as I’ll call Massaquoi from now on is a solid flex play this week.

Legedu Naanee SD vs. Jax- Naanee had a very solid week with 9 targets. He caught 5 of those for 110yds and a score.  Now some say that score was a fluke, but hey all that matters in fantasy is getting yards and the scores so no worries, that could happen again too or against anybody. Naanee should have another big week at home against the jaguars corner’s after they allowed Kyle Orton to throw for 295 yards. Naanee is one my breakout players this year and should be inserted into your lineup this week if you missed the boat last.

SIT

QB’s

Chad Henne MIA vs. Minn- The Vikings are back home and are not too happy about the close loss against New Orleans to open the season. It’s not that I trust the Viking defensive backfield as much as I trust Jared Allen and the Williams wall to come after Henne constantly. If you own Henne in a committee, start the other guy because this will not be Henne’s week, especially the way he performed against a much lesser opponent in the Bills week 1.

Sam Bradford STL vs. Oak- The rookie looked pretty good against the Cards in week 1, but is going into a different atmosphere called the Oakland Coliseum this week. The raiders are coming off a shellacking in Tennessee, but they were run on, not passed on. Bradford is going to be a very good QB in this league for a long time, but if you own him, you don’t want him in your lineup regularly just yet. He still has some growing pains to endure, but dynasty leaguers hold on to this guy for obvious reasons.

RB’s

CJ Spiller BUF vs. GB- This young man has a load of talent, but if you have another viable option, bench Spiller this week against GB. In a PPR league you may want to keep him active, as they should be behind early and often and Edwards may use him as a check down. Standard leaguers should leave him on their bench this week at Green Bay who has a very good run defense. Spiller, like Bradford will be a very good player in this league, but the key to fantasy is to know when to start them and know when to sit them, and folks, this is one of those weeks.

Beanie Wells AZ vs. ATL- Wells is expected to play this week, but is not a good start vs. the Falcons run defense. Yes they allowed 120 yards to Rashard Mendenhall but 50 of those were in overtime on one play. Wells isn’t completely healthy yet and is not a recommended start. Keep him on your bench for at least one more week if possible.

Fred Taylor NE vs. NYJ- Taylor is not a guy who is owned in a lot of leagues, and really shouldn’t be trusted this week against the Jets defense. The Jets, without DT Kris Jenkins for most of the game, and now for the year shut down one of the top backs in the league in Ray Rice.  Fred Taylor will do his best to find some wholes but doubt he’ll find any. As I said, you won’t find him on many rosters, but I do own him in two leagues, because he is STARTING RB in the NFL. However, you won’t find him in any of my starting lineups this week. Don’t drop him if you’re an owner, but leave him riding the bench week 2.

WR’s

Randy Moss NE vs. NYJ- Your eyes aren’t deceiving you and this isn’t the Randy Moss from NFL network, the real Moss I’m talking about. With all this back and forth smack talk between Moss and Revis, I don’t foresee the same thing that happened last week where Revis isn’t blanketing the opponents best receiver. There are reports that Revis is dealing with a little hamstring discomfort, so obviously if he was to not play, Moss goes into lineups immediately. As of now though I’m not reading too much into it. Last year in two contests against New York, Moss finished with 9 catches for 58 yards and a TD. That TD however didn’t come with Revis on Moss. The Jets have already said that Revis will follow Moss all day and I’m telling you, you should have another option this week. He is one of the 5 best WR’s in the game, but the way Revis plays, Moss won’t have that kind of day this coming Sunday. BENCH HIM!!!!

Mike Williams SEA vs. Den- Both Mike Williams are in this article, but this is not the one you want to start this week. Last week he had a solid game, (4catches 64 yards) but is now dealing with a thigh injury, and better yet, if he were to play, he’d be matched up against Champ Bailey. Any doubters in Champ Bailey look how many yards his receiver Mike Sims-Walker had last week, ZERO. Make sure you bench the right Mike Williams, because I don’t want to hear it Monday morning.

TJ Houshmanzadeh BAL vs. Cin- Housh saw just 4 targets in his debut against the Jets, and I don’t see that increasing much just yet. Cincy regardless of what happened last week, is very solid against the pass. The one thing he may have working in his favor however, is that this game is against his old team so he may come out trying to prove something. This is a dicey one, but if you have better options wait an extra week before starting TJ.

Any other questions or issues you are having with your team don’t hesitate to email us @ mtcannici@gmail.com or stevedeangelo@gmail.com and we’ll help you out with all your lineup decisions.
