FantasySavvy 2012: Week 9, Fantasy Five

By: Kevin Lewis   * rankings will be released late tonight.

Pittsburgh @ New York Giants

-Ahmad Bradshaw is questionable for the game as his foot is acting up again. If you have Andre Brown, be prepared to start him.

-Hakeem Nicks has been largely a disappointment this year. I expect him to have a good game against a spotty Steeler secondary though. On a side note, it has the feel of a bit of a “lost” year for him. On one end, his schedule gets a bit softer, but on the other end he’s been banged up all year. I’d wait for another breakout game then try and move him.

- Victor Cruz will rebound with a good game as he doesn’t have to see the Cowboys secondary. Nobody in that secondary can hang with him. The Steelers have the #1 rated pass defense but that is misleading because they haven’t really played anyone. And when they did, Peyton Manning shredded them. Don’t shy away from either Giant WR this week. They will get theirs.

-The Steeler backfield is in shambles with injuries and such but Issac Redman is the best of the options. Start Redman this week if you have no alternatives.

Arizona @ Green Bay

-While Larod Stephens Howling had a rough game against a great 49er defense this past week, the going should get a little smoother this week. He also provides in the passing game, and given the state of the Cardinals offensive line, that should provide value. I wouldn’t be completely confident in starting him because the Cardinals entire offense is sketchy but I wouldn’t drop him either. Keep an eye on him.

-Larry Fitzgerald has been up and down all year (product of shoddy QB play. No surprises here). I’d start him pretty confidently this week though. Not that John Skelton will ever inspire confidence in anyone, but Green Bay’s secondary isn’t good, and the Cardinals may be trailing for a good portion of the game. As bad as Skelton is, he should be able to find Fitzgerald enough to make it worth your while.

-Alex Green is getting a lot of touches in the Green Bay offense, but hasn’t stepped up. As a result the Packers are talking about getting James Starks more involved this week. If you can help it, hold on to him and monitor what happens, but make sure to leave him on the bench.

Philadelphia @ New Orleans

-Jeremy Maclin hasn’t done much this season. Albeit, not entirely his own fault, he hasn’t done anything of note. To me, this is his last hurrah. If he can’t do anything against THAT secondary you should cut your losses and be done with it. That or leave him on your bench.

-Darren Sproles is out indefinitely. If you can, try and swing Pierre Thomas. His value takes a bit of a boost with Sproles out. Thomas can do a little of everything, and Mark Ingram has done next to nothing as a pro.

-DeSean Jackson should be a good play this week. It’ll be a challenge for NO to stop McCoy which may limit the Eagles pass attempts but when they do, Desean should be able to spring free.

- I view Michael Vick the same way I view Jeremy Maclin. If he can’t put up big numbers against New Orleans, his fantasy hope is doomed. Unlike Maclin, I have full confidence in him starting this week though. Start him and don’t look back. Potential turnovers be damned.

Baltimore @ Cleveland

-If you are in need of a QB alternative this week, go with Brandon Weeden. He has played well and Baltimore’s defense has been shoddy. He’s probably still on the wire, so if you need someone go with Weeden.

-Josh Gordon has been relatively successful but one wonders how much of that is actually sustainable. That being said, he’ll have plenty of opportunities against a struggling Ravens defense. Start him at your own risk.

-Cleveland’s defense has been “meh”, for lack of a better way to describe it. But they have improved since the return of CB Joe Haden so I’d ease off Joe Flacco and Torrey Smith until they regain the chemistry they had earlier in the season.

-Drop Dennis Pitta if you haven’t already. He stinks like your Uncle Seth’s armpits.

Detroit @ Jacksonville

-Matthew Stafford finally played like an elite QB. You Stafford owners can step off the ledge. Considering how bad Jacksonville’s run defense is, Stafford may have a light day at the office. Expect good numbers from him once again.

-MIkel Leshoure and Rashad Jennings are must starts. Leshoure is a must start because of the caliber of defense he’s playing and Jennings because he’s the every down back in Jacksonville now. Both guys will have productive days.

-I still don’t quite buy Cecil Shorts as an impact receiver especially with Blaine Gabbert as his QB. That defensive line will get after Gabbert so I wouldn’t be tempted by Shorts.

-With Nate Burleson out and defenses consistently playing 2 deep, Titus Young has to step up. He had 9 catches for 90 yards and a TD last week. Young might just hack it as a flex play this week, especially with word now that Calvin Johnson could be limited to third downs.

FantasySavvy 2012: Week 4 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

As seen on FP911.com. Make sure to check there for tons of great information. Also make sure to check our radio show tonight at 12 est directly following the game at blogtalkradio.com/fantasysavvy. Or you can download the show and listen on any apple device or directly from the site.

Week three, and all it’s craziness are in the books. The replacement refs will return for tonight’s game between the Ravens and Browns and maybe they can return some sanity. The regular Refs will return and no doubt will be praised early on even if they make some horrible calls initially, but eventually, just like all refs, they will be bashed and harassed and we may even demand the replacement refs back! While I didn’t think the replacement refs were good, there was definitely a lot overreaction in the media in my opinion. But the good news is, you don’t have replacement writers here at Fp911. My Girlfriend will not be filling in for me this week, nor will my Aunt Cindy be making my selections. No, no, there will be none of that. I am here and would never compromise our product. Paul Greco Dan Stack, Dan Leason, Colin Hager, Chuck Anderson and the rest of the guys are all here and will remain here week to week to provide you with the best Fantasy Football information we possibly can.

You won’t see the obvious names on here, that would be pointless. Maybe occasionally to give you a reminder, but rather we are looking to identify some guys that you may be on the fence with and encourage you to either start or sit them. Matchups will be broken down, stats will be used, some projections will be provided and some “gut” feeling will be mixed in. But when it comes down to the come down, it’s your “gut” you need to roll with.

*Players listed in order of projected effectiveness in the start ‘em category and ineffectiveness in the sit ‘em category.

Quarterbacks

Start ‘Em

Peyton Manning vs Oakland

I’ve been off on Manning for two weeks in a row, but this week I “guarantee” I will be right as he will produce nicely for your fantasy teams. Manning got the job done last week against an extremely tough Texan defense by throwing for 330 yards with two TD’s and has been great at home thus far throwing for nearly 600 yards with 4 TD’s and no INT’s. He stays in Denver this week against Oakland and should have his way against this secondary that is ranked 27th overall in defending Fantasy QB’s.

Joe Flacco vs Cleveland

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens

Cleveland’s secondary is just not the same without Stud CB Joe Haden and it’s showing in the numbers. The last two weeks they’ve been eaten up by Andy Dalton and Ryan Fitzpatrick and as a result are ranked 28th against Fantasy QB’s. Flacco may not have a huge yardage night but expect him to finish with around 250 yards passing with at least 2 TD’s.

Andy Dalton @ Jacksonville

Dalton could be coming into his own this season throwing back to back 300-yard three touchdown games. The matchups have helped against a Joe Haden less Browns secondary and an injury riddled Skins team, but nonetheless he’s producing at a high level. Jacksonville’s secondary hasn’t been bad this year ranked 10th overall against Fantasy QB’s, but I am a believer in Dalton and his weapons. The Bengals should have plenty of possessions with Blaine Gabbert’s ineffectiveness, so look for Dalton to get plenty of chances to score and find the endzone a few times.

Sit ‘Em

Jay Cutler @ Dallas

Cutler has been brutal after his big Week 1 showing, being held under 200 yards twice while throwing just 1 TD with 5 INT’s. Unfortunately for Jay, it does not get much easier against Dallas and their new and improved secondary. Dallas is currently allowing the fewest points to Fantasy QB’s and they will stay atop the charts after facing Cutler.

Jake Locker @ Houston

Locker was terrific against Detroit in Week three throwing for 378 with two TD’s, but the sledding gets rough this week against the Texans. I would not expect him to fare well against this top defense, so I advise you to keep the youngster reserved in this matchup.

Cam Newton @ Atlanta

Let’s hope this is the first and last time we have to put Newton on this list this season, but if he continues to play like he did last week against the Giants we might be seeing him here more often. Atlanta’s secondary has been great ranked 5th best in defending Fantasy QB’s as CB’s Asante Samuel and Dunta Robinson have been holding it down in the absence of CB Brent Grimes. Cam Newton also doesn’t have have great numbers against the Falcons with just two TD’s and 5 INT’s. You may not have a better option than Cam on your bench, but if you do, consider reserving him in this game.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

Stevan Ridley @ Buffalo

Ridley was taken out of the gameplan last week against Baltimore but should return this week against Buffalo. The Patriots should be running often in this game as they should hold the lead for the majority of the game. Look for Ridley to approach 100 yards rushing and have a couple shots to reach the endzone.

Ryan Mathews @ Kansas City

Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers

Mathews made his 2012 season debut last week, but was somewhat limited in his return from his shoulder injury. It also didn’t help that the Chargers got blown out and Mathews didn’t have a chance to really produce. Expect Mathews to get going against Kansas City as he gets it done in both the passing and running game. I expect over 100 total yards with 4 to 5 catches and a possible score.

Cedric Benson @ New Orleans

To my surprise, Benson has been fairly involved in the Packers offense. He’s received nearly 40 carries in his last two games and is even catching some passes out of the backfield. He should definitely be in the gameplan this week against New Orleans and their last ranked Rush Defense. Benson should approach 100 yards and find the endzone in what will be a shootout at the Superdome.

Sit ‘Em

Chris Johnson @ Houston

If you have traded Chris Johnson, I can’t blame you with his atrocious 1.4 yards per carry. I mean what the hell happened to this dude? 1.4  ypc? I’m pretty sure you and I could go out there and average at least 2 yards per carry. Anyway if you can’t deal him he needs to remain benched until proven otherwise, plus, this matchup sucks. Hopefully Jake Locker continues to emerge this season and helps open up some holes for him.

Steven Jackson vs Seattle

Here is another guy that you will regret drafting. I spoke on it last week, I never understand the infatuation with this guy. I ranted on it already, but steer clear of Jackson against Seattle. The Seahawks defense is legit.

Ryan Williams vs Miami

Good news for Williams owners as Beanie Wells will be out until November with a turf toe injury. Williams also showed some life against Philly by rushing for 83 yards on 13 carries. But, keep Williams benched this week against Miami and their top 10 Run Defense.

Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em

Vincent Jackson vs Washington

Vincent Jackson, Tampa Bay Bucs

Jackson was a recommended sit last week against the Cowboys but he is a must-start against this injury decimated Washington Defense. The Skins secondary has allowed the most points to Fantasy WR’s in 2012 getting torched by Danny Amendola and A.J. Green the last two weeks.

Brandon Lloyd @ Buffalo

Lloyd and Brady are looking better and better every week and It could finally all come together in Buffalo. Lloyd has seen 25 combined targets the last two weeks and look for Brady to look his way often again on Sunday. Lloyd doesn’t have a score so far and only has one 100-yard game so there is still some time to buy low.

Torrey Smith vs Cleveland

I had Smith on my sit list last week, but had I known he was going to play despite his brothers death, I would of recommended him. We see it a lot where something tragic happens to these players and they go out, play and have a special performance. Much respect to Smith who went off for two TD’s against New England. After a slow start to the season I expect last week’s game to catapult Smith and he should enjoy another nice game tonight.

Sit ‘Em

Nate Washington @ Houston

There is that Houston defense again. Washington had an amazing catch last week which went for a TD, but reserve him in this game.

Brandon Marshall @ Dallas

Brandon Carr shutdown Vincent Jackson last week and I expect him to matchup with Brandon Marshall this week and contain him as well. Cutler has been brutal, the Dallas secondary has been superb, stay away from Marshall.

Danny Amendola vs Seattle

Amendola was slowed down against Chicago after he exploded against Washington and he could be slowed even more against Seattle and their physical corners. Brandon Browner and Co. will be up in the face of Amendola and I expect him to struggle. I like Amendola, I hate this matchup.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Kyle Rudolph @ Detroit

Rudolph has 3 TD’s already this year and is proving to be Christian Ponder‘s favorite redzone target. Look for Rudolph to produce against the Lions who are allowing the 2nd most point to Fantasy Tight Ends.

Dennis Pitta vs Cleveland

Dennis Pitta, Baltimore Ravens

Pitta seems to be Joe Flacco‘s favorite option and it shows in the targets numbers as Pitta leads all Baltimore receivers with 31. Pitta should enjoy another nice game against Cleveland and is turning into an every week start.

Owen Daniels vs Tennessee

Daniels is finally healthy and has been steady so far this year. He finally reached the endzone last week and could return there again facing the Titans who are allowing the most points to Fantasy Tight Ends.

Sit ‘Em

Jared Cook @ Houston

Cook is the the 4th Titan to make the sit em list this week. Cook got into the endzone last week, but did come off a fluky big play. I expect Cook to remain inconsistent this year and he needs to be benched in unfavorable matchups such as this one.

Jason Witten vs Chicago

I thought Witten would get off the schnide last week, but he disappointed once again. Romo probably won’t have a bigtime game against Chicago, so that should mean Witten most likely will struggle again. Things will get better for Witten, but he needs to show it first before you start reinserting him back into your lineups.

Fred Davis @ Tampa Bay

After two slow weeks to start the season, Davis enjoyed a nice game last week going for 90 yards on seven catches. I’m still not convinced he’s going to be a favorite of RG3 this year or at least not right away so I am sitting him this week. Tampa Bay is also in the top 10 at defending the Tight End position.

IDP

Start ‘Em

Chris Clemons @ St. Louis

The undrafted Clemons had a monster game last week against Green Bay sacking Aaron Rodgers four times. Clemons has a great matchup against the Rams who allowed the most sacks in the league last year and are allowing the 2nd most sacks this year. Expect another nice performance.

Ed Reed vs Cleveland

Ed Reed, Baltimore Ravens

Ed Reed vs Brandon Weeden on National TV? Look for Reed to pick off Weeden at least once and possibly take one to the house.

Sit ‘Em

Cliff Avril vs Minnesota

Avril hasn’t gotten off to the start many people expected with just one sack this season after finishing with eleven last year. Keep him benched until he proves last season wasn’t a fluke.

Derrick Morgan @ Houston

Arian Foster and Ben Tate will be centerfolding this offense as usual, so Morgan won’t have many sack opportunities on Matt Schaub. The Texans offensive line has also allowed the 3rd fewest sacks.

FantasySavvy 2012: Week 3, Fantasy Five

By: Kevin Lewis,  @Klew24

Philadelphia @ Arizona

Start Vick with caution. He should have plenty of opportunities, as the Eagles defense will bottle up the Cardinals on Sunday. He also has been turnover prone, and the Cardinals do boast a good defense. And the Eagles lost 2 offensive linemen this past week. If you have a comparable backup option, I’d go with him.

Sit Larry Fitzgerald. I’m not saying his long term prospects this year look bleak. He will be fine. However, this week he’s going up against a good secondary. If you have a good option on your bench, go with it and feel comfortable. I know it’s hard benching a second round pick this early but it must be done.

Start Brent Celek. In this kind of game, against a good Arizona defense, I’d feel comfortable starting Vick’s safety blanket. Maclin is out which means there are targets to be had. Celek has had quite a start to the 2012 campaign and I’d expect that to continue.

Sit Desean Jackson. With Maclin out, I’d expect lots of rolled coverage to Jackson’s side. And with Patrick Peterson looming, I’d sit him out this week

Houston @ Denver

Sit Matt Schaub. I don’t think many people went into this season with Schaub as their starting QB but if you did, and you have a good bench option, go with him. Denver has actually done a fairly solid job against the pass.

Don’t be stirred by Peyton Manning’s performance last week. Yes he threw three picks but he’s also Peyton Manning. While his arm doesn’t look like what it once was, don’t overreact. While Houston is a tough matchup, I’d start Manning this week.

Start Willis McGahee. I know the Houston Texans defense is great, and Willis won’t get many yards on the ground. That being said, Peyton Manning led teams love running the ball inside the 10 yard line. I can see McGahee getting a TD or two this week on that account.

Stay patient with Eric Decker. A lot of people liked Decker over DeMaryius Thomas and I never really got why, but Decker should get better as the chemistry between him and Manning grows. He’s a solid WR.

St. Louis @ Chicago

Don’t be discouraged by Jay Cutler’s terrible performance last Thursday. He probably should have been a fringe starter/high end QB2 anyway, but if you have him, start him with confidence. The Rams defense isn’t particularly good.

Start Michael Bush. The Rams give up a robust 6+ YPC on runs up the middle. That is Michael Bush’s calling card. With Forte  OUT Sunday, Bush will likely have a big game.

Don’t get carried away with Danny Amendola. That being said, in PPR leagues, he’s an absolutely great flex play until proven otherwise. Start him with confidence. The Bears are a bend but don’t break kind of defense and Amendola will get a lot of looks.

Sit Stephen Jackson. He’s hurt, he may not play and if he does he’s playing against a very good run defense in the Bears. If you have comparable options, sit Jackson. Daryl Richardson could make for a sneaky flex play this week if Jackson is out, but the matchup isn’t great.

Green Bay @ Seattle

Sit Cedric Benson. Cedric Benson’s bread and butter is runs up the middle. Seattle stops them to the tune of a 2.2 YPC. Seattle’s defense is extremely tough and I think the Packers will do away with the run after realizing it isn’t going anywhere.

Start Randall Cobb. This seems like a game where the Packers will throw the ball 45+ times, and Cobb will see quite a few touches out of the backfield on 3rd down. If your league accounts for return yardage, that’s even better.

Sit Greg Jennings. Apparently he had a set back and he doesn’t have a good grasp on his groin injury. He plays Monday night so unless you have Randall Cobb on your bench, it’s best to bench him now and save yourself the headache.

Even with Aaron Rodgers coming in town, do NOT switch out the Seattle defense. They can play, and they will give Rodgers some trouble. Start them with confidence.

Kansas City @ New Orleans

Dwayne Bowe had 100+ yards and 2 touchdown scores last week. Start him again. Kansas City will likely be getting blown out and there will be plenty of garbage time minutes for Bowe to boost his numbers.

Mark Ingram isn’t a good RB, and he leaves a lot to be desired but he will have some chances to score on Sunday as NO will be marching against a struggling KC defense. If you need a flex and have him on your bench, give him a shot.

Start Lance Moore. Kansas City has struggled defending the pass as well. They weren’t really tested last week as CJ Spiller went nuts, but Brees and co will test them this week. Moore will be a good play this week.

KC will be down and KC will throw, so if you’re in need of a flex, or a RB in a pinch, start Dexter McCluster (PPR leagues). He will get 5-6 grabs and maybe sneak into the endzone. If you’re in need, take a chance and start him.

FantasySavvy 2012: Week 3 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em

As seen on FP911.com. Make sure to check there for a ton of great info.

Week two was a bit nutty, and we definitely went through some peaks and valleys.C.J. Spiller and Reggie Bush had monster weeks and as a result you will not see them in my start ‘em list any longer. They should be started regardless of matchup. Brent Celekwho we advised to sit against the tough Baltimore Defense burned us and should be started regardless of matchup as well. Other misses were Peyton ManningJames JonesRandall Cobb and Tony Moeaki, while we hit on Brandon LaFellAndrew Luck, Matt Cassel and Fred Davis. So, pretty much a 50/50 week. Not bad, but let’s shoot for 75% this weekend. Feel free to email me at SteveDeAngelo@gmail.com or hit me up on twitter @FantasySavvy with any specific questions.

Start ‘Em

Alex Smith, San Francisco 49ers

Alex Smith @ Minnesota

In his last nine games Alex Smith has 12 TD’s and zero INT’s, displaying accuracy and poise. That success should continue this week against a Minnesota secondary that has allowed 480 yards and four TD’s toBlaine Gabbert and Andrew Luck through the first two weeks. Look for a another typical, efficient game from Alex Smith as he finishes with close to 300 yards passing and throws at least two TD’s.

Andy Dalton @ Washington

The Washington secondary looked very spotty last week especially after losing key defensive components Adam Carriker and Brian Orakpo for the season. Sam Bradford lit them up for 310 yards and 3 TD’s and I expect Dalton to have similar success. DeAngelo Hall cannot keep up with A.J. Green and Dalton now has two emerging targets in Andrew Hawkins and Brandon Tate. This should be a high scoring affair, so look for Dalton to put up some gaudy numbers.

Andrew Luck vs Jacksonville

Luck looked solid last week in his home opener even though it came against the porous Minnesota secondary. Jacksonville and their lackluster offensive attack comes to town this weekend and with that should mean plenty of possessions for the Colts. Luck may not have a huge yardage day, but I expect him to be very efficient and toss 2 or 3 TD’s.

Sit ‘Em

Carson Palmer vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Palmer is much better in Fantasy Football than he is in real life because he does put up a lot of yards, but if you play him on the wrong week he can destroy your team. This is one of the weeks as the Raiders host the Steelers. Palmer moves like my 75 year-old Aunt Bloopie and the Steelers and their pass rush are going to terrorize him. Yes, Palmer may throw for 250 and possibly 1 or 2 TD’s in this game, but I also expect him to toss at least 2 or 3 interceptions as well. The odds are Palmer has a very ugly game on Sunday, stay away.

Sam Bradford @ Chicago

As noted before, Bradford had a monster game at home against the beat up Washington defense. This week it gets a little tougher on the road at Soldier Field in Chicago. I love what Danny Amendola has done and it looks like he’s in for a big season, but the Skins D was just letting him go whatever he wanted. Not sure that will be the case against the physical Bears defense who have two solid CB’s in Tim Jennings and Charles Tillman. The Bears slowed Aaron Rodgers last week and I expect them to slow Bradford down as well.

Peyton Manning vs Houston

I like the fact that Manning returns home against a team he historically has had good success against, but this a new and improved Texans Defense, a far cry from what Manning use to face when he was a Colt. Manning will be facing a Texans defense that was 4th best against Fantasy QB’s in 2011 and in 2012 thus far, are the best. I think Peyton is in for a very solid season, this is just a week to consider benching him.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

Trent Richardson, Cleveland Browns

Trent Richardson vs Buffalo

After Week 1 many Richardson owners had doubts about the Rookie back. But  he put a lot of those doubts to rest last week with his performance against the Bengals as he finished with over 140 total yards with two TD’s. Richardson ran with force, power and speed, and looked to be past his knee injury. Against Buffalo this week, the Browns should keep pace with the Bills and Richardson will  be heavily involved. Look for another very strong performance from the Rook.

Michael Bush vs St. Louis

Matt Forte has already been listed as “OUT” for this Sunday, so Mike Bush will get all he can handle against the Rams. Bush is an excellent goal line option and I expect him to find the endzone at least once if not twice against the Rams. You drafted Bush now go plug him into your lineup.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis @ Washington

The “LawFirm” has been fairly solid to start the season averaging 4.3 yards per carry and has been heavily featured in the Bengals offense averaging 19 carries per game. I expect the Bengals to be in the redzone often against the Skins, so look for Green-Ellis to punch the ball into the endzone at least once.

Sit ‘Em

Steven Jackson @ Chicago

I never really understood the infatuation with Steven Jackson. I’m sure he would have been much more successful had he not played for the lowly Rams all these years, but still year after year, owners draft him fairly early and their expectations are always too high. Jackson always gets a good amount of touches and gets a decent amount of yards, but he has only finished with over 10 TD’s once in his career which was in 2006.

Anyway I digress, I will never understand the Jackson love, but for owners who are considering to start him this week he needs to be benched. Chicago is a rough matchup and Jackson didn’t practice on Wednesday due to a groin injury. There were also some talk that Jeff Fisher benched Jackson after he spiked a ball in frustration, and that wouldn’t be the first time we saw Fisher do that to one of his players. To make matters worse, Jackson’s new backup Daryl Richardson ran well in Jackson’s absence and could now earn a bigger role regardless of Jackson’s health. Look to trade Steven Jackson if you can, but if your still a believer in the guy, keep him benched this week.

Shonn Greene @ Miami Dolphins

Greene was predictably stuffed up against the Steelers last week running for just 23 yards on 11 carries and I expect more disappointment against the Dolphins who shut down Darren McFadden last week. Miami was 6th best against Fantasy RB’s last year and look to be solid once again in 2012.

Adrian Peterson vs San Francisco

Against any other defense I would say Peterson is a must-start, but the 49ers are just so dominate against the run. We are talking about a team that allowed just three rushing TD’s all of last season and just 77 yards per game. If you have better options, keep Peterson benched.

Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em

Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs

Dwayne Bowe @ New Orleans

The Chiefs have been a pretty miserable bunch, but at least Dwayne Bowe hasn’t been. Bowe, looking to return to 2010 form when he had 15 TD’s, began that treck with 100 yards and 2 TD’s against the Bills last week. The Chiefs should be playing catch up in this one and will be airing it out, so Bowe should once again be the benefactor.

Dez Bryant vs Tampa Bay

I’m a little hesitant to put Dez here, but I don’t think it can get any worse than it got last week. Bryant had multiple drops and also lost a fumble, but I’ll chalk it up as a bad game and look for him to have his best game of the season so far against the Bucs. Hakeem Nicks absolutely abused Aqib Talib not even playing full strength, so Dez should also find some success. I expect Romo and the Cowboys to bounce back at home and for Bryant to finish with around 100 yards with a possible score.

Brandon LaFell vs New York Giants

LaFell was good to us last week finishing with 6 catches for 90 yards as it looks like he’s starting to emerge as a legitimate 2nd option behind Steve Smith. I expect him to keep it rolling in what should be a high scoring affair (Vegas has the total set at 51) in Carolina on Thursday Night.

Sit ‘Em

Eric Decker vs Houston

Decker was supposed to be Peyton Manning’s go to guy, but it’s been Demaryius Thomas. There is a chance Decker could still be that guy, but it won’t start this week against Houston. Wade Phillips has this Defense playing top notch and they will slow down Peyton Manning and Eric Decker. Decker is a solid buy-low candidate right now as he will start paying dividends eventually.

Vincent Jackson @ Dallas

Jackson has been Josh Freeman’s favorite target so far and should remain so throughout the season. I am a little weary of Jackson in this matchup however going against Mo Claiborne and Brandon Carr. The Dallas secondary has been very solid through two weeks and I expect them to hold Jackson under 60 yards.

Torrey Smith vs New England

The potential breakout candidate has had a very slow to start to the season with just four catches for 100 yards through two games.  I expect Smith to get going eventually, but he may not have the breakout season that many predicted. This isn’t a great matchup against an improved New England Defense that’s allowed the 8th fewest points to Fantasy WR’s so far this season. The Pats also shut down Larry Fitzgerald last week holding him to just four yards.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Owen Daniels @ Denver

Fairly steady production for Daniels in 2012 as he has caught 10 balls for 130 yards while seeing 17 targets through two games. Good matchup for him in Week 3 as he gets the Broncos who have struggled defending the Tight End. Heath Miller and Tony Gonzalez both found paydirt against the Broncos, so there is a good chance that Daniels finds it. Even if he doesn’t get there I expect him to finish with enough yards and catches to make him worthy of a fantasy start in Week 3.

Jason Witten vs Tampa Bay

Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys

This is more of a “gut” pick than anything but I look for Witten and Romo to finally get on track in Week 3. Martellus Bennett found success against Tampa Bay last week with five catches for 72 yards and a TD and I expect his ex-teammate to flourish also.

Greg Olsen vs New York Giants

Trying to leave off the obvious choices here, I am going with another “gut” pick in Olsen. While Olsen was mostly silent last week against New Orleans with just 1 catch for 13 yards, I believe he fares much better against the Giants. Newton and Eli will be airing it out all night and I look for Olsen to get into the mix finishing with close to 60-70 yards receiving with a possible score.

Sit ‘Em

Jermaine Gresham @ Washington

Gresham has just been simply uneventful and until he proves he can produce you need to leave him benched.

Kyle Rudolph vs San Francisco

Rudolph found the endzone last week, but hasn’t seen many targets or produced many yards. Don’t like the youngster against the 49ers who finished 2011 ranked 6th best against defending the Tight End.

Jacob Tamme vs Houston

Despite his two-catch 13-yard game against Atlanta last week, Tamme is still the Tight End to own in Denver. But, this is a game you probably want to sit him going against the Texans and their stout Defense which ranked 4th overall in defending the Tight End in 2011.

IDP

Start ‘Em

Cortland Finnegan, St. Louis Rams

Cortland Finnegan @ Chicago

Finnegan has taken his talents to St. Louis and has been great with 14 tackles, 2 INT’s, 3 pass deflections and a Defensive TD. Playing against Jay Cutler there is always a solid chance for an INT, at the very least he should rack up a couple pass deflections.

Sean Lee vs Tampa Bay

Greg Schiano loves to run the Football so expect a heavy dose of Doug Martin and for Sean Lee to rack up the tackles. He has 14 through two games.

Sit ‘Em

DeMarcus Ware vs Tampa Bay

As I’ve mentioned the Bucs will be running a ton, so don’t know how effective Ware will be with his sack chances being limited. This could be a slow week for Ware.

Brandon Browner vs Green Bay

Browner is a talented CB, but I hate this matchup against Aaron Rodgers who rarely gives the ball to the defense.

FantasySavvy: Week 2 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

As seen on FP911.com. Make sure to check there for tons of incredible information!

Good start to the season as we hit on a good amount guys in Week 1, suggesting to start RG3Reggie WayneMike BushKevin SmithCoby FleenerShonn GreenePeyton Manning and a few others. But a few mistakes in suggesting to sit Matt Ryan andJoe Flacco while suggesting to start Santana Moss, but overall a pretty solid Week 1 performance.

I didn’t have DeAngelo Williams out there like most “experts” who was supposedly was a must-start against the Tampa D. You can’t always go by the matchup, you have to look at the player and their production as well. Turrible (as Charles Barkley would say) job by them. Plus, I was early on the RG3 train, while a lot of other sites are just now getting him out there for this week. One week late fellas, one week late. On to Week 2.

If you didn’t check our Google+ Hangout Show from Tuesday Night you can check it out here.

Start ‘Em

Peyton Manning @ Atlanta

This is probably the last time I will put Manning in my Start ‘Em category because  he should be a “No Brainer” from here on out. But just in case you still have some doubts about this guy, let me try to put that to rest. Manning came out against the No.1 pass defense last season in the Steelers and looked like he had not just missed an entire season. Peyton was making his usual audibles at the line, most notably the audible to the theDemaryius Thomas screen pass which Thomas took to the house. He was his usual accurate self and displayed his terrific pocket presence.

This Monday Night, Manning heads to the Atlanta, playing in a dome where he is most comfortable. It also helps that the Falcons top CB Brent Grimes is on the I.R.  Manning is back and here to stay, so get him in your lineups and give yourself a pat on the back because you made a great investment.

Andrew Luck vs Minnesota

Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts

Facing the Bears at Solider Field, Luck had a little bit of a rough start to his career throwing three interceptions, completing just 51% of his passes and throwing for just one TD. But things will improve this week against Minnesota in the Colts home opener. The Vikings allowed Blaine Gabbertto throw for 239 yards and two TD’s, so it’s reasonable to believe that Luck will match that effort; but I expect him to exceed it.  Luck showed a nice rapport with his Stanford teammate Coby Fleener as well with the talented Colts veteran Reggie Wayne in Week 1, and it now looks likeAustin Collie will suit up Sunday, coming back from one of his several concussions. The weapons will be in full force, the matchup is right and Luck will be in the friendly confines of Lucas Oil Stadium. Luck won’t need noluck this week.

Matt Cassel @ Buffalo

It’s hard to trust Cassel in most spots and he stunk like your Uncle Marty’s feet last week with a couple awful throws, but this is a matchup where he can succeed.  The Bills ranked 29th in defending Fantasy QB’s in 2011 and they did not get off to great start in Week 1 allowing Mark Sanchez to throw 3 TD’s. The Bills also ranked 30th in defending the run, which indicates the Chiefs should be able to get their ground game going, helping the play-action passing game. The Chiefs should be in the redzone often and I look for Cassel to have an efficient day,  throwing for 2-3 TD’s with around 250 yards passing.

Sit ‘Em

Mark Sanchez @ Pittsburgh

Sanchez threw for 3 TD’s and 266 yards against Buffalo in Week 1, silencing the haters. But things won’t be as pretty in Heinz Field against Pittsburgh and their top-ranked defense. I expect this to be a defensive battle with a limited amount of points from both sides. Sanchez will probably be in for a better year than we all expected, but this a week to keep him reserved.

Ben Roethlisberger vs New York Jets

Don’t like this spot for Ben against the Jets and their revamped D. Revis and Cromartie match up well with the smaller Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown and even Jets nickel back Kyle Wilson looks improved and should stay with Emmanuel Sanders. Again, I like this to be a low-scoring affair with both offenses being limited.

Michael Vick vs Baltimore

Tough start to the season for Vick as last week he matched up against one of the best secondaries in the league in Cleveland and it doesn’t get any easier against Baltimore in Week 2. The Baltimore secondary will keep Vick and his receivers under wrap for the most part, so keep Vick on your bench.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

CJ Spiller, Buffalo Bills

C.J. Spiller vs Kansas City Chiefs

Spiller once again displayed his dynamic talents by rolling over the the New York Jets with 169 rushing yards and a TD on just 14 carries, good for 12.1 yards per carry. Fred Jackson is going to be out for the next 4-to-6 weeks so get ready to start C.J. every single week while Jackson remains sidelined. I don’t care who this guy plays he has to be in your lineup. He is going to receive a huge role and should be productive every time he gets the chance to start. I think Spiller will show that he is one of the best backs in the league in the coming weeks. If you grabbed Spiller in your drafts or auctions, props to you.

Stevan Ridley vs Arizona

The Pats offense gets even more lethal with the emergence of Stevan Ridley. This guy looks like he’s ready to have a big season in 2012, starting it off in Week 1 with 21 carries for 125 yards and a TD. Excellent matchup here against Arizona and Ridley should be able to find the endzone at least once. Regardless if Belichick starts tinkering with Shane VereenDanny Woodhead or Brandon Bolden, Ridley will maintain his role as the goal line back and should once again lead the team in carries.

Reggie Bush vs Oakland

Bush went  for over 100 total yards against the stout Texans Defense last week, so his production should remain the same, if not improve against the inferior Raiders Defense which ranked 26th against Fantasy backs in 2011. Daniel Thomas is now battling a concussion, so Bush will carry an even bigger load this week. I said it in my preseason article, if Bush can stay healthy he will have the best season of his career.

Sit ‘Em

Cedric Benson vs Chicago

If you can move Benson before tonight’s game do it. I just don’t think Benson is set up for success playing in this offense. He is a high volume guy who needs a lot of carries in order to produce and get into a flow. Also the Packers just pass the ball so often that they really don’t even need Benson. Benson might have a few nice games when the Packers are in the lead, but with the way their defense has been playing it looks like they are going to be playing in a fast paced mode the majority of the time. Whatever you decide to do with Benson, you need to sit him against Chicago, as I expect a ton of passing here and very little running coming from the Pack.

Shonn Greene @ Pittsburgh

Greene is probably going to get a good amount of carries come Sunday, but I expect little production. Pittsburgh’s Run D was 3rd best in defending Fantasy RB’s last season and are stout every single year. Keep Greene reserved as he will fail to reach the endzone and be held under 80 yards rushing.

Kevin Smith @ San Francisco

Last week was a great spot to start Smith against the Rams, but this week against the 49ers and their No.1 Run D, fugehedaboutit! Smith is not going to reach the endzone, will not gain many yards, but he will go to directly to jail, not pass go and not collect $200.

Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em

Randall Cobb vs Chicago

Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers

Cobb was on a lot of people’s sleeper list, but not many expected him to have such a big role so early in the season. I expected a Donald Driver, James Jones injury to thrust Cobb into the lineup. But since Cedric Benson really can’t catch the ball out of the backfield and the Packers don’t have any other viable options, they made Cobb their third-down back. This was simply an excellent move by Mike McCarthy and his staff in order to take advantage of Cobb’s talent. The move paid early dividends in Week 1 with Cobb catching nine passes for 77 yards.

The Packers will continue to use Cobb in the slot as well out of the backfield and he could be in for a extremely productive season in points per reception leagues. I would start Cobb regardless of what happens with Greg Jennings, who is questionable with a groin injury, but if Jennings doesn’t play Cobb is a must-start.

James Jones vs Chicago

Jones looked a little more sound then usual in Week 1 catching four balls for 81 yards and TD. I noticed a little more crisp route running from him, better hands and a little more speed. However, going forward I like Cobb a little bit more because of his unique role. I am putting Jones here with the expectation that Jennings doesn’t play in which case Jones needs to be in your lineups.

Brandon LaFell vs New Orleans

Last week New Orleans matched up with RG3, this week it will be 2011 Rookie of the Year, Cam Newton. Expect a shootout and while the Saints roll coverage at Steve Smith, Newton will hook up with LaFell like he did last week when Lafell finished with three catches for 65 yards and a score.

Sit ‘Em

Sidney Rice vs Dallas

Russell Wilson and Rice hooked up for a score in Week 1, but things will get difficult against the Cowboys and their much improved secondary. Morris Claiborne did a great job on Hakeem Nicks on opening night and I do not expect any different when he matches up with Sidney Rice. Rice will be slowed by the impressive Rookie, keep him reserved.

DeSean Jackson vs Baltimore

Jackson had a decent day against Joe Haden and the Cleveland secondary catching four balls for 77 yards, but I don’t like him this week against Baltimore. I’ve already stated I don’t like Vick in this matchup and Baltimore is going to get physical with Jackson taking him out of his comfort zone. Jackson also didn’t practice today and is questionable for this week.

Mike Wallace vs New York Jets

Here comes Revis Island, but if Revis sticks Antonio BrownAntonio Cromartie has the speed, physicality and length to disrupt Wallace.  Wallace is a candidate for your Bench, unless you do not have better options.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Jacob Tamme @ Atlanta Falcons

Tamme and Manning rekindled some of that old fire last Sunday Night as the two hooked up for 43 yards and a score. The connection should thrive again against Atlanta as Manning will once again be on his “A” game in what should be a shootout in the Georgia Dome on Monday Night.

Tony Moeaki @ Buffalo

Tony Moeaki, Kansas City Chiefs

Moeaki led the Chiefs with six targets in Week 1, tying Dwayne Bowe, but he had a poor game finishing with just three catches for 37 yards. But expect those targets to pay off this week against Buffalo who ranked dead last in defending the Tight End last year.

Coby Fleener vs Minnesota

I rocked with it last week,  and I’m going with the Fleener/Luck combo again. Luck is still getting comfortable in the NFL and while he does he’s going to lean on a familiar face. Fleener had an excellent game in Week 1 grabbing six balls for 82 yards while getting 10 targets and I expect the production to continue against Minnesota.

Sit ‘Em

Marcedes Lewis vs Houston

Many fantasy owners are snatching Lewis up, in hopes that he has a repeat of the 10 touchdown season he had in 2010. But I remain bearish on this guy, especially in this matchup against Houston who ranked 4th best in defending the Tight End in 2011. Keep Lewis reserved and temper your expectations for him this season.

Fred Davis @ St. Louis

There is no denying Davis’ talent, but I wonder how much RG3 will look his way this season. He didn’t really use his Tight End in college, then again he didn’t have a player as talented as Davis. The jury is still out on Davis this season, but for this week I would reserve him against the Rams who ranked No.1 in defending the Tight End last year.

Brent Celek vs Baltimore

The Celek, Vick connection continued last week, just as it did towards the end of last season as Celek finished as one of the top Tight Ends in Fantasy. But difficult matchup here against Baltimore and Ray Lewis who ranked No.3 in defending the position last year. Not of a lot of upside this week for Celek.

IDP’s

Start ‘Em

DE, DT- Randy Starks vs Oakland

Starks enjoyed a nice game against Houston in Week 1 sacking Matt Schaub twice while finishing with five tackles, two that went for a loss. He should stay hot against the slow footed Carson Palmer who was sacked three times against the Chargers on Monday Night.

Donald Butler, San Diego Chargers

LB- Donald Butler vs Tennessee

Butler was impressive on Monday Night against the Raiders finishing with a sack and 7 solo tackles, two for a loss. He could be a breakout defensive player in 2012 and he should fare well against Jake Lockerand the Titans.

Sit ‘Em

DE, Chris Clemons vs Dallas

Surprisingly Romo was only sacked and hit twice against the Giants and their ferocious Defensive Line, this was mostly due to Romo’s remarkable pocket presence and ability to get outside the pocket. Don’t like the matchup for Clemons here going against Romo, who will once again put that pocket presence on display.

DT Israel Idonije @ Green Bay

The talented Idonije won’t be seeing much of rushing game from the Packers as they will be throwing early and often, preventing Idonije from having a big impact fantasy wise.

Fantasy Savvy 2012: Fantasy Five, Week 1

By: Kevin Lewis

Bills at Jets

Steve Johnson, Buffalo Bills

Synopsis: Let me preface this by saying that I like Stevie Johnson in fantasy this year. He’s a WR2 who you can get at bargain basement prices. That being said, I don’t expect him to do much of anything this week. With the talk of his overplayed success being popular all week, I expect Darrelle Revis to send him a clear message on Sunday. He’s a “Do Not Start” for me.

I actually think both these QBs are being unfairly discarded from a fantasy standpoint. I’ve never seen a QB account for 32 touchdowns and not get drafted the following year, but that is where we are with Mark Sanchez. I think folks are brainwashed by the potential of Tebow, who is awful, taking over. But if you’ve watched both of them play QB, it’s quite obvious that Sanchez is much better. I get that Tebow will slice into a lot of work inside the 10, but Sanchez should be at worst, a good bye week substitution.

While I’m not a big fan of Ryan Fitzpatrick from a reality standpoint, last year he was doing well fantasy wise before he hurt his ribs. Buffalo plans on spreading it out, and Fitzpatrick has a decent mix of weapons at his disposal including two running backs that are pass catching threats.

Speaking of backs, I expect Fred Jackson to show this season the same things he showed before he broke his leg last season. I fully expect that he will be a top 7-8 fantasy back and be a steal with where he’s going in drafts (I’ve never seen him go before round 3). Even with a relatively strong performance last season, I’m not buying CJ Spiller being a significant factor out of the backfield for Buffalo this season. I think folks are overthinking in that regard and I think folks forgot what Jackson was doing before he got hurt last season. That being said, I like Spiller as a decent flex option with potential for more with a Jackson injury. I actually don’t like either this week as I think the Jets defense is out to send a message but Jackson may get a TD. Spiller may cause damage out of the backfield, especially with three and four WR’s on the field. The Jets don’t have anyone to contend with him really.

Prediction: Jets 24 Bills 14

Atlanta Falcons @ Kansas City Chiefs

Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs

Synopsis:  Matt Ryan, Jamaal Charles, Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White, Dwayne Bowe, Julio Jones, Michael Turner, Jacquizz Rodgers. There are a lot of prominent fantasy names featured in this contest.

Many are high on Matt Ryan this season. I have even seen a few people pick him to win NFL MVP. From a reality standpoint, I think he’s immensely overrated but from a fantasy standpoint I can see a little uptick in his numbers. First of all, I think Julio Jones will be the second best WR in fantasy this year (second only to Megatron). Second of all, the consistently productive Roddy White and steady Tony Gonzalez surround Jones. Possibly the biggest reason for a potential breakout for Matt Ryan is the fact that Michael Turner is declining and there might be a need for a more heavy reliance on Ryan. That is also why I like Jacquizz Rodgers. Atlanta should pass the ball more, and Rodgers is more useful in that setting. I have Ryan in the second tier of QBs with guys like Tony Romo, Eli Manning, and Philip Rivers.

It will be interesting to see what Jamaal Charles does after missing an entire season with an ACL tear. He relies heavily on lateral quickness. The positive is that, unlike Adrian Peterson and Rashard Mendenhall, he’s had plenty of time to recover. The Chiefs run blocking is pretty good, and Charles had a robust 6.1 YPC in 2009/2010 on 420 carries. If he’s healthy, he should be incredibly productive. Only downside is that he will never score a lot of touchdowns but he did score 16 touchdowns in 2009/2010 and that is more than enough not to sap his value. Peyton Hillis may have some value as a flex because Kansas City should be running the ball plenty. Dwayne Bowe, for all his shortcomings, had 1100 yards and 5 touchdowns catching the ball from Tyler Palko and Kyle Orton the last two months. He should have a big year.

Last note, Dexter McCluster may have some use as a flex option in deeper leagues, because he may get plenty of touches as a safety valve of sorts. Prediction: Atlanta 27 Kansas City 20

Washington @ New Orleans

Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins

Synopsis: Reality speaking, I really think the Saints will blow the Redskins out. Onto the fantasy side, there are interesting subplots at RB here on both sides. With Washington, you have the maddening tendency of Mike Shanahan to play Russian Roulette with his running backs. And with New Orleans, you have the conundrum that is Mark Ingram.

On the Redskins side, Roy Helu had a productive rookie season once he was inserted into the lineup, but now is second on the depth chart to the apparently less talented Evan Royster. In addition to that, rumblings about Alfred Morris became louder as camp progressed on. This situation is frustrating for me as a fantasy owner because I have Helu on three different teams as a late flier. In my eyes he is clearly the best back on the team but the Shanahan’s play around with the depth chart too much. The potential is there but the return likely won’t be because of circumstances Helu can’t control.

On the Saints side, you know what Darren Sproles is going to give you. He’s difficult to cover out of the backfield, and the short passes to him are like an extended running game for the Saints. The interesting player here is Mark Ingram. He struggled with injuries and had a general lack of productivity last year but he does have talent and he is setup to be a goalline back on arguably the most potent offense in football.  I think he is a good value where he is going because he can probably be a #2 back on your team and you’re getting him for #3 back/flex prices.

Who will start opposite Pierre Garcon for the Redskins? Who will fill Robert Meachem’s shoes? How will Jimmy Graham follow up his historic season last year? Who ends up being next in line behind Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston? What does Robert Griffin put forth in his rookie campaign? Prediction:  New Orleans 45 Washington 21

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

San Francisco @ Green Bay

Synopsis: I think Jermichael Finley is in for a breakout season this year. I think he’ll go for 1000+ yards. Why? I don’t really know. I’m not a huge fan of his mental makeup but the guy’s talent is so tantalizing, and you’d think more attention will be paid to Jordy Nelson who was second in the NFL in touchdowns last season. I like Finley as a top five tight end this year. Obviously, this is a tough matchup for him and the rest of the Packer offense.

Randall Cobb is a super sleeper for me, especially in leagues that keep track of return yards. Rodgers took kindly to him whenever he was on the field at wide receiver last year. With Driver being phased out a bit because of his decline, maybe Cobb’s workload increases. He’s shifty and runs good routes, and plays with the best QB in the sport. I see good things on the horizon.

On the 49ers side, Frank Gore is getting up there in “running back age”, and has quite a few miles on his tires. He had a rough second half of last year as he averaged less than four yards per carry and scored three touchdowns. The 49ers responded to that by signing Brandon Jacobs, and drafting LaMichael James to go with camp standout. Given a decline in the second half last year, and a conservative offense where his catches are practically eliminated because of being a consistent blocker, it’s not hard to see a scenario where Gore is no longer a RB1 caliber player. Kendall Hunter is a good late flier too as he’s impressed in camp, and Gore as mentioned is older and injury prone.

We’ll see if the 49ers continue to use Vernon Davis like they did in the playoffs where he had standout games against the Giants and Saints. If he does, he can be a top three TE. If not he’ll be what he was last year, an inconsistent player with a big game every now and again. Prediction: Packers 24 49ers 20

Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos

Synopsis: Pittsburgh’s running back situation is loaded with question marks. Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer are pretty unremarkable talents and Rashard Mendenhall is fresh off an ACL injury and nobody knows when he’s coming back.

Todd Haley likes to throw the ball, and Ben Roethlisberger has a full arsenal of weapons. The line is spotty, but that’s never deterred Roethlisberger before. If Mike Wallace isn’t bitten by the typical post holdout lack of production, Roethlisberger could turn out to be a steal in the later rounds.

I also believe Antonio Brown will be the best fantasy WR on the Steelers and will end up top 10 overall in PPR formats. He’s in for a monster year.

On the Broncos, the most interesting developments will be the Eric Decker/DeMaryius Thomas dynamic and what McGahee will do now that the offense isn’t as run heavy. Without Tebow, and the defenses focusing to stop him in the game how will McGahee do? Who will be the more productive WR? DeMaryius or Decker? Will Peyton Manning’s neck hold up?

What will Jacob Tamme do? Unsurprisingly all of this hinges on Manning and just how healthy/productive he is. As far as this week, I’m not sure I like Manning in his first game against a defense that has given him trouble in the past. Long term though, I love the value with him.

Prediction: Pittsburgh 27 Denver 21

11/30 Player News

49ers RB Frank Gore was placed on I.R. Tuesday with a fractured hip. Brian Westbrook, who shredded the Cardinals defense for 136 yards and a touchdown will start this Sunday. Rookie Anthony Dixon(54 yards, 1 TD) will take over back up duties and is worth a flier in deeper leagues in case Westbrook’s health becomes an issue.

Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski’s season is now over after reinjuring his throwing shoulder during Sunday’s home loss to the Dolphins. Jason Campbell will retake the starting job.

Colts QB Peyton Manning suffered a stinger during Sunday’s loss to the Chargers. The injury is considered minor however and we fully expect him to play in week 13.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger suffered a sprained foot during Sunday’s contest against the Bills. Big Ben played through the injury and will be placed in a walking boot this week. I’d bet he plays Sunday night against the Ravens but stay tuned for updates.

Raiders TE Zach Miller actually has been dealing with a torn plantar fascia the last few weeks and then preceded to leave Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins with a badly bruised fibula. Miller seems to be quite the mess at this point with leg injuries, and i’m not so sure he’ll get back to 100% any time this year.

Texans TE Owen Daniels(hamstring) is fully expected to return Week 14. Joel Dreessen is expected to make at least one more start and is a borderline TE1 for one more week.

Cowboys RB Marion Barber(calf) is expected to miss the next two weeks. This means Felix Jones touches will increase and this will be Tashard Choice’s chance to overtake Barber as the number two back going forward.

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson’s MRI revealed that his ankle is only sprained which is a great sign. He is currently expecting to start Sunday but we’ll monitor his status as the week goes on.

Chargers WR Vincent Jackson’s return Sunday night was ended quickly when he left the game with calf injuries. After missing the first 11 weeks, he will now be out until at least week 15 now with the double calf ailment. It’s a shame as many owners felt he would be a HUGE addition to their lineups, now will have to go back to their previous options.

Packers WR Greg Jennings(foot) is not expected to practice until Thursday at the very least after being diagnosed with a foot strain. He’s likely to suit up Sunday but we’ll see how he responds when he returns to practice.

Bills rookie running back C.J. Spiller(hamstring) is expected to return this week after missing the last three games. I don’t think he’ll eat into Fred Jackson’s touches too much, but it’s really anyones guess as to what the Bills will do at this point.

Brandon Marshall(hamstring) who missed his first game due to injury every during Week 12, is considered day-to-day for the time being. If he is unable to go this week, Davone Bess and Brian Hartline would make solid flex options especially with Chad Henne back under center against the Browns.

Lions QB Shaun Hill has a broken index finger and it is feared that his season may be over. Matthew Stafford is still trying to come back from yet another shoulder injury meaning Drew Stanton could be under center this week which would decrease the value of almost all the Lions offensive players against the Bears.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has declined to name a starter at running back for week 13. Keiland Williams barely received any carries and James Davis got some second half carries. This right now appears like something you’ll want to avoid going forward because Coach Shanahan can just never make up his mind and leave it to him to ruin a decent run the rookie Williams had been on.

Colts RB Joseph Addai(neck/shoulder) is unfortunately unlikely to retun in Week 13. He will be limited to non contact practices once again this week which further enforces people’s belief that he won’t return this week. Donald Brown will likely get another start and while Brown has been ineffective in the running game, he has actually been productive in the passing game so he’s a solid start in PPR league’s this week.

Tight Ends

1. Jacob Tamme @ NE- Leads the league in receptions last 3 weeks

2. Dustin Keller vs Houston- Should have a field day against this defense, Houston worst against the pass, worst against Tight Ends

3. Vernon Davis vs Tampa Bay

4. Antonio Gates (game-time decision/doubtful) vs Denver- Playing on Monday Night Football so probably gonna have to look for other options

5. Zach Miller @ Pittsburgh- Expected to play and should enjoy a nice game vs the Steelers D that was tore up by Rob Gronkowski last week.

6. Jason Witten vs Detroit- Disappointing 1 catch performance last week vs the Giants, should rebound here.

7. Ben Watson @ Jacksonville- Mcoy’s favorite target will have a nice game in this matchup

7A. Chris Cooley @ Tennessee

8. Visanthe Shiancoe vs GB- Got robbed of a TD last game in GB, he gets revenge here and finds the endzone.

9. Aaron Hernandez vs Indy- Colts are #2 in points allowed to Tight Ends but I expect Hernandez to get back in the mix this week after a quiet week 10.

10. Tony Gonzalez @ STL- Roddy may see a lot of attention this week, so the Ol man should get a good amount of looks

11. Brandon Pettigrew- Now that Shaun Hill is back, his numbers should improve again.

12. Jermaine Gresham vs Buffalo- Best game of the year last week, should enjoy another nice week vs Buffalo who are giving up 2nd most points to Tight Ends

13. Todd Heap @ Carolina- Probably will be playing with a lead all game, but should get some early points. Carolina 3rd worst against Tight Ends

14. Kellen Winslow @ SF- Got more involved last week and Freeman should find him again with his talent.

15. Tony Moeaki vs Arizona- Warming up a bit after a few slow weeks. Good matchup here.

16. Marcedes Lewis vs Cleveland- Mangini will keep him out of the endzone. If he doesn’t score he isn’t really useful.

17. Heath Miler vs Oakland

18. Brent Celek @ NYG- Be patient with him as teams start to give more and more focus to Jackson, things should open up for him.

19. Jeremy Shockey vs Seattle

20. Kevin Boss @ Philly
