Fantasy Savvy Week 1 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

Posted on FP911.com as well. Make sure to head there for tons of great info.

Ok, it’s finally time for Football, no more drafts, no more auctions, although I know there are some leagues still drafting into this week. Thank god I’m all done because if I saw Coby Fleener or Benard Scott’s name anymore I was going to blackout! But were ready to rock and we get you set with the Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em’s. You won’t see the obvious names on here, that would be pointless. Maybe occasionally to give you a reminder, but rather we are looking to identify some guys that you may be on the fence with and encourage you to either start or sit them. Matchups will be broken down, stats will be used, some projections will be provided and some “gut” feeling will be mixed in. But at the end of the day, it’s your “gut” you need to roll with.

Quarterbacks- Start ‘Em

Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins

Robert Griffin III @ New Orleans

Griffin gets a great matchup to start the season against New Orleans and regardless of whether he plays great or not, he will put up productive numbers. Three reasons to start RG3 in this game. First, the Skins will most likely be playing catchup to the Saints powerful offense. Second, the Skins backfield is still a hot mess, so the Shahanan’s will most likely be putting the ball in RG3′s hands the majority of the game. Lastly, the Saints secondary allowed the 24th most points to Fantasy QB’s last year by giving up an average of 21 points per game. Simply throw RG3 out there and enjoy the show.

Matt Schaub vs Miami

Schaub has been very undervalued in drafts and auctions this year. Owners no doubt were concerned about his injury potential as well as Andre Johnson’s, while taking into account that this offense now runs through Arian Foster. But this is still a guy who threw for a combined 9,000 yards with 53 TD’s in 2009 and 2010 and last year was on his way to another successful season with 15 TD’s and 2,500 yards before he got hurt in Week 10.

For week 1 at least, Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels and Schaub himself are all healthy and ready to go. The weapons are there, the matchup is there (Miami allowed the 23rd most points to Fantasy QB’s last year) and the Texans are at home on the turf. Schaub also might have a nice little second option this season in second year WR, Lestar Jean. I look for 250 to 300 yards passing with 2-3 TD’s from Schaub.

Peyton Manning vs Pittsburgh

The stats and logic will tell you to sit Manning in this matchup. First game back in over a year, new team, new offense and matched up with the Steelers who will be looking for revenge for their Wildcard loss to the Broncos. Pittsburgh was also number one in pass defense and were the best against Fantasy QB’s last season, allowing just 13 points per game.

Maybe we should just wait and see how he does? Give him a week?  Many fantasy “experts” think Manning will be a bust this season, but I disagree. I think he has a very successful season and starts the year off with a bang on Sunday night. This is still Peyton Manning we are talking about, arguably the best QB in the league two seasons ago. In Denver, he’s got the weapons in Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas and Willis McGahee. Then Sprinkle in a little Jacob Tamme and Brandon Stokley to make him feel at home. All systems a go as I look for Manning to approach 300 yards passing with 2-3 TD’s.

Sit ‘Em

Ryan Fitzpatrick @ New York Jets

If Fitzpatrick is your starter in Week 1, you are either are in a two Quarterback league, a 16-team league, really waited long to take a QB or just love the Buffalo Bills. Fitzpatrick has started hot the last two seasons, but he’s going to have a slow week 1 facing the Jets and Darrelle Revis. Stay away.

Matt Ryan @ Kansas City

Obviously Ryan is expected to have the best season of his career with all the glorious weapons he has. I don’t doubt it, I just think this is a spot you might want to consider benching him. Arrowhead Stadium is going to be extremely loud for Week 1 and I expect the Falcons to struggle on offense a bit. The Chiefs are going to using their “ground and pound” strategy with the tandem of Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis and play ball control offense. The K.C. defense is also a young, and talented group who were very stout against Fantasy QB’s last year, ranking 7th best, allowing just 16 points per game.

Joe Flacco vs Baltimore

Like Matt Ryan, Flacco should improve on last season’s numbers, but he needs to be benched against the Bengals. In his last four games against Cincy, Flacco has thrown just four TD’s compared to five Int’s and is averaging a horrific 119 yards per game.  The Bengals were also the 5th stingiest in defending Fantasy QB’s in 2011. Cornerbacks Leon Hall, Nate Clements and newly added Terrence Newman will limit Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith, capping Joe Flacco’s performance in Week 1.

Running Backs- Start ‘Em

Kevin Smith vs St. Louis

Pretty easy here, Lions will score a ton of points at home in this one and Smith will be a contributor. Mikel LeShoure is out two games with the suspension, Jahvid Best is still on the PUP list,  and so this is Kevin Smith’s job right now. When he’s healthy he produces and this is a great matchup against the Rams who allowed more than 150 yards rushing per game last season.

Shonn Greene vs Buffalo

In two games against Buffalo last season, Greene carried the ball 32 times for 154 yards, averaging five yards per carry. With L.T. gone, Greene could approach 20 carries in this game, reach 100 yards and possibly find the endzone against a Buffalo defense that gave up the third most points to Fantasy RB’s last season.

Michael Bush vs Indianapolis

Bush should make for a fairly solid flex play this week matching up with the Colts who allowed an average of 27 points per game to Fantasy RB’s last season, good for 4th most in the league. Matt Forte is still the main cog, but Bush should get a lot of the short yardage and goal-line carries. 40-50 yards rushing with a score is likely.

Sit ‘Em

Maurice Jones-Drew @ Minnesota

Jaguars Head Coach Mike Mularkey has already announced Rashad Jennings will draw the start with MJD being mixed in, maybe getting 7-12 touches. Jones-Drew even stated this week that “he has to get his job back”.  Week 2 or Week 3 he should fully regain the reigns, but in the meantime keep him benched while he gets back into the groove of things.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis @ Baltimore

Bernard Scott has ruled himself out for Sunday and the “Lawfirm” will be ready for a big workload, but don’t expect much production against the Ravens. Baltimore was 4th best in defending the RB position last year.

Cedric Benson vs San Francisco

The 49ers had the number one run defense last season and allowed the fewest points to Fantasy RB’s so steer far and clear from Benson this week. Even if they do punch it in from the one yard-line, we could be hearing the Kuhnnnnnnnnn as John Kuhn scores a TD. This could be a frustrating season overall for Benson owners.

Wide Receivers Start ‘Em

Santana Moss, Washington Redskins

Santana Moss @ New Orleans

Moss will be in the slot this year for the Skins, a role I think he can excel in. If you guys have been following me, you know I have been bullish on Moss this year as a nice little sleeper pick. He should get things going in this high scoring affair with the Saints.

Reggie Wayne @ Chicago

Wayne and Rookie QB Andrew Luck showed a nice rapport in the preseason and I expect that continue all year. Wayne is no longer catching passes from Curtis Painter or Kerry Collins, he now has a legit, accurate QB tossing him the rock. Expect Luck to lean on Wayne early and often, in this matchup with the Bears secondary.

Justin Blackmon @ Minnesota

If Blaine Gabbert wants to keep his job, he will need to deliver the ball consistently to the vastly talented Blackmon. We saw it in the preseason with Blackmon and Gabbert hooking up for 136 yards and a TD in about 6 quarters. The Minnesota Defense should make it easy on the duo as they allowed the 2nd most to Fantasy WR’s last year. Blackmon was limited in Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury, but should be fine for Sunday.

Sit ‘Em

Steve Johnson @ New York Jets

Recommending to sit Johnson here, even though Stevie J (don’t confuse with the producer) actually had his way with Revis last year finishing with 11 catches for 159 yards and a TD in two games. But I wouldn’t bank on Johnson this week, as he is still working his way back from groin surgery. Keep him reserved.

Brandon Lloyd @ Tennessee

We heard tons of hype about the Brady, Lloyd connection in training camp, but we didn’t see much of it in the preseason. This connection could take a few games to fully develop. In the meantime, Brady will be throwing to the usual suspects in Gronk, Hernandez and Welker. With Brady and Lloyd still working out some kinks and the the Titans ranking 5th best in points allowed to Fantasy WR’s last year, I am sitting Lloyd in Week 1.

DeSean Jackson @ Cleveland

No suspension as of yet for Browns CB Joe Haden, as he has appealed, so that means the Browns and their stout secondary should be in full force for the opener. Jackson may be in for a rebound season (I don’t see it), but either way, it would be wise to sit him against the Browns who ranked number one in defending Fantasy WR’s last year.

Tight Ends- Start ‘Em

Coby Fleener @ Chicago

Luck and Fleener (there’s that name again!!) have the Stanford connection working for them and it could show itself early  as both get accustomed to the NFL. It also helps that Brian Urlacher isn’t fully healthy and Chicago allowed the 26th most points to Tight Ends last season. If I had to pick between “Fantasy Sleepers” Kyle Rudolph and Coby Fleener in Week 1, I’m going with Fleener. I might just pick Fleener solely on the name. Fleeeeener!!!! To bad Gus Johnson left CBS.

Brent Celek @ Cleveland

Why no love for Celek? Brent finished the season strong last year finishing with 811 yards on 62 catches with 5 TD’s, but still was being under appreciated by Fantasy Owners in drafts this year. Vick loves to go to him and while the Browns are great against Fantasy WR’s, they can’t defend Tight Ends nearly as well, allowing the 16th most points to the position.

Vernon Davis @ Green Bay

After the 49ers kept Davis into block much of year last season which hurt his overall regular season numbers, they finally got the ball in Davis’ hands in the postseason. Davis exploded in his two postseason games finishing with 10 catches for 292 yards and 4 TD’s. I know that Jim Harbaugh is a smart man, so he should be looking Davis’ way even more this season. Davis should pop off in Week 1 against Green Bay who allowed the 2nd most points to Fantasy TE’s last year. Davis also has 308 yards and 13 catches in three career games against the Pack. Start with confidence.

Sit ‘Em

Jared Cook vs New England

Cook is a beast in size at 6’5 250 and could very well have a breakout season, but this a matchup to consider reserving him in. The Pats allowed the 2nd fewest points to Tight Ends last season with just around 10 points per game. Maybe give Locker and Cook a little more time to develop before fully trusting this connection.

Brandon Pettigrew vs St. Louis

Pettigrew should enjoy a nice season playing in this high-powered offense, but the Rams won’t make it easy on him in Week 1. St. Louis ranked numero uno in defending the Tight End last year, allowing a measly 8 points per game.

Jermaine Gresham @ Baltimore

Gresham is still questionable for Sunday, but even if he plays he should be on your bench going against the Ravens Defense. Ray Lewis has also reportedly dropped 20 pounds in order to keep up with the quicker Tight Ends. Gresham’s injury, Ravens Defense, not a good combo, stay away.

IDP Start ‘Em

Cliff Avril, Detroit Lions

DE, Cliff Avril vs St. Louis

Avril broke out for the Lions last year with 11 sacks. He should continue that surge this season and punish Sam Bradford who is being protected by one of the worst pass blocking offensive lines in the NFL. The Rams allowed a league-high 55 sacks last season.

DE, J.J. Watt vs Miami

Watt was one of leaders on Wade Phillips’ top ranked Texans defense last year and will enjoy playing against Miami who allowed 52 sacks in 2011.

Sit ‘Em

CB, DeAngelo Hall @ New Orleans

Don’t like this matchup for Hall who is better in Fantasy than he is in the NFL. Drew Brees will be throwing darts, leaving few chances for Hall to get deflections or an interception.

Cameron Wake @ Houston

The Texans will be running effectively and moving the chains all night. Their offense will be efficient and wear down this Miami defense. Keep Wake benched this week.

Yea Get em in, Nah, Bench that guy (Start Em, Sit Em Week 7)

By: Steve DeAngelo

As always, we try to leave the obvious choices out. Of course if you need to be reminded we will make sure to do that. Let’s get to it! Tomorrow we will be releasing our Rankings and Matchups. Stay Tuned. Send any lineup questions to SteveDeAngelo@gmail.com or @ Twitter.Com/FantasySavvy

Get Em In

QB’s

Carson Palmer @ Atlanta

Palmer has not looked like himself since his knee surgery, especially this year with a lot of inaccurate passes and also showing lack of the arm strength he once had. That said, he still is an above average Fantasy QB with great weapons surrounding him. Chad Ochocinco has vowed to get back on track and I think he will. He was playing with a dislocated finger and a cracked rib so the bye week definitely helped him. I think the bye week came at a good time for the Bengals and Palmer after that brutal loss to Tampa Bay at home where Palmer threw some costly interceptions. This week he gets Atlanta and their 25th ranked pass defense. They are still ranked 25th despite facing Dennis Dixon, Alex Smith, Derek Anderson and Seneca Wallace in 4 of their 6 games. That bodes well for Palmer, Ocho and T.O. I think the Bengals win this game and Palmer has nice success moving the ball.

Chad Henne vs Pittsburgh

At first glance your initial impression is probably to sit Henne against a tough physical Pittsburgh Defense. However Pittsburgh’s strength is in their Run Defense which is the best in the league. Miami’s gameplan will be to attack this secondary that is letting up 233 yards a game through the air. Pittsburgh has only allowed 3 passing TD’s all year but I think Henne will get two of them this week. Brandon Marshall is on fire right now with Henne and Pittsburgh has no answer for him, then again most teams don’t. Also the talented Devone Bess has been playing at a high level. Look for Henne to give you around 250 yards through the air with multiple TD’s.

Matt Haselback vs Arizona

I don’t like this guy to stay consistent at all through the year and think he stinks personally, but if there is a week to use him it’s this week against Arizona. We all know Arizona’s secondary isn’t any good as evidenced by their 26th overall ranking against the pass. Mike Williams should have a fairly good game again and Deon Butler will get open. Also John Carlson is a threat. Hasselback makes for a good bye week filler. I expect him to finish around 250 yards with a couple of TD’s.

Nah

Kevin Kolb @ Tennessee

After doubting Kolb, he has bounced back nicely the last two weeks looking like a different QB than he did earlier in the year. That said, I don’t like this matchup for him against a feisty Tennessee Pass D and without his best wideout in Desean Jackson. Kolb is going to struggle in this spot on the road and without his best playmaker. Look for other options this week.

Get Em In

RB’s

Thomas Jones vs Jacksonville

Jones has looked good all year, still running hard and showing burst even able to still to that corner at the age of 31. The guy keeps himself in better shape than most and it shows on the field. Jacksonville is more notorious for the horrendous pass d, but their Rush D isn’t much better ranked at 19th in the league. The reason I really like Jones this week is because of the scoring opportunities he will have. Kansas City should be able to move the ball at ease on this Defense and should have plenty of possessions with Todd Bouman playing QB for the Jaguars. Jones should see the endzone at least once and two TD’s is very likely. Get him in. Also of course get Jamal Charles in your lineups, you never sit him with his explosiveness.

Peyton Hillis @ New Orleans

Hillis has struggled to run the past two weeks as he’s been a little banged up and has faced to solid run D’s in Atlanta and especially Pittsburgh. However this week he will see success against the New Orleans Run D. Hillis is a big bruising back and he will churn yards against this D. Also even if they are trailing with Colt Mcoy in the 2nd half Hillis will remain a factor in the pass game as he has had just under 50 yards receiving the last two weeks. Hillis is going to see a heavy workload this week get him in your lineups.

Marshawn Lynch vs Arizona

Lynch didn’t have a great game yardage wise last week with only 44 yards on 17 carries but still finished with a TD. That was against a tough Bears run D, this week it gets much , much easier against the swiss cheese Arizona Run D ranked 29th in the NFL and letting up 140 yards per game. Lynch is going to have field day against this defense and will see the endzone at least once. Make sure to get him in there.

Nah

Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams vs Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh’s Run D is the best in the league only letting up 63 yards a game. Don’t even think about it.

Maurice Jones-Drew @ K.C.

Obviously you didn’t take Jones-Drew 3rd/4th in your draft or spend $40+ dollars in auctions to sit him, but if you have better options than I would sit him this week. Jones Drew has only 1 100 yard game all year and only has two TD’s. He really hasn’t looked the same and his knee has to be bothering him some or at least slowed him down. Also not helping Jones-Drew is his offensive line, they are simply not opening holes for him. You definitely should be testing the trade waters right now for Jones-Drew. This week it gets worse for the Human Bowling ball as both Garrard and Trent Edwards are out leaving duties to Todd Bouman. K.C’s Run D is already solid at 5th in league but now they will get even stronger as they will be able to crowd the box to focus on Drew. If you have better options leave Drew on your bench.

Ryan Torain @ Chicago, Matt Forte vs Skins

Torain had a good game last week going for a 100 yards and a TD but it was against an undersized Colts D. Torain is decently talented, he can hit holes and run with power, but he isn’t explosive and isn’t the most agile back. Things will get tougher this week against a stout Bears Run D ranked # 3 in the league led by Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs. Keep Torain on your bench this week and maybe see if you can move him before Sunday, he isn’t a good bet to stay healthy.

Until Mike Martz decides to run the ball more than Forte will not be a good option. When Martz was forced to run the ball with Todd Collins at QB against Carolina Forte excelled running for 140 yards with a couple of TD’s. Forte is not getting the carries he needs to produce and in this matchup against a brutal pass D in Washington you can bet Martz is lickin his chops looking to pass a ton. Problem is , he will continue to put his QB Jay Cutler at risk, stay unbalanced and continue to be an overrated offensive coordinator.

Others to bench- Michael Bush, Darren Mcfadden @ Denver, Brandon Jackson vs Minnesota

Get Em In

WR’s

Devonne Bess vs Pittsburgh

More so in PPR leagues but Bess makes a nice flex play this week. Brandon Marshall is going to see a lot of attention so that should leave plenty of opportunities for Bess. I see at least about 6-7 catches with about 70 yards and a possible score.

Dwayne Bowe vs Jacksonville

Bowe broke out last week for 100+ yards and two TD’s against the porous Houston pass D and now gets another great matchup against Jacksonville. Like the President of the United States would say, “Make no mistake” Bowe won’t only produce against inferior defenses, he’s too talented. There is a concern with Cassell at QB but Haley and Weiss got him involved in the gameplan last week and will continue to do so. Cassell can’t throw downfield but he certainly can throw drags and crossing routes and Bowe with his run after the catch talents is a beast on those routes. Also Bowe is great in the redzone with his size.

Johnny Knox vs Washington

Knox had a nice game last week as Cutler returned from a concussion finishing with 120 yards and 5 catches. He probably has his best matchup he has had all year this week against the Skins and their 31st pass D. Knox should have a nice day get him in there.

Danario Alexander @ TB

This kid is talented with great size at 6’5.  He arguably could have been the more talented wideout at Missouri over Jeremy Maclin. With Injuries to Mark Clayton, Laurent Robinson and Donnie Avery Alexander got the call last week and produced with 76 yards and a TD. Sam Bradford is not playing like a rookie QB right now and as you saw with Mark Clayton he likes to focus on one receiver. Alexander is an injury risk going forward with 4 knee surgeries in his career but for this week is a solid play. Alexander could prove to be a stud with that size and speed combo, he should definitely be rostered right now. Remember the young 1st year-2nd year wideouts that have produced big over the years mostly have been big physical wideouts ala Randy Moss, Marques Colston, Brandon Marshall, Calvin Johnson etc.

Deion Branch @ San Diego

Some people think last week was a fluke for Branch. It wasn’t, Branch is still a great route runner and gets open. He now has a QB in Tom Brady that can get him the ball on a consistent basis. It was also impressive to see the chemistry these two had after all the years without each other. Branch might not be a TD machine but he will get the catches and put up yards starting alongside Wes Welker. Get him in your lineups.

Mike Williams vs Arizona

Williams had a 100 yard game last week and it should continue for one more week against Arizona. Don’t bet on him for the long-term though. Sell after this week.

Steve Smith vs San Fran

Smith has been out the last two couple weeks and hasn’t done much with Jimmy Claussen under center. But with Matt Moore returning Smith will show his talents once again. In his last five games with Matt Moore at QB, Smith has averaged 88 yards and a touchdown. Get him in your lineups.

Patrick Crayton vs New England

Crayton is coming off a 100 yard game last week and it should continue this week against New England and their #29th ranked pass D. Antonio Gates will be a game time decision, Malcolm Floyd already has been ruled out and Legedu Naanee and Craig Davis are both questionable. Crayton will be Rivers #1 option this week. Get him in your lineups, he’s a nice start this week.

Nah

Steve Johnson @ Baltimore

Since Ryan Fitzpatrick has taken over at QB, Steve Johnson has been his man with 4 Td’s in his last two games. However don’t bank on that this week against Baltimore. They will give Fitzpatrick trouble allday and he will most likely will keep him out of the endzone. Leave Johnson on your bench this week.

Get Em In

TE’s

Heath Miller @ Miami

One game back with Big Ben and Miller gets back to Fantasy relevance with 50 yards and a TD. Ben likes to connect with Heath so Miller should be in your lineups almost every week going forward unless you have better options.

Ben Watson @ New Orleans

The Saints are allowing the 30th most points allowed to Tight Ends this year and Watson is having a solid year so far with 318 yards and Two TD’s. The Young Colt Mcoy will rely on Watson a lot in this game so look for Watson to finish with 5+ catches and around 60+ yards with a possible TD. Watson has always been talented he was just kinda caged in that New England offense. He is a nice start this week and a good option going forward.

Tony Moeaki vs Jacksonville

Moeaki had a great matchup last week as well vs Houston but disappointed with only 2 catches for 21 yards. However he won’t be shut down twice and will enjoy a nice game vs even an arguably worse Pass D. If you’re an Moeaki owner don’t be discouraged by last week’s effort, he will get it going this week.

Nah

Kellen Winslow vs St. Louis

This is a St. Louis Defense that ranks 3rd in points allowed to Tight Ends. Winslow also hasn’t found the endzone all year. With his catches and yards being limited this week, look for better options.

Greg Olsen vs Washington

Yes Tight Ends die with Mike Martz. He doesn’t know how to use them and right now needs Olsen to protect Jay Cutler. Olsen has back to back games without a catch, leave him on your bench.

Departure From Fantasy Island- (Week 6 Thoughts)

By: Steve DeAngelo

If you live in the Tri-State area like me and have Cablevision hopefully you didn’t stay home to watch the games this weekend as Fox was blacked out. If you did you had one game to watch from 1 O’clock-7 which was the Jets game. Hopefully, especially if you’re a Giants fan you went to a buddy’s house or to a Sports Bar because the early games were great. Two games went into OT (Miami @GB and Ravens @ Pats) and 3 others (STL 20-17, Houston 35- K.C. 31, Seattle 23 Bears 20) were 4 point games or less, even the Lions made it a game against the Giants with a chance to tie the game up on the final drive but of course as they usually do, they come up short.

The Cowboys lost the battle of the 1-3′s to the Vikings and move to 1-4 with the Giants coming to town this Monday night. There is still time but the Cowboys are going have to finish at least 8-3 to finish at 9-7, even that record might not be enough to make the playoffs. It looks like Wade Phillips time in Dallas is going to be over for sure after this year.

Another team that had a must win was the 49ers who got it and beat the Raiders to move to 1-5. 49ers are still alive to win that division, there still is a chance. Hopefully there is still a chance for Vince Young to score 35 points for me tonight in one of my leagues or else I will be 1-5 too! But, Like the 49ers winning the division this is highly unlikely as well but as long as there is a chance.

Finally Risen

Dwayne Bowe

The highly talented Dwayne Bowe finally produced like he was capable of against Houston Sunday finishing with 6 catches for 108 yards and 2 TD’s. It was against the horrific Houston secondary but at least this is a good sign. Remember Bowe would have scored last week as well if he hadn’t dropped a TD. He’s was targeted often in this game especially on crossing routes. It’s clear the Chiefs know his talent and want to get him involved as much as possible. He still may have some rough patches here and there with Matt Cassel, but some more games like this are ahead.

Pierre Garcon

It was supposed to be Pierre Garcon not Austin Collie who emerged alongside Reggie Wayne. However a rough week 1 where he dropped a couple of passes and then an injury opened up the door for Collie. We saw a little emergence last week from Garcon who is now healthy and now this week he had his best game to date. There is no denying his talent, Garcon is a physical reciever who runs good routes. He is similar to Hakeem Nicks. Peyton Manning had lost confidence in him a bit , but you can all but forget that now after last night’s amazing one handed catch. That is probably going to finish as the catch of the year. If you bought low on Garcon then props to you because Garcon should be here to stay. Collie’s value definitely takes a hit as a result.

Return of the Mac

Ben Rothlisberger

Rothlisberger returned in week 6 and played fairly well in his 2010 debut throwing for 3 TD’s with 257 yards in what was a good matchup for him against Cleveland. He clearly improves the value of Mike Wallace, Hines Ward and Tight End Heath Miller all who scored with Ben back. All are solid options in Fantasy once again. Mendenhall also gets a boost as well because he will have more TD opportunities now. Ben should remain a Mid-End #1QB the rest of the year.

Deion Branch

If you had the Savvy to go out and pick up Branch this week in your wires it turned out to be a solid pickup. Branch was the leading wideout for the Patriots finishing with 9 catches for 98 yards and a TD. Amazing, Branch has been a dormant since going to Seattle and comes back one game with Brady and puts up great numbers. Branch looked good quickly getting out of his routes and finding holes in zones. Of course it helps to have Tom Brady throwing you the ball. Deion was heavily targeted and started alongside Welker with Brandon Tate taking a backseat. It appears as of right now that Tate won’t be as valuable as we believed. Will have to wait and see, but right now Branch is clearly the guy to own, he could end up being finishing very solid and as long as he stays healthy (something he’s struggled with) he should

Don’t Panic

Jahvid Best

Best now hasn’t scored since week 2 and is averaging just 3.2 yards per carry after only 16 on 12 carries in week 6, but I wouldn’t worry. Best has a couple of things working for him now. With the Lions getting a bye in Week 7, Best now has two weeks  to rest his turf toes not toe, yes Best reportedly has turf toe in both of his toes. Also Matthew Stafford will return in week 8 which is good because Shaun Hill is going to be out for a while with a broken forearm. Now is the time to buy-low on Best especially in PPR and keeper leagues.

Hakeem Nicks

Let’s see 200 yards last week and 2 TD’s now 8 yards this week? That is why fantasy football is nuts sometimes, but no need to worry about Nicks. He is still Eli’s best option. Just put this stinker aside and look for Nicks to keep producing.

Important Happenings of Week 6

After 200 yards receiving in week 5 Malcolm Floyd had 15 yards in week 6 and left the game early. It looks like he’s out for week 7 already.

Danny Woodhead is talented. He can catch and is a nice little runner that squeezes through holes and moves the chains. If for any chance he’s available in your league go grab him, he will be especially nice in PPR leagues. He just had 100 total yards vs a very solid Ravens Defense, production can now be expected no matter the matchup.

Kevin Kolb really surprised me this week as he looked very sharp against Atlanta throwing for 326 yards and 3 TD’s. He now has looked good in back 2 back weeks. If he plays well again in week 7 it’s gonna be an extremely hard decision for Andy Reid once again. If Kolb is available go grab him he could get his job back.

DeSean Jackson got absolutely popped by Dunta Robinson (he got hurt as well) and suffered a bad concussion. It was a scary play and you never wanna see that. He says he didn’t even remember the hit, I’m sure most of you saw it if not here it is, viewers discretion is advised. Anyway it looks like Jackson could be out 3 weeks. He’s definitely out for Week 7. Obviously this hurt Kolb’s value in the short term.

Antonio Gates left early in week 6 with an ankle injury. He should be OK as he’s a pretty durable guy, but of course monitor his status.

Mike Martz needs to run the ball more than 12 times. He ran it 30+ times in week 5 against Carolina because Jay Cutler was out and he was forced to run and the Bears went wild. Matt Forte and Chester Taylor are talented runners and need to get the ball more. Also they need to run to protect Jay Cutler. He is never going to make it like this. His offensive line is not doing a good job. Like I have stated I am not a fan of Martz and believe he’s overrated. He is arrogant and stubborn and loves to pass way too much. His offenses are unbalanced and I believe they are played out. Be Wary of Cutler, Forte and any other Chicago Bear for that matter going forward until Martz stops being stubborn and starts to run the ball more.

Saints RB Chris Ivory ran for 158 yards on just 15 carries against Tampa Bay and looks to have earned himself a role even when Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush return. It would be hard for Sean Payton to leave Ivory on the bench after this performance. Ivory kinda reminds me of a Joseph Addai/Marshawn Lynch mix.

Robert Meachem now has TD’s in back to back weeks and is slowly emerging again. Meachem is arguably the most talented wideout on the Saints and remember he finished hot last year. Go grab Meachem this week if he’s on your waiver wire.

Brandon Jacobs is running with confidence again as he scored two more times this week. Ahmad Bradshaw is still the better runner and will get more carries, but Jacobs looks like he will get the goal line carries for now. He should make for a decent flex play most weeks.

Ryan Torain ran impressively against the undersized Colts Defense finishing with 100 yards and 2 TD’s on 20 carries. However after the game his knee was heavily wrapped and late in the game Keiland Williams was playing not Torain. Monitor this although it doesn’t appear to be serious.

As a Maurice Jones-Drew owner I am starting to get worried. Through 6 weeks he only has 1 100 yard game which came against the weak Colts Run D and he has only has found the endzone twice. He also is only averaging about 2 catches and has yet to go over 20 yards receiving in a game. MJD hasn’t looked as explosive as he has in the past which could be a result of the 350+ carries he got last year and his offensive line isn’t opening many holes. I would remain patient for now but there is some cause for concern. Maybe test the market and see what you can get for him.

Go Trade For

Jamal Charles before he truly explodes, Owners could frustrated with his lack of TD’s. Ocho Cinco coming off the bye week. He’s too talented not to put up some big games. C.J. Spiller, hopefully the Bills are smart and give him at least 15 touches coming back from the bye week, if they do he will show his talents. Beanie Wells, he’s gonna have some nice games ahead and it’s look like he has taken back the feature role.
