12/20 Player News

Adrian Peterson is surprisingly inactive tonight because of knee/ankle injuries. This is a big blow for owners who had thought he would play.Vikings QB Brett Favre (shoulder) has been upgraded to questionable for tonight’s game against the Bears. This puts a bit of a damper on owners who were hoping to use rookie Joe Webb at wide receiver in some leagues. Favre will throw before the game to see if he can go. We will keep you updated on this news. UPDATE: Brett Favre will start tonight for the Vikings against the Bears. Joe Webb will be the back up.

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles had to be helped off the field yesterday but the good news is that it was only leg cramps, nothing more. So he’ll suit up next week against the Titans.

Fantasy’s number one player, Arian Foster missed most of the 4th quarter Sunday due to a muscle spasm in his glute aka his butt cheek. This will be interesting to follow going into most league’s finals. We’ll keep you up to date as we receive info.

Broncos QB Tim Tebow was fairly impressive in his first start yesterday, and obviously impressed his coaches and teammates enough to earn the starting gig the last two weeks of the season. RB Knowshon Moreno left Sunday’s loss to the Raiders early on with rib injury. The severity of the injury is not yet known and we’ll update you as more information becomes available.

Colts receiver Austin Collie (concussion) has likely played his final play of the 2010 season after suffering his third concussion in the last seven weeks. Before exiting Sunday’s game he did post up the second most fantasy points at receiver in standard scoring leagues. Hopefully his recovery goes well and he’ll have a big 2011 season.

Lions QB Drew Stanton suffered a Grade 3 separation of his non-throwing shoulder during Sunday’s win in Tampa. It may require surgery but since its his non throwing shoulder he may be able to play through it especially with Shaun Hill (finger) status going forward still up in the air.

Steelers TE Heath Miller who sat out Sunday’s loss to the Jets with a concussion is expected to return to the starting lineup Thursday night against the Panthers. Miller hasn’t been consistent enough to be counted on as more than a TE2 thus far in 2010.

Cardinals receiver Early Doucet left Sunday’s game against the Panthers with an injured hip and is expected to have an MRI later today or tomorrow. At this point in the season, Doucet can’t be counted on and shouldn’t be rostered in re-draft leagues.

Bengals WR Terrell Owens is undergoing season ending surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He is out for the season but vows he will be back for the 2011 season.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (concussion) status for Sunday’s game against the Giants won’t be updated until at least Wednesday. 3rd year QB Matt Flynn played pretty well last night in a hostile environment against the leagues best team until the end where his lack of experience took over. This week is a big game for both teams as their fighting for their playoff lives.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (concussion) has been officially ruled out for Sunday nights game in New England. Matt Flynn will get the start.

TE Heath Miller (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Jets. Safety Troy Polamalu (achilles) has also been ruled out for Sunday and potentially miss the remainder of the regular season.

Vikings QB Joe Webb will get his first start Monday night with Brett Favre ruled out and Tavaris Jackson placed on IR. He’s not a start at QB this week but if your league has him eligible at wide receiver, he’s not a terrible play there especially in standard scoring leagues. Adrian Peterson (knee) returned to practice Saturday after missing the last few days and is going to be a go Monday night.

Broncos QB Kyle Orton (ribs, forearm) could get the nod Sunday but will have a short leash if he is unable to generate any type of offense. Rookie Tim Tebow would be next in line if Orton doesn’t go or is pulled.

Lions RB’s Jahvid Best (toe) and Maurice Morris (toe) were both limited in practice Friday but are listed as probable. Neither is anything more than a desperate flex play however.

Chargers Antonio Gates (foot) and Malcom Floyd (hamstring) are out for tonights game against the 49ers.

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel (appendectomy)was limited in practice Thursday for the second straight day. The feeling around Kansas City is that he’ll be able to go but it’s obvious he’s not 100% just yet. Stay tuned.

Chris Ivory (hamstring) will be reevaluated tomorrow for his hamstring injury after getting an injection to promote the healing process. His status for this week is still up in the air. Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush would shoulder the load if Ivory couldn’t go.

Percy Harvin (migraine) returned to practice Thursday and is on schedule to start Monday night against the Bears. Rookie QB Joe Webb is also slated to make his first career start against the very tough Bears defense. I wouldn’t expect a ton out of Webb, but he is wide receiver eligible in yahoo league’s so he may be an asset their, especially if he can use his feet a little bit.

Raiders TE Zach Miller (foot) practiced in full Thursday and should be good to go Sunday against the Broncos. Miller finally posted solid numbers last week grabbing four balls for 68 yards, so he’s a solid start this week now that he seems to be healthy.

The Packers will make a decision on Aaron Rodgers (concussion) status by Saturday. The feel is that he won’t be able to go but we’ll just have to wait and see. Without Rodgers, the Pack has virtually no shot at beating the Patriots. Matt Flynn would make his first career start if Rodgers couldn’t go.

Austin Collie (concussion) is going to make his return Sunday in a big divisional game against the Jags. He’s a solid WR3. Joseph Addai (neck/shoulder) and Mike Hart (ankle) were both limited at practice Thursday and are not expected to play. Javarris James and Donald Brown will share the load with Jame’s being the much better flex start over Brown.

Desean Jackson (foot) was unable to practice Thursday but proclaims he’ll start on Sunday against the Giants. We’ll have to wait on see on this one, as DJax isn’t the only one who gets to make this decision.

Cardinals Beanie Wells (flu) and Steve Breaston (knee) were both limited in practice Thursday but both are expected to play. With Tim Hightower undoubtedly the better option at this point, keep Wells on your bench, if he’s still even owned in your league.

Kyle Orton (forearm) may be unable to go Sunday and has been unable to practice the last few days. Rookie Tim Tebow has been taking all the first team reps and would start if Orton wasn’t able to go. Brandon Lloyd (calf) returned to full participation in practice Thursday and will be good to go Sunday vs. the Raiders.

Arian Foster was added to the Texans injury report with a hip issue but has not sat out any practices. This is a good sign as the injury doesn’t appear to be serious and he is expected to play in a great matchup against the Titans.

Donald Driver (quad) is not listed on the Packers injury report after sitting out practice early in the week. He’s not a good start this week unless Rodgers is able to play.

David Garrard seemed to have tweaked his hamstring during Thursday’s practice or possibly Wednesday’s and was limited today. I wouldn’t worry to much about it as he’s a fighter and their is no way he’s sitting out against the Colts with the division on the line.

Patriots receiver Deion Branch (knee) was limited in practice today but should be fine and is expected to start against Green Bay Sunday.

Adrian Peterson (knee) was added to the Vike’s injury report Thursday but it is not thought of as serious and he should be good to go Monday night against the Bears.

12/15 Early Player News

Giants wideout Steve Smith is done for the season with a knee injury. We reported yesterday that it was a hammy issue but that was obviously incorrect but those were original reports. Mario Manningham (hip) is expected to return to practice by Thursday and hopes to play Sunday against the Eagles. The Giants need him back in this huge divisional game.

Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw, who suffered a wrist injury Monday night against the Vikings says it is of no concern and he will be out their Sunday against the Eagles. I tend to believe what he says and he is a must start.

Browns QB Colt McCoy (ankle) is expected to start Sunday according to coach Mangini saying he will get a “decent amount of first team snaps today” in practice. Expect him to return this week.

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel (appendectomy) returned to practice Wednesday and looks on target to start Sunday.

Aaron Rodgers (concussion) missed Wednesday’s practice and Sunday’s status is still uncertain.  UPDATE: Head Coach Mike McCarthy said during Wednesday’s press conference that he doesn’t think Aaron Rodgers will be able to play Sunday vs. the Patriots. This is a big blow to the Packs playoff hopes if he does indeed sit. Matt Flynn would take the reigns in that scenario.

Cowboys RB Marion Barber practiced Wednesday after missing two weeks with a calf injury. His return obviously hurts Tashard Choice’s value going forward.

Colts wideout Austin Collie (concussion) is expected to practice Wednesday and should be on track to return for Sunday’s big matchup with the Jaguars.

Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) missed Wednesday’s practice and his status for week 15 is uncertain. It is now looking like he’ll sit out tomorrow night’s game vs. the 49ers since he was unable to go today. Act like he’s not going to go and make other arrangements.

Lions WR Shaun Hill (finger) has a very realistic chance to start Sunday against the Bucs. Hill is definitely an upgrade over Drew Stanton, however Stanton has proven he can hold his own out their.

Eagles receiver Desean Jackson is listed as day to day with a sprained foot according to coach Andy Reid. If Jackson is unable to go Sunday that would be a big blow to the Eagles going against the Giants in a big game that could ultimately decide the division. If he can’t go Jason Avant would step into the starting lineup and would have some flex value this week.

Player News 12/14

Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson is not on this weeks injury report and will be available in week 15. TE Antonio Gates (foot) didn’t practice Tuesday and his week 15 status is still unknown.

Bills receiver Lee Evans (ankle) has been placed on IR thus ending his season.

Vikings QB Tavaris Jackson suffered a turf toe injury and his week 15 status is not yet known. With Brett Favre also ailing, rookie Joe Webb would get the start Sunday unless they sign a veteran immediately. WR Percy Harvin (migraines) is expected to return to practice by Thursday but they haven’t quite committed to him playing this week just yet.

Steelers TE Heath Miller (Concussion) has passed all his neurological tests and is expected to play this week against the Jets.

Giants wideout Steve Smith injured his hamstring Monday in a win over the Vikings and the Giants believe it is very unlikely that he plays this week against the Eagles. Fellow receiver Mario Manningham (hip) is very unlikely to play as well this week against the Eagles in a game that could decide the division. Derek Hagan and Hakeem Nicks will start.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers(concussion) is listed as day to day but he believes he’ll be able to go Sunday in a big game against the Patriots. If Rodgers were to miss another game that would be a severe blow to their playoff hopes with the Saints at 10-3 and the Giants at 9-4. If Rodgers can’t play then Matt Flynn would make his first career start.

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel (appendectomy) is listed as day to day but says he plans to play Sunday against the Rams in a game they must win with San Diego hot on their heels now. They need him back as coach Haley seems to have zero confidence in Brodie Croyle doing much of anything.

Browns QB Colt McCoy (ankle) is very optimistic he will be ready to go this week. It looks like Coach Mangini is feeling McCoy is ready to get back in their as well but we’ll have to see how he practices the rest of the week.

Jets RB Shonn Greene suffered a neck injury during Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins and his week 15 status is not yet known. We’ll monitor this throughout the week but even if he can go, he has to go up against the league’s best run defense in the Steelers.

Saints rookie RB Chris Ivory suffered a hamstring injury Sunday but it not considered serious. Luckily for the Saints Pierre Thomas returned but thats not good news for Ivory has he could start to lose carries to Thomas if this injury lingers. We’ll keep you updated on his status as the week goes along.

Promising Seahawks receiver Deon Butler suffered a devastating leg injury during Sunday’s loss to the 49ers and his season is over. He has been diagnosed with a leg fracture and he will need many months of offsesason rehab to hopefully be ready for the start of the 2011 season.
