FantasySavvy 2012: Week 9 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em

As seen on FantayPros911.com. Make sure to check there for tons of great fantasy info. Despite the storm and it’s effects we should have a radio show tomorrow evening and have our rankings out on Saturday night. Thanks to all the readers.

First, I want to say I hope that all our readers affected by Sandy are safe. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. This storm was truly devastating to many people including ravaging my home state of New Jersey. It is very sad to see areas that I experienced many memories, now destroyed. The Jersey Shore is a special place to many and it may not be the same for a while. I also feel for the people in Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island, Maryland, Connecticut, and all the other areas that were severely affected.

As we look to bounce back from this tragedy, I know many people will be looking to escape from all the stories on the news and get their mind away from thinking about the storm. This is where sports is great, it helps us get our minds off the present conditions for a little while and enjoy something we love. In a time like this Fantasy Football can seem truly insignificant, but at the same time it provides a good outlet to make things seem normal again, even for a few hours. Due to the storm, this weeks start ‘em, sit ‘em will be somewhat of an express version. I have also been affected by the storm and haven’t been able to prepare for this article as I normally would have. If you guys have any questions you can always hit me up at SteveDeAngelo@gmail.com or @FantasySavvy on twitter. Everybody keep your heads up and enjoy this weekend of Football. God Bless.

You won’t see the obvious names on here, that would be pointless. Maybe occasionally to give you a reminder, but rather we are looking to identify some guys that you may be on the fence with and encourage you to either start or sit them. Matchups will be broken down, stats will be used, some projections will be provided and some “gut” feeling will be mixed in. But when it comes down to the come down, it’s your “gut” you need to roll with.

*Players listed in order of projected effectiveness in the start ‘em category and ineffectiveness in the sit ‘em category.

Quarterbacks

Start ‘Em

Cam Newton @ Washington Redskins

Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

I mentioned last week that this is the perfect time to trade for Cam Newton. He just went through a brutal stretch in his schedule playing Dallas, Seattle and the Bears, but now his schedule eases up bigtime. In one of my leagues, I just saw him get traded for Matt Schaub! Make sure you put out some offers before Sunday and if you acquire Cam, start him Sunday. He is going to have a solid finish to the season.

Matt Schaub vs Buffalo

Schaub hasn’t been great this year, but against Buffalo and their swiss defense, he’s a very solid play. Look for close to 300 yards passing and at least 2 TD’s.

Michael Vick @ New Orleans

I may be crazy, but I am contemplating starting Vick over Aaron Rodgers this week. The New Orleans defense is that awful. They are giving up the most fantasy points and are on track to being one of the worst defenses of all-time. Vick is battling for his job, but expect him to produce nicely in this game.

Sit ‘Em

Christian Ponder @ Seattle

Ponder was hot a few weeks ago, but has now has come back to reality. He needs to be benched in all formats.

Matt Hasselbeck vs Chicago

Hasselbeck will continue to start with Jake Locker out, but stay away from him against Chicago.

Joe Flacco @ Cleveland

Cleveland’s secondary is currently ranked 28th in points allowed to QB’s, but remember Joe Haden was out for four weeks. Since his return they have been stingy against QB’s and completely shut down Phillip Rivers last week. This was a Browns secondary that was one of the best statistically last year.  Flacco has also returned to his normal shenanigans, keep him on your benches.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

Jamaal Charles @ San Diego

Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs

Normally a player of Charles’ caliber would not be on this list, but since Charles has struggled in his last two games and got just five carries last week, you may need to be reminded to start him. Against the Raiders I believe the Chiefs rested Charles after the game got away, knowing they had a short-week ahead of them. Expect Charles to be the focal point of the offense against San Diego and to produce. Charles will most likely get around 20-25 carries tonight. Make sure he is active, you can never bench a player as talented as him.

Willis McGahee @ Cincy

Continue to roll out Willis in matchups like this. Cincy has been bad against the run ranking 27th in Fantasy points allowed to RB’s, so McGahee will enjoy a nice day. The Broncos have a very nice schedule ahead of them, so he also is a nice trade target.

Joique Bell @ Jacksonville

Bell surprisingly got the majority of the second half touches last week against Seattle and showed his versatility. With Mikel LeShoure questionable for this week, Bell could get a boatload of touches against a weak Jacksonville defense. This looks like a good plug and play for Week 9.

Sit ‘Em

Alex Green vs Arizona

Alex Green is about to lose his job, this guy just has not taken advantage of his opportunities. Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy has already said that James Starks will get more looks this week. Trade Green if you can, because after this week he may have no more value.

Donald Brown vs Miami

Brown is back healthy, but it looks now that he and Vick Ballard will share the backfield. This matchup is also rough this week against a stout Miami run D so keep Brown benched.

Chris Johnson vs Chicago

Johnson has succeeded in tough matchups vs the Texans and Steelers, but Chicago is a different animal to me. I think he struggles mightily in this game and is held under 80 total yards without a score.

Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em

Steve Smith @ Washington

After doing nothing for consecutive weeks, it was good to see Smith succeed in a tough matchup against the Bears by going over 100 yards. This week he is a must-start against the Skins. He will abuse their secondary.

Dwayne Bowe @ San Diego

With Brady Quinn at QB Bowe is hard to trust, but with Cassel playing tonight Bowe needs to be back in Fantasy lineups. The Chargers are also 10th worst in points given up to Fantasy WR’s.

Denarius Moore vs Tampa Bay

Denarius Moore, Oakland Raiders

Denarious has been beasting of late finding the endzone for three straight weeks. Palmer will have success against Tampa Bay and their vunerable secondary ranked third worst in fantasy points allowed to WR’s, so get Moore in your lineups.

Sit ‘Em

Torrey Smith @ Cleveland

I mentioned the return of Joe Haden to the Browns secondary and how it spells bad news for Joe Flacco. Well, Haden could be lined up against Smith for much of this matchup. Reserve him.

Malcom Floyd vs Kansas City

I know owners sometimes get giddy and want to start their players in primetime games, but you need to be patient. Floyd has one TD all season, Rivers has not looked good and Floyd will be matched up with Chiefs stud CB Brandon Flowers. Be weary of starting Floyd tonight.

Kenny Britt vs Chicago

Britt was held under 40 yards receiving in favorable matchups against Buffalo and Indy, so no reason to expect him to succeed against Chicago. Britt is still working his way back from his injuries and has not looked like the same player to me.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Jermaine Gresham vs Denver

Good spot to start Gresham here coming off their bye and facing Denver who are 4th worst at defending the Tight End position.

Greg Olsen @ Washington

Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers

The Skins defense is hot garbage as we all know, so Olsen has a great shot to thrive in this game.

Dwayne Allen vs Miami

With Coby Fleener out abut two weeks, Allen has full reigns at Tight End for the Colts. If you need a tight end this week, the talented rookie is a decent option.

Sit ‘Em

Dennis Pitta @ Cleveland

Maybe some owners are expecting to bounce back after the Ravens bye week, but don’t expect it to happen against the Browns who are third best against Fantasy Tight Ends.

Martellus Bennett vs Pittsburgh

Bennett has worn down after a strong start to the season and can’t be trusted against Pittsburgh. Wait for him to show up once again before putting him back in lineups.

Brandon Pettigrew @ Jacksonville

Sit the overrated Pettigrew against the Jaguars who are allowing the 5th fewest points to Fantasy Tight Ends.

IDP’s

Start ‘Em

Chad Greenway @ Seattle

Richard Sherman vs Minnesota

Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks

Akeem Ayers vs Chicago

Sit ‘Em

Antrel Rolle vs Pittsburgh

Greg Hardy @ Washington

Patrick Peterson @ Green Bay

FantasySavvy 2012: Week 8 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em

As seen on Fp911.com, Make sure to check there for tons of great Fantasy Football information. Kevin Lewis’ Fantasy Five will be out Saturday and my Rankings will be as well. Also look out for our next radio show at blogtalkradio.com/fantasysavvy. Thanks.

There are only six or seven weeks left until the Fantasy Playoffs depending on when your league starts them up, but either way the time is soon approaching. If you are sitting there at 3-4 or 2-5, I wouldn’t give up hope yet. There is still enough time to right the ship and get into the postseason. For some owners you can not afford to wait for Cam Newton or Darren McFadden to get it going, you need solutions now! Waiting for these players to get back to Fantasy relevance again while you continue to rack up losses can destroy your team. At some point you might have to start playing matchups with lesser named players. For example, this week, Cam Newton faces the Bears on the road, whileSam Bradford takes on the Patriots. Nuts to start Bradford? I don’t think so. Even Brandon Weeden seems almost more attractive than Cam as he goes up against the Chargers. Cam Newton and the Panthers are a mess right now and if you have Cam on you fantasy squads your team is most likely suffering as a result.

So my advice to you is don’t give up, keep grinding, and don’t be afraid to play a good matchup over a high draft pick that just isn’t producing.  Stay on that waiver wire,  look to make a trade to shake things up and try your best to get your squads back into gear. As always if you guys have any questions, you are more than welcome to shoot me an email at SteveDeAngelo@gmail.com or @FantasySavvy on twitter.

Start ‘Em

Ben Roethlisberger vs Washington

The Skins have allowed at least two passing TD’s to every QB this season except for Josh Freeman and Eli Manning . They also have allowed every QB they have faced to go over 300 yards passing with the exception of Freeman who threw for 299! The Steelers will move the ball and Ben has a great opportunity for a nice day here. Look for close to 300 yards passing with at least two TD’s.

Andrew Luck @ Tennessee

Although Luck ran for two TD’s last week, he does not have a passing TD in two weeks. Expect that to change Sunday against the Titans who are allowing the 6th most points to Fantasy QB’s. Reggie Wayne faced off against Antonio Cromartie and Joe Haden the last two weeks, but the Titans have nobody who can cover him. Look for Luck to find his best target often and for Luck to get back on track throwing the football.

Sam Bradford vs New England (Game in London)

Like last season the Patriots secondary is once again one of the worst in the NFL. Only New Orleans is allowing more fantasy points to QB’s. In their last five games the Patriots have allowed 13 touchdowns and  four 300-yard passers. Normally I wouldn’t touch Sam Bradford with a ten foot cheesestick, but even he can take advantage of this matchup.

Sit ‘Em

Josh Freeman @ Minnesota

I am not buying Josh Freeman just yet. He tore up New Orleans last week, but everybody does. The week before he succeeded against Kansas City, but they have been putrid overall as well. Freeman has also struggled in his two road games this year averaging just 175 yards while throwing  just 3 TD’s with 3 Int’s. I think Minnesota will get pressure on Freeman and force him into a rough game. Also these Thursday Night games have been  low scoring all year as they are averaging eight points less than Sunday games. If Freeman gets it done this week, I MIGHT start to believe in him, but I doubt he does.

Matt Stafford vs Seattle

What is going on with this Detroit passing game that saw Stafford throw for 41 TD’s and and over 5,000 yards last season? First, Stafford isn’t getting much protection, second teams are now coming up with new gameplans to take away Calvin Johnson and third Stafford’s mechanics have been poor. I think eventually the Lions will pick up the pace, but it’s hard to expect it to start this week. Seattle is allowing an average of  just 14 fantasy points per game to QB’s.

Cam Newton @ Chicago

Last time I put Cam on this list, he proved me wrong against Atlanta, but I feel pretty secure in saying that he will struggle vs the Bears. Cam isn’t playing well, but at the same time he has faced Seattle and Dallas in his last two games, two teams who are top-five in pass defense. After this week, it may be time to buy-low on Cam as he goes onto face Washington, Denver and Tampa Bay in his next three games. His playoff schedule also looks good going against Atlanta, San Diego and Oakland in Weeks 14, 15 and 16. After facing the Bears this week Cam will have endured three of the roughest matchups a Fantasy QB can face, but the road gets much easier from there on out and I expect him to turn things around. Just think about sitting him this week.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

Chris Johnson vs Indianapolis

Johnson exploded last week against the Bills for 195 yards with two TD’s and has been showing signs of life. The Bills defense was a swiss  cheese matchup, but Johnson also excelled against the Texans and Steelers defenses respectively. The Titans will be in this game and Johnson should get plenty of touches. The Colts rush D played well last week, but that was against a banged up Trent Richardson. The week before Shonn Greene gashed them and they have struggled most of the season so expect CJ to keep up his good play in Week eight.

Willis McGahee vs New Orleans

The Saints vs. Broncos game is going to be filled with a ton of points and all your players on these teams should be in your lineups. McGahee is no exception. Manning will be utilizing Willis often and I expect him to find the endzone this week. The Saints have been the worst at defending Fantasy RB’s allowing 34 points per game so get Willis in those lineups.

Doug Martin @ Minnesota

Martin ran fairly well last week against New Orleans and even though that was a dream matchup, he got the job done running for 86 yards and a score. The Vikings just allowed waiver wire Hall of Famer LaRod Stephens-Howlinggo over 100 yards on them and with a short week and little time to rest, facing Martin won’t be a easy task.LeGarrette Blount might of also played himself out of goal line carries after being stuffed three straight times on the goal line against the Saints. Blount ran with no attitude whatsoever and Martin will now most likely be called upon in all goal line situations in this game.

Sit ‘Em

LaRod Stephens-Howling vs San Francisco

Howling was one of the top pickups this week, but don’t expect to him to produce against the 49ers. Keep him benched. Kind of sucks when you pick a  guy up and then really can’t start him huh? You could be cutting him after this week!

Michael Turner @ Philadelphia

The defense wasn’t the problem in Philly so not sure why Andy Reid felt he had to fire Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo. Maybe he’s just looking for a scapegoat or maybe he really didn’t get along with the guy. Anyway, Turner always seems to struggle in tough matchups and the Eagles have been stingy against the run this season ranked 8th best in fantasy points allowed to RB’s. I see a very slow week for Turner, it could be one of those 16 carry, 40-yard, scoreless games.

Steven Jackson vs New England

Still have this guy? I told you to trade him six weeks ago! This is the last time he will be on this list. Daryl Richardson is now cutting heavily into his touches and will remain a factor. The Pats can’t stop the pass, but they have only allowed one 100-yard rusher all year and Jackson sure as schnikes won’t be the second!

Wide Recievers

Start ‘Em

Jeremy Kerley vs Miami

Kerley had the best game of his career against the Pats going over 100 yards receiving and I feel safe using Kerley against Miami who have allowed the 8th most fantasy points to WR’s. Kerley is a good route-runner and Sanchez‘ play has picked up the past few weeks. Look for Kerley to produce again for your fantasy teams.

Josh Gordon vs San Diego

With 22 targets and 4 TD’s in his last three games, Gordon has to be in your lineups until proven otherwise. Weeden has the arm to get the speedster the ball deep and Gordon continues to get open. The matchup is also favorable as San Diego is allowing the the 6th most fantasy points to WR’s.

Kenny Britt vs Indianapolis

Britt failed in a good matchup against Buffalo last week, but let’s throw him out there again in another nice matchup. This week at home I say he gets the job done. As noted many times, Indy’s defense is not good!

Sit ‘Em

Steve Smith @ Chicago

Smith continues to underwhelm each week and as Cam goes he will go. With the Bears and Charles “Peanut” Tillman coming up, Smith needs to be on benches if you can afford to do so. Like with Cam, Smith is another good buy-low candidate.

Dwayne Bowe vs Oakland

Matt Cassel is healthy coming back from his concussion, but Romeo Crennel has chosen to go with Brady Quinn. I own Bowe in the FP911 staff league and I am going to bench him for Denarius Moore. I just don’t trust Brady Quinn, how can you, the guy has done nothing to earn our trust. Hopefully he doesn’t sap Jamaal Charles‘ value as well. Bowe and Cassel have had a nice chemistry, but we need to wait and see if Quinn can get him the rock. I am scared about the Chiefs altogether right now. Hopefully Quinn can be decent.

Hakeem Nicks vs Dallas

Nicks is finally feeling healthy and looks to be almost past his injuries, but I would be cautious about starting him against Dallas. The Cowboys are 5th best against Fantasy WR’s and contained Nicks in their Week 1 matchup holding him to just 38 yards on four catches.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Heath Miller vs Washington

Gotta stick with big Heath once again this week as he looks to keep it rolling against the Skins. Good chance for him to do so because the Skins are allowing the 3rd most fantasy points to TE’s.

Dustin Keller vs Miami

I have a “gut” feeling that Keller is going to finish the year very strong. If he’s still available in your league go snatch him up. I know it was against the Pats and they can’t stop anything,  butI just liked the way Keller looked. He has always been one of the more athletic Tight Ends in the league and I believe Sporano is going to involve him heavily into the gameplan. I expect another quality game against Miami.

Joel Dreessen vs New Orleans

Suprisingly, New Orleans has been good against Tight Ends, ranked 4th best, but I like this spot for Joel. Again I am starting everybody I possibly can in this matchup betweeen these two teams. I even like Jacob Tamme, but of the two, I believe Dreessen will be the one to find the endzone and be the better play.

Sit ‘Em

Jared Cook vs Indianapolis

The Colts are having a tough time stopping any other position, but they are the best against Tight Ends allowing an average of just six points per game. Cook isn’t as good as advertised anyway, so don’t be hesitant to drop him.

Jermichael Finley vs Jacksonville

If I hear “Finley has all the talent in the world” one more time, I am going to blackout! No, the guy doesn’t have all the talent in the world. He has hands of stone and is vastly overrated. It’s almost time to give up on this guy. He’s droppable at this point. Finley does have some talent, but the Packers are just stacked with options and he will remain inconsistent.

Vernon Davis @ Arizona

Back to back horrid weeks for Davis and he wasn’t even targeted last week. Unfortunately we saw these types of performances last year from Davis. It’s not his fault, blame the offensive coordinator and Alex Smith. The 49ers will start getting the ball in their best receivers hands again eventually, but they may find it tough against Arizona who are allowing just eight points a game to Tight Ends. With Smith’s recent play and Arizona’s tough D on TE’s, consider sitting Davis in Week eight.

IDP’s

Start ‘Em

Aldon Smith @ Arizona

This is a great spot to start Smith who has 5.5 sacks on the year thus far. The Cardinals have allowed the most sacks in the league and Smith is a QB hunter. Get him in your lineups.

Mark Barron @ Minnesota

Barron has had a solid rookie campaign with 34 solo tackles and seven pass deflections. Expect Barron to rack up the tackles in this matchup as the Vikings pound the run.

Sit ‘Em

DeAngelo Hall @ Pittsburgh

As I’ve stated before, Hall struggles against quality QB’s and WR’s. He won’t do much against Big BenMike Wallace and Antonio Brown.

Cortland Finnegan vs St. Louis

Finnegan is most likely going to defend Wes Welker in this matchup and I don’t think he fares well. He may get a few tackles, but the interceptions and deflections opportunities will be limited. Keep him benched for one more week.

FantasySavvy 2012: Week 6, Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

As seen on FP911.com. If you have not been there already you need to check it out, tons of great and free information as well. Look for my Rankings late Sat Night, Sun Morning and check into our radio show tonight at 12est directly following the Thursday Night game at Blogtalkradio.com/FantasySavvy.

Fantasy Football can be great at times but also depressing, either way you need to keep grinding. Keep active on that wire. Keep following us here at FP911. Even if you have a losing record there is plenty of time to dig your way out. One good pickup or trade can change the direction of your team. If you have a winning record don’t sleep, always look for ways to improve your team. Think ahead, think outside the box. I wish you guys the best and hope you finish strong. If you guys have any questions feel free to email me at SteveDeAngelo@gmail.com. I will respond and help you the best I can.

Start ‘Em

Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger @ Tennessee

Big Ben put up a doughnut in the TD department last week at home against Philly (correction, today he was awarded a TD on the Mendenhall lateral!), but that was a tough matchup. That’s kind of the way Big Ben is, some good weeks, some bad, that is why he’s taken later in Fantasy Drafts. But this is a week to use him against the Titans and their swiss cheese D which is allowing the 26th most points to Fantasy QB’s. Christian Ponder excelled pretty well against them last week so Ben and his trio of Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown and Heath Miller should as well. Start Ben tonight with full confidence and expect around 250 yards with 2-3 TD’s.

Kevin Kolb vs Buffalo

Man, I am really thinking about starting Kevin Kolb over Tony Romo in one of my leagues this week. Just how do you justify that? Kevin Kolb? But looking at the matchups, Romo faces Baltimore, hasn’t looked good so far this season and Kolb is going against the team that is allowing the most points to Fantasy QB’s in Buffalo. The Cards have allowed the most sacks so far this year and we saw Kolb get dropped at least eight or nine times last week, but this is just a great matchup at home against an inferior defense. Sad to say, but it looks like I will be rolling with Kolb over Romo! I know my brother, who is my partner in that league and a Cowboy fan won’t be happy about that!

Christian Ponder @ Washington

We rolled with Ponder last week and he paid off, of course Percy Harvin continues to make look Ponder better than he is, but Christian is getting the job done. He should remain fantasy relevant for another week at least as they matchup with the Skins and their brutal secondary which is allowing the the 4th most points to Fantasy QB’s. Ponder should be throwing quite often in this one and as long as he has Percy to pick up that cognYAC for him, Ponder stats should be solid again this week. Look for 230-260 yards throwing with at least 2 TD’s.

Sit ‘Em

Ryan Fitzpatrick @ Arizona

I think Fitzpatrick is starting to head towards his typical mid to late season slide. Either way you can’t use him against Arizona who are allowing just 16 points a game to Fantasy QB’s. With five Int’s in his last two games, stay away from Fitz especially on the road in this tough matchup.

Matt Stafford @ Philly

Stafford has yet throw for two TD’s in a game this season and has just three TD’s overall. Something is going on in Detroit and it probably won’t improve against Philly who are allowing just 14 points a game to Fantasy QB’s. Maybe they figured some things out during their bye week, but if you have a better option I would pass on Stafford in Week 6.

Joe Flacco vs Dallas

After a hot start, Flacco has slowed the last two weeks with just one TD and was held under 200 yards passing against Kansas City last week. Dallas’ secondary had a bit of a setback against the Bears, but I think their corners will match up well with Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin and help slow down this Ravens passing attack. Look for Flacco to finish with modest numbers against the Cowboys who are allowing the 5th fewest points to Fantasy QB’s.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons

Michel Turner vs Oakland

Turner is undervalued every season, but continues to stay healthy, go over 1,000 yards and finish with double digit TD’s every year. He is obviously never a threat in the pass game and doesn’t offer much upside, but this guy is great when the matchup is right. Just expect a few duds during the year when he faces a good defense. Against Oakland, this is a matchup he can exploit. The Falcons will be moving the ball all day and Turner will have plenty of chances to churn out yards. He will also most likely find the endzone once or twice.

Willis McGahee @ San Diego

McGahee had a game to forget last week with a big drop on a 4th and one and then a fumble late just as the Broncos were ready to make it a game against the Patriots. This week I believe he puts it behind him and gets the job done against the Chargers. San Diego is allowing the 20th most points to Fantasy Backs and I expect Willis to finish near 100 yards and find the endzone on Monday night.

Rashard Mendenhall @ Tennessee

Mendenhall returned last week from his ACL injury and looked impressive running for 68 yards on 13 carries while catching three passes for 33 yards. His receiving TD was taken away today, which should impact a ton of fantasy scores, hopefully not yours! But If he looks anything like he did last week, expect a very nice performance on Thursday night. The Titans are brutal at defending every fantasy position and are allowing a 144 yards a game on the ground. Get Mendy in your lineups and expect him to produce.

Sit ‘Em

C.J. Spiller/Fred Jackson @ Arizona

Another week another tough matchup for these two talented backs. Not are only they both hurting each other’s value, these matchups are killing them as well. Arizona boasts the 4th best defense in points allowed to Fantasy Backs, so keep Spiller and Jackson on your benches again this week.

Steven Jackson @ Miami

Did you trade him yet? Or are you still suffering? This guy doesn’t score! And will likely not find paydirt against Miami either. Keep him benched. This is the last time Jackson will be on my sit ‘em list. Go trade this guy now!

Ahmad Bradshaw vs San Francisco

Bradshaw had a joyous game against the Browns last week, going over 200 yards rushing, but you need to bench him this week if you can. As we all know the 49ers are elite against the run. This team allowed 3 rushing TD’s last season and are number one against the run again this year. Bradshaw will likely be held under 50 yards rushing and without a score, don’t be tempted, bench him.

Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em

Mike Wallace @ Tennessee

Just two catches for 17 yards last week for Wallace, but don’t let that deter you from starting Wallace this week. This is basically one of my few reminders, Wallace is a no brainer this week against the Titans.

Andre Roberts vs Buffalo

Andre Roberts, Arizona Cardinals

If I like Kolb this week, that means I am going to like his Wides. Andre Roberts has been impressive this year with 4 TD’s so far this season. Roberts also has seen 19 targets in his last two games as his chemistry with Kolb is improving. The Cards run game is a mess so look for Kolb to pass plenty (threw it 52 times last week) and for Roberts to be a good play this week.

Jeremy Kerley vs Indianapolis

With Santonio Holmes out and Stephen Hill questionable again this week, look for Kerley to remain Sanchez’ best target. Kerley saw nine targets last week and caught five of them for 94 yards in a tough matchup against an elite secondary in Houston. He should produce again in a much easier matchup against the Colts who are allowing the 5th most points to Fantasy WR’s.

Sit ‘Em

Denarius Moore @ Atlanta

I like Moore and think he will end up finishing with a pretty good fantasy season, I just don’t trust Carson Palmer against Atlanta on the road. The Falcons are are allowing the fewest points to Fantasy WR’s at just 24 points per game. Moore will probably be targeted a lot in this game, I just don’t expect those passes to come very close to Moore. You are probably looking at a five catch 40 yard game from Moore, something along those lines.

Torrey Smith vs Dallas

I believe Flacco is going to struggle in this game as he is coming back down to earth a bit and that will mean tough sledding for Smith. The Cowboys secondary had one off game so far against Chicago, but Corners Brandon Carr and Mo Claiborne will be up and ready for this matchup coming off the bye.

Vincent Jackson vs Kansas City

I trust Vincent Jackson, I just don’t trust Josh Freeman. This matchup also isn’t as good as it would have appeared a few weeks ago. The Chiefs defense is starting to play and their secondary has allowed just 34 points to Fantasy WR’s the last two weeks. They shut down Flacco and his passing attack and they will at least contain the Bucs passing attack. Brandon Flowers is one of the of the best corners in the league and has started to show why the past few weeks. Vjax likely struggles in this game.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Heath Miller @ Tennessee

Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers

Get all your Steelers in tonight and Heath Miller is no exception. Ben has been targeting Miller a ton this year and the Heath Bar Crunch should enjoy a nice game Thursday Night against the Titans who are allowing the most points to Fantasy TE’s.

Brent Celek vs Detroit

Celek has been kind of quiet the past few weeks with just around 100 yards in his last three games and has only scored once this year. But the matchups haven’t been fully favorable and Vick has been struggling as a result. This week it eases up a bit against Detroit who are allowing the 6th most points to Fantasy TE’s. I expect Celek to catch around five or six passes for 60-75 yards and a possible score.

Kyle Rudolph @ Washington

Rudolph hasn’t been racking up a lot of yards but he does have four TD”s in his last four games as Ponder loves to look for the guy in the endzone. The matchup is right here to use Rudolph against the Skins who are allowing an average of 20 points per game to the Tight End position.

IDP

Start ‘Em

William Moore, Atlanta Falcons

William Moore vs Oakland

Moore is having a breakout year for Atlanta in 2012 with 26 tackles, two Int’s, a fumble forced, a fumble recovery and four pass deflections. He should rack up the tackles against Oakland as they run Darren Mcfadden a bunch and has a good chance to pick off the inaccurate Carson Palmer. Oakland has given up the 8th most fantasy points to Safety’s this season so get Moore in your lineups.

Kyle Williams @ Arizona

Good spot to start the Defensive Tackle here against Arizona who have allowed the most sacks in the league. Williams also has 3.5 sacks this season and five tackles for a loss. Williams should get you favorable fantasy numbers as he should drop Kolb at least once.

Sit ‘Em

Antoine Cason vs Denver

Cason has been one of the better Fantasy DB’s this season with 21 tackles, seven pass deflections and two int’s. I just hate starting any corner against Peyton Manning who is starting to return to the top of his game. I don’t believe Cason will have many opportunities to produce, so keep him reserved.

Justin Houston @ TB

Houston now has 11.5 sacks in his last nine regular-season games after sacking Joe Flacco twice last week. The Bucs however  are not allowing many sacks because Greg Schiano loves to run the football. Houston’s sack chances will be limited this week.

Weekend Update with Kevin Lewis

-Kenny Britt looks like he’s lost for the season. It looked like Britt was going to make his way into the top receivers’ discussion. He was having a great year and now it looks like he’s lost for the year.

-With the way Ryan Matthews is running the ball, I think he is the featured back for now. Tolbert will still get some touches on third down in passing situations but Matthews will get the bulk. Matthews had 25 touches to Tolbert’s seven in week 3. Expect that to continue.

-How does Adrian Peterson get only 17 carries in a game where they were up 20? Adrian Peterson is the best RB on the planet. He was averaging five yards a carry. McNabb is not a good QB. He did very little in the game. Why not feed Peterson? Yes I’m an angry Peterson owner in fantasy.

-Rashard Mendenhall is having a rough go of it this year. He only rushed for 37 yards against a quite suspect Colts defense. 66 yards is his game high for this year. The Steelers offensive line looks quite bad, and I think it’s panic time.

-Chris Johnson is going through the same thing Rashard Mendenhall is going through. I’m not sure how much of this has to do with the contract squabble, and subsequent missed time, but Johnson has been bad. He had another bad performance against the Denver Broncos and he gets to see the Steelers and Browns run defenses in the next two weeks. I’m not sure it’s time to sell on CJ, but it might be close.

-Wes Welker has put up impressive numbers the first three weeks, and obviously a key part of yesterday’s Patriots gameplan was to get him the ball. He was targeted 20 times on 45 Brady pass attempts. With Hernandez out, Welker should be a great play the next few weeks.

-With Lee Evans out, Torrey Smith stepped in and was impressive. He had five catches for 152 yards and three touchdowns. He caught three TDs on his first three catches. That’s very Mike Vrabel like. If he provides for the Ravens in being an effective deep threat, then it should help everyone on that Ravens offense.

-Six interceptions for Philip Rivers so far. He doesn’t look all that good, and the Chargers look like they usually do early in seasons. I don’t know if this is a trend but Rivers leads the league in interceptions. Keep an eye on that.

-At what point do Donovan Mcnabb and Matt Cassel get benched? Both are struggling and in the Vikings case they have a young first round QB waiting for his opportunity.

-Mark Ingram finally reached the endzone this weekend against the Houston Texans. As an unconvinced Ingram owner in fantasy I hope he does some more of that so I can start him in future.

- Well, so much for James Starks being a clearly better back than Ryan Grant. Grant put the kibosh on that line of thinking this week when he carried the ball 17 times for 92 yards. Starks averaged less than a yard per carry and was stifled for much of the afternoon. I have a feeling it’s going to be a long year for every one of us who starts either one of them.

-If you have Mark Sanchez and a “better” QB, but on a shaky team, try to trade that QB and improve your team. Why? Sanchez looks markedly better (albeit it’s to be noted he started off hot the last 2 years and faded), and right now he’s the only form of offense the Jets have. The running game is very uninspiring at this point. Albeit the protection is spotty Sanchez has gone over 300 yards in three straight games including 2 TDs in each contest (1 rushing as well, 7 total). As long as things are going the way they are, Sanchez is a good start.

Week 15 Waiver Adds

QB

Donavan McNabb- McNabb responded well to a potential benching if he didn’t perform against the Bucs. They came up just short of a victory but McNabb was solid. He gets the Cowboys and Jags the next two weeks so he’s worth a look if you’re hurting at quarterback.

Jason Campbell- Campbell played very well against the Jaguars Sunday and they came up just short of a win. Over the past two weeks he has averaged 21.9 fantasy points and has two good matchups coming up. He has Zach Miller back and Louis Murphy was very involved as well so he has some weapons along with Jacoby Ford. He has the Broncos and the Colts the next two weeks so like McNabb, he’s a solid fill in if you’re in need.

RB

Tim Hightower- Timmy boy was the most productive back for the Cards in Sunday’s blowout win over the woeful Broncos. He had 148 yards and two touchdowns in the win and seems to be the guy at this point in the Cardinals backfield. He gets the Panthers next week who have just been getting destroyed by running backs as of late so he makes for a must start RB2 and a must own if he’s still available.

Ryan Torain- Many people including myself had written this guy off on making an impact the rest of the way but boy was I wrong. He had a monster game Sunday against the Bucs defense, torching them for 172 yards. He has two great matchups the next two weeks against Dallas and the Jaguars so if someone felt like me and dropped him, go get him immediately.

Javarris James- We highlighted him last week as the goal line back, but in Week 14 he was the featured back. He carried the ball 17 times for 49 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Titans. With Joseph Addai’s return still up in the air, James appears to be the guy to own at this point for the Colts. He’s a solid flex play as long as Addai is out.

Others to look at: Mike Hart, Rashard Jennings, Anthony Dixon (must own), Mike Goodson

WR

Kenny Britt- Britt finally returned last Thursday and although he didn’t have a huge game, he was productive and heavily involved. He had 4 catches for 39 yards but seemed to come out healthy and certainly looked it during the game. If the owner who had him didn’t hold him and he’s still available, he’s the number one target this week at receiver and is a must own in all leagues and formats.

Louis Murphy- Murphy was a guy many people had on their sleeper list coming into the season but because of injuries and a up and down quarterback situation, he didn’t quite pan out. He did however play his tail off against the Jaguars Sunday compiling six catches for 59 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets. He has a lot of speed, good hands and is a great route runner so if you’re in need grab him asap.

Arrelious Benn- The rookie, who was drafted way ahead of now star receiver Mike Williams, has had some trouble adjusting and getting on the field until recently. He had the biggest game of his short career this past weekend against the Redskins grabbing four passes for 122 yards. He has big time talent and especially in keeper or dynasty leagues, if he’s available now is the time to grab him and for teams hurting at the receiver position in 12 team and deeper league’s he’s not a bad option with the Lions and Seahawks on deck.

Others to look at: Earl Bennett, Jacoby Jones, Brandon Gibson, Ruvell Martin

TE

Rob Gronkowski- Gronkowski found the end zone once again Sunday in Chicago during a snow storm and now only trails Marcedes Lewis and Antonio Gates for the lead on touchdowns by a TE. If he is somehow still available he is a must grab as he is now the 10th best fantasy TE. He gets the Packers this week who give up the 7th most fantasy points to TE’s and Gronkowski also has the most points amongst TE’s over the past five weeks (62 in PPR, 45 in standard). He is a must own and must start at this point so if he’s somehow still out there grab him five minutes ago.

Owen Daniels- Daniels made his return Monday night and his impact was definitely felt. He is finally healthy it seems and posted up great numbers, the Owen Daniels type numbers were used to from back in 08’. Daniels finished with five catches for 91 yards on 11 targets against the Ravens. He is a must own but I wouldn’t necessarily cut my current TE for him as he has been a injury prone the last two seasons. He gets the Titans and Broncos the next two weeks, both of which are in the bottom ten in the league against the TE.

Zach Miller- Miller seems to be a little bit healthier; maybe not 100% back yet but was definitely involved Sunday in Jacksonville. Miller finished with four catches for 68 yards, the best game he’s had in about five weeks. He is another guy who can’t be on waiver wires anymore but also not “healthy” enough for you to drop your current tight end just yet either.

Week 13 Early Game Active/Inactives

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson(ankle) will be active and start Sunday against the Bills 32nd ranked run defense. Toby Gerhart will get around 8-10 touches i’d guess to give AP more rest than normal. Gerhart is a decent desperation flex play.

Saints RB Pierre Thomas(ankle) will sit out today’s game in Cincy. Chris Ivory, Reggie Bush and Julius Jones are going to share touches. Reggie Bush’s leg is not yet at 100% but he expects to be heavily involved today in both the passing and running game.

Chiefs RB/WR Dexter McCluster(ankle) will start against the Broncos and opposite of Dwayne Bowe. McCluster’s return could help Bowe’s cause as he could burn down the field to allow the safeties to help and leave Bowe one on one with Champ Bailey.

Vikings WR Percy Harvin(migraines) is OUT today against the Bills. Sidney Rice and Bernard Berrian get a big boost with Harvin out as well as Greg Camarillo.

Giants WR Steve Smith(pectoral) will be inactive as expected for Sunday and Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth(illness) will be inactive against the Giants as well. RB Ryan Torain(hamstring) is out today. James Davis and Keiland Williams will split carries against the 5th best defense against the run.

Dolphins wideout Brandon Marshall(hamstring) will sit today against the Browns. Davone Bess and Brian Hartline are solid flex plays today.

49ers Brian Westbrook(ankle) will play today after battling some ankle pain during the week. Westbrook will get bulk of carries but Anthony Dixon will likely get the carries around the goal line.

Packers receiver Greg Jennings is active today as expected and RB Dmitri Nance(concussion) will not play. Rookie James Starks will be active for the first time in his career but it remains to be seen how much if at all he’ll be used.

As expected Colts wideout Austin Collie(concussion) will not play today against the Cowboys. Blair White becomes a solid WR3 for this matchup.

Titans wideout Kenny Britt(hamstring) is officially out today, he’s likely to return week 14. Kerry Collins(calf) is going to start against the Jaguars today as expected.

Bills RB C.J. Spiller (hamstring) will return today in Minnesota and will handle return duties and get a few touches out of the backfield. Fred Jackson will still get majority of touches so don’t worry about using him.

12/3 Player News

Texans WR Andre Johnson tweaked his ankle during Thursday’s loss to the Eagles but an MRI reavealed no serious damage. He’ll be fine going into Week 14 with a 10 day lay off.

Titans QB Kerry Collins(calf) was limited in practice Friday but hopes are that he’ll be able to go Sunday against the weak Jaguars secondary. He would be a big upgrade for Nate Washington and Randy Moss over Rusty Smith. Kenny Britt(hamstring) is eyeing a week 14 return. Britt was able to do some light drills this week but needs one more week to be back in game shape.

Seahawks WR Mike Williams(f00t) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game but says he expects to play. This would be a big hit to Ben Obomanu’s production but Williams very easily could reaggravate this injury and leave the game early, so i’d keep Obomanu in lineups as the Panthers will be keyed on Williams if he’s in the game.

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson(ankle) practiced Friday and is being considered probable for Sunday’s dream matchup with the Bills. I’d expect Toby Gerhart to steal some carries especially if the game gets out of hand early. Percy Harvin(migraines) was limited in practice Friday and is going to be a game time decision.

Antonio Gates(foot), Mike Tolbert(hand) and Ryan Mathews(ankle) are participated in Friday’s practice and are on track to play Sunday. Tolbert and Mathews are expected to split carries with Tolbert the more likely one to take goal line carries.

Jaguars WR Mike Sims-Walker(ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup with the Titans. Upgrade TE Marcedes Lewis as he is the only other viable threat besides Mike Thomas for David Garrard to throw too.

The Browns have confirmed Jake Delhomme will start at QB Sunday in Miami.

Jets Safety Jim Leonhard left Friday’s practice on a cart after breaking his tibia. He will now miss the remainder of the season. This is a big blow to the Jets secondary and return game. Eric Smith and Brodney Pool are expected to rotate in at safety while Antonio Cromartie will take over as the punt returner.

Falcons WR Roddy White(knee) as expected practiced in full Friday and is good to go Sunday against the Bucs.

Raiders TE Zach Miller(foot) said he expects to play in San Diego Sunday in a decent matchup as the Chargers pass defense has been great but they have allowed at least 13 fantasy points to TE’s in 5 of the last 6 weeks.

Colts RB Mike Hart(ankle) was unable to practice Friday but is still expected to play Sunday against the Cowboys. Donald Brown will get the start once again as Joseph Addai(neck/shoulder) seems to be a week away from returning to the starting lineup.

Saints RB Pierre Thomas(ankle) was limited in practice Friday but Coach Payton says there is still a “realistic chance” he will play against the Bengals. Even if Thomas does play he’ll have to fight for touches with Chris Ivory, Reggie Bush and dare I say Julius Jones who has actually showed signs of life since becoming a Saint. I wouldn’t recommend starting Thomas if he does play until his role and health are better known.

Bills RB C.J. Spiller(hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday and will play Sunday in Minnesota. Fred Jackson will still get the majority of touches as Spiller will likely be worked back into the mix slowly.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger(foot) will play Sunday in Baltimore in a big division game. Big Ben was unable to get through a full practice all week but the Steelers will implement more shotgun plays in order to help him make it through the whole game. There is no question if Big Ben can walk, he will play in a game that could very likely decide the division.

11/27 Player News

The Raiders have announced that Bruce Gradkowski and not Jason Campbell will start Sunday against the Dolphins. SOURCE: : Adam Schefter on Twitter

Raiders TE Zach Miller(foot) and Darrius Heyward-Bey(hamstring) are both expected to start Sunday. Miller is an average start as he still doesn’t appear to be 100% and DHB is just too inconsistent to be trusted week in and out.

Maurice Jones-Drew(abdomen) is listed as questionable for Sunday against the Giants but is fully expected to play. He will however be without LT Eugene Monroe which will make MJD’s matchup tougher, but he is a must start. Mike Sims-Walker(ankle) is listed as questionable but is believed to be in the lineup. I’d sit him either way as long as you have another option as I can’t see him being close to 100%.

Titans WR Kenny Britt(hamstring) has been officially ruled out once again. Rookie QB Rusty Smith will make his first start against the horrid Texans pass defense, making Nate Washington and Randy Moss decent options even with the rookie under center.

Texans TE Owen Daniels(hamstring) has been ruled out meaning Joel Dreessen will start once again and is a low end TE1 this week.

Redskins WR Santana Moss(hamstring) is going to be a game time decision and I recommend sitting him as these hamstring injuries can flare up at a moments notice. If you have another option, use him.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart(concussion) and QB Jimmy Clausen(concussion) are both expected to return this week. Stewart will likely split carries with Mike Goodson in his return against the Browns.

Browns QB Jake Delhomme(ankle) is 100% healed and will get the start with Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace nursing ankle injuries. He is not a fantasy option.

Seahawks receiver Mike Williams(foot) is going to be a game time decision and will play sparingly even if he does play. Explore other options and keep Williams on benches for the time being.

Chiefs TE Tony Moeaki(concussion) and Dexter McCluster(ankle) are both expected to return to the lineup Sunday in Seattle. Moeaki is a low end TE1 while McCluster shouldn’t be started unless your in return yardage leagues.

Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall(hamstring) will miss his first game due to injury in his career. QB Chad Henne(knee) apparently has some miracle healer because two weeks ago we thought his season was over, but he will now start Sunday in Oakland.

Chargers TE Antonio Gates(foot) is a game time decision but most reports i’ve read lean towards him sitting. Don’t wait until 8pm to see if he’s active, start someone else. RB Ryan Mathews(ankle) will sit again leaving Mike Tolbert to get the bulk of the carries against the Colts and their 30th ranked run defense.

Colts WR Austin Collie(concussion), RB’s Joseph Addai(neck) and Mike Hart(ankle) have all been ruled out for Sunday night. WR Blair White will play for Collie while Donald Brown will carry the load at RB. Reggie Wayne(knee) will play even though he is currently listed as questionable.

49ers TE Vernon Davis(ankle) is ready to go after a good week of practice. The ankle has been bothering him for weeks now it appears and shouldn’t be an issue going forward, start Davis.

11/23 Player Updates

Colts Receiver Austin Collie(concussion) has already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Chargers as a “precaution”. Blair White will fill the slot receiver role and is a solid flex play especially in PPR leagues. Teammate Joseph Addai(neck) will be participating only in non contact work this week during practice. Many believed he’d be able to return during week 12, but this news leads us to believe week 13 is more likely. Donald Brown, who looked much better this past week, would draw another start if Addai is inactive.

Chargers activated Vincent Jackson from the roster exempt list and he is expected to play a significant role in the offense Sunday in Indy. RB Ryan Mathews(ankle) is unlikely to play as well, meaning another start for Mike Tolbert against the leagues 30th ranked run defense. Malcom Floyd(hamstring) tweaked his hammy Monday night and is likely to be a game time decision Sunday. With the game being Sunday night, if you have other options i’d use them instead of holding out hope of Floyd playing. TE Antonio Gates(foot) is still unsure if he’ll be able to come back week 12. Gates is such a tough competitor, I can’t rule his return out completely in a big game like this, but we’ll have to take a wait and see approach. As with Floyd, if you have another  option use him with the game being late.

Chargers wideout Patrick Crayton, had a decent game Monday night until he dislocated his wrist. Crayton finished with 3 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown but is now likely to be sidelined at least two weeks. If Crayton and Floyd can’t go, look for Vincent Jackson and Seyi Arijotutu to get the start in a good matchup in Indy.

Giants WR Hakeem Nicks is going to be out at least three weeks with compartment syndrome in his lower right leg. With fellow wideout Steve Smith already on the shelf for at least another week, look for Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan to start Sunday. The Giants also signed former Bucs wideout Michael Clayton from the UFL today. Clayton showed some flashes while in Tampa but never put it together consistently, maybe some time away from the NFL helped him develop and hopefully be able to help the Giants depleted receiving corp.

Dolphins wideout Brandon Marshall, who suffered a hamstring injury during last Thursday’s home loss to the Bears, says he will “do everything in my power to play Sunday.” Marshall has never missed a game because of injury and hopefully that streak continues, but hamstrings are very tough to recover from without the proper amount of rest, so stay tuned.

Browns QB Colt McCoy is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. If he is unable to go this week, look for Seneca Wallace to return as the Browns starter. TE Ben Watson, was in and out of the lineup Sunday after suffering an ankle injury and was held without a catch. There currently is no updates on this matter and as soon as we have one, we will be sure to pass it along to you.

Lions RB Jahvid Best(turf toe) is having more and more issues with it and was outproduced by Maurice Morris during Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. Best is not likely to suit up Thursday against the Patriots and with Kevin Smith placed on IR, Maurice Morris would get the start and is a decent flex play in PPR leagues.

Saints RB Reggie Bush(leg) is likely to go Thursday against the Cowboys while Pierre Thomas(ankle) was held out of Tuesdays practice and Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Time-Picayune assumes there has been a setback in Thomas’ recovery. A Thursday afternoon return is even more unlikely return date for Thomas if he’s unable to practice at all just two days prior. We will continue to monitor this but don’t give up on Thomas just yet has he could be a juggernaut for you during your fantasy playoffs.

Redskins RB Clinton Portis(groin) who started Sunday’s game against the Titans, reaggravated it and was unable to return, leaving Keiland Williams to shoulder the load. Portis, in my estimation is done this year and Ryan Torain(hamstring) is more than likely to be ruled out this week as well, leaving Williams to carry the load once again, against the Vikings.

49ers TE Vernon Davis left Sunday’s home loss to the Bucs after aggravating the same ankle he sprained a few weeks back. Davis states that its not that serious but we’ll keep an eye on this going into Monday nights game with the division rival Cardinals.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart(concussion) was unable to practice Tuesday and his week 12 status is uncertain. Stewart has missed the last two weeks with this concussion and Mike Goodson has filled in admirably. Stewart still has a ton of talent, but in re-draft leagues it is almost time to cut bait completely.

Titans WR Kenny Britt(hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 12 already. Britt more than likely won’t return until at least Week 14, if he’s lucky. With the Titans loss of Vince Young however, Britt is looking a little less attractive even if he does return if rookie Rusty Smith is under center.

Cardinals receiver Early Doucet has been diagnosed with a concussion after leaving Sunday’s game in the 2nd quarter. Doucet will be monitored throughout the week but I wouldn’t count on him suiting up Monday night against the 49ers.

Seahawks receiver Mike Williams, after posting a 6-109 day Sunday left the game in the third quarter after feeling something pop in his foot. He was unable to return to the game and his status for going forward is dependent upon his response to treatment according to coach Pete Carroll. Week 12 at the very least seems to be a wash as far as Williams is concerned so make other plans.

Jaguars receiver Mike Sims-Walker has now been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, which kept him out of Sunday’s win against the Browns. Sims-Walker is unlikely to play this Sunday against the Giants too, so make other arrangements if he’s in your current lineup.

Departure from Fantasy Island (Week 8 Recap and Thoughts)

By: Steve DeAngelo

Note: Be sure to click underlined texts for videos.

Randy Moss is going to be released today after just 4 weeks with the Minnesota Vikings. Moss was fairly quiet in his time in New England until this year when he was traded. I thought he would be a happy camper back in Minnesota. However, Moss complained about the coaches not using the info he gave them for the Patriots game this week. Also we saw Moss giving the half hearted effort on a PI call where he could of finished the play and caught a TD. Instead he gave up and Minnesota failed to score a TD on that drive. Finally, today we heard rumblings about Moss complaining about Food that was ordered from a local restaurant and the Vikings players getting annoyed at him. It seems some of them were in agreement with Childress in wanting to let him go. At the same time, this Vikings team is 2-5 and they need Moss. He simply just creates more offense. Since Moss has arrived, Adrian Peterson, Brett Farve and Percy Harvin’s numbers have all improved. Sidney Rice is not expected back until at least Week 12 or Week 13 maybe longer. The Schedule eases up a bit for the Vikings but basically they just wasted a 3rd round pick on Moss. I can see why they cut him, but at the same time you have to be able to control your players and Brad Childress was simply unable to do that. Childress should be the next to leave, he is not a good head coach. Will see who Snatches up Moss, we will find out Wednesday at 4pm, early favorites are the Seahawks, Rams, Dolphins and Titans. Who will be the next team to take a chance on Randyyyyyyyyyy Moss.

Another Bizzare event occurred this weekend with Mike Shanahan benching Donovan Mcnabb for the final two drives of their game against the Lions. He benched him for Rex Grossman! Grossman, as we all know is a horrific quarterback, this move made absolutely no sense and in my mind was one of the dumbest decisions by a coach since Marty Morhinweg’s decision by electing to kick the ball overtime after winning the coin toss while coaching with the Lions. It wasn’t like Mcnabb was playing terrible. He had 200 yards passing on 17 of 30 with a TD and One pick. He also had 44 yards rushing. Shanhan’s reasoning was almost as dumb as the benching, saying Mcnabb wasn’t fit to run the two-minute offense because he hadn’t done it in 5 weeks and also his cardiovascular condition was a concern. So Rex Grossman who hasn’t started a game in 3 years was more ready to run a 2 minute offense than a QB who hasn’t done it in 5 games?  Grossman came in, got sacked lost the football and Ndamukong Suh picked it up and ran it in for a TD to seal the Lions victory.  Shanahan is a good coach who has two superbowls, but he doesn’t get a pass here. He was simply frustrated that his offense wasn’t clicking the way he thinks it should got angry and made a dumb decision. I could understand if they had a better backup, but Rex Grossman? Shanhahan gets a C’mon man for that moronic move.

The Cowboys are a complete shame. So much talent gone to waste. They simply played an uninspired game this week to Jacksonville as they lost 35-17 at home. Wade Phillips needs to go soon, I guess Jerry will just wait the year out and then make the move, but it’s coming. After such a lackluster effort this week it’s clear Wade Phillips has lost this team and has failed to motivate them.

Emerging

Matthew Stafford

Returning after being out with a shoulder injury since Week 2, Stafford threw for 212 yards and 4 TD’s against Washington. Stafford didn’t play great overall but found the endzone 4 times connecting 3 times with Calvin Johnson Aka Megatron. It was his first game back and had this type of game. Going forward you can expect more yards and multiple TD’s almost every game from Stafford. Throwing to a guy like Calvin Johnson makes him a solid start almost every week. Then he has Nate Burelson, Brandon Pettigrew, Tony Scheffler and Jahvid Best so it’s not only Johnson helping out Stafford.

LeGarrette Blount

I picked up Blount about 4 weeks ago and waited and waited and waited, but had to release him after he continued to do nothing. However last week we saw the sign that good things could be coming when he went for 67 yards on 11 carries. Well this week the former Oregon Duck had a breakout game running for 120 yards on 22 carries for two Td’s. It’s pretty clear he has taken the job from Cadillac Williams and Earnest Graham and is the most talented back on the team. However keep in mind this was against Arizona and their 29th ranked Run D. However,  this is an emerging offense with Josh Freeman playing well and Mike Williams having a terrific rookie season. Blount should be a low-end #2 back going forward. He is talented just don’t expect many games like this.

Jacob Tamme

It’s simple Peyton Manning makes everyone look better. As long as you can run a route and have the ability to catch and get open he will get you the ball. Losing Dallas Clark was big, but Tamme is similar to Clark in that he runs good routes and has good speed for a TE. Last night Tamme finished with 6 catches for 64 yards and a TD. Manning likes to get the ball to his Tight End so Tamme should remain a factor every week. He could finish the year as a top 7 Tight end.

Fading

Cedric Benson

Well he’s been faded all year pretty much, but Benson just simply isn’t getting it done. The Bengals have turned into more of a pass first team, but Benson is still getting plenty of carries, he’s just not producing. He has only one 100 yard game all year vs the Pitiful Tampa Bay Run D and hasn’t scored since week 3. Again he is getting the carries with 40 of them the last two weeks. Take out the game for TB and he is only averaging 3.3 YPC.  It’s not looking good for Benson with his fantasy playoff matchups against Pittsburgh, Cleveland and San Diego. If you can trade him do it , if not hang on and just hope that he can start to find the endzone because the yards will be lacking.

Wes Welker

Welker is really struggling this year. Coming back from his ACL injury he just doesn’t look the same. He’s not as explosive. He doesn’t get out of his breaks as quick as he used to and doesn’t break tackles and make people miss as often either. It’s clear the injury has affected him. Also it doesn’t help that Randy Moss is gone to open up things for him. Welker hasn’t had a game over 75 yards all year and hasn’t scored since week 2. With Moss gone teams are starting bracket him more often. Also with Moss gone, Aaron Hernandez and Deion Branch have kind of taken his role a bit. I wouldn’t count out Welker yet, but the signs are there. He may have a couple big games ahead, but the consistency we saw from him in the past is most likely not to return, at least for this year.

Breakout

Jamal Charles

Charles finally broke out this week with 248 total yards. I have been waiting for this game the whole season and Charles finally got it. The guy averaged 8 yards per carry on Sunday and is now averaging 6.5 yards per carry. The only thing that is holding Charles back is the TD’s, he only has 3 of them. Charles is an absolute beast. I have been trying to trade for him all year but to no avail, if you landed him congrats. If not, keep trying especially in keeper leagues, he’s a top 5 back in this league in terms of talent.

Eating Crow

Darren Mcfadden

When Mcfadden was drafted I doubted him because of his skinny legs, and lack of agility. Two years in Mcfadden was looking like a bust, going down easy, not making defenders miss and often getting injured. While injuries remain a concern, this year Mcfadden is a completely different player. He is running with power and even his agility has improved. He looks like one of the best backs in the league right now. Mcfadden is averging 5.5 yards per carry, and has 5 games with over 125 total yards to go with 6 TD’s. As long as he stays healthy Mcfadden is going to produce every single week. He really worked hard in the off-season and it has shown.

Key Injuries from Week 8

Kenny Britt (Hamstring)

Let’s see owners including myself sit Britt in week 7 he explodes, and are anxious to get him in lineups for week 8. On Titans first drive of the game Young throws a bomb to a wide open Britt, but he pulls up lame with a hamstring injury. That’s fantasy football for ya. It looks like Britt is going to be out for at least a couple of weeks. It’s good Titans have a bye this week, but don’t expect him back until week 12 at least.

Ryan Torain (Hamstring)

Torain is hurt once again with a pulled hammy, there is no tear, but you can expect him to miss at least a week or two. This is not an easy injury to come back from see Darelle Revis, Knowshon Moreno this year.

Vernon Davis (Ankle)

Davis left early in this one, hurting many fantasy owners not just himself. No word on his status yet, but 49ers have a bye in week 9.

Vince Young (Ankle)

Young re-aggravated his ankle injury and left in the 2nd half against the Chargers after having a pretty good game. Titans have a bye week as well so Young has a good chance at returning in Week 10.

Donald Driver (Quad)

You can put Driver in the fading category as well, as he has been held without a catch two straight weeks now and has been silent for the last month. Driver left this one early as he was playing with this quad injury. Stay tuned, but you should have other options available.

Percy Harvin (Ankle)

Harvin is hurt again and it doesn’t help now that Randy Moss is gone. If he plays this week and I expect he will he has a nice matchup vs the Cardinals.
