10. Roddy White

13. Roscoe Parish

In the NFL, you are considered to be very fortunate if you finish out the whole season going unscathed.  Each week goes by in the NFL and the chances of getting injured or hurt have only will only increase. There are athletes who play with lingering injuries while there are others who go on i.r. The NFL is a game played by only warriors and in a game of inches. Only the strong survive. During the games each week we as fans only wonder which teams are going to win but we rarely ever wonder which of the players will survive. Whether or not they’d like admit it, this is in the back of every player’s mind, survival. It’s a battle each and every week. New opportunities emerge for some players, while existing ones diminish for others. The bottom line is, no matter what injuries plague the NFL each, you should never be surprised. Be prepared, and get your waiver picks ready because you will never know who is going to be next on the NFL HIT LIST.

Mathew Stafford is on top of the NFL HIT LIST this week as he may be out for the year with a separated shoulder. Detroit Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz is keeping things under wraps because he doesn’t want to make a false statement too early. It seems as though Shaun Hill will suit up in week 10 and start against the Buffalo Bills. Stephen Gostkowski pulled a quad muscle and will be out for the year while Jason Hansen injured his knee against the Jets and will have to miss two or three weeks. Dave Birkett will most likely fill the role for Hansen while he is out instead of Ndamukong Suh, whom, for those who have watched the game on Sunday, replaced Hansen and missed a key extra point vs. the Jets. Matt Moore and Jonathan Stewart both suffered injuries during Sunday’s game vs. the Saints; the only difference is that Matt Moore will be out with a torn labrum for the rest of the season while Jonathan Stewart may miss a game or two from a concussion. Anthony Gonzalez can’t catch a break and seems to be like the Cadillac Williams of wide receivers as he will be placed on i.r. once again with a knee injury. Austin Collie also made it to the list again but this time he suffers from a concussion and will not be ready to play in week 10 vs. the Bengals. Ochocinco, Lee Evans, Roddy White, and Heath Miller are all questionable with ankle and knee injuries. Check back on their status before you plug them in for your week 10 fantasy lineups. Roscoe Parish is out for the year for the Bills with a broken wrist. Tom Brady may use his minor foot sprain as a scapegoat to explain why their offense has been struggling without Randy Moss. They play the Steelers this weekend and if they couldn’t get things done against the Browns last weekend, I wonder what they think will be in store for them this weekend. Good Luck Mr.Brady. Chad Henne isn’t on the hit list this week but maybe he ought to be.  With a quarterback rating of 78.2 Head Coah Tony Sparano will give Chad Pennington the start at home vs. the Titans this week. Anyway, below are waiver wire fantasy players I think you should take a look at and plug into your lineups this week if you need help at that position.

Wide Receiver Recovery List

1. Bernard Berrian –Finally the Minnesota Vikings are seeing what kind of use they can get out of Bernard Berrian who signed a contract for 42 million dollars for 6 years, with 16 million guaranteed. Bernard had a product full game on Sunday’s win vs. the Cardinals (9 receptions, for 89 yards). I can see Bernard Berrian playing big again against the Bears in week 10 and looks like a nice start before Sidney Rice (hip) joins the starting lineup.

2. Earl Bennett – I said it last week, and I will say it again this week. Earl Bennett has been taking a bigger role in the offense and will continue to do so going forward. Earl Bennett had a touchdown and 52 yards receiving in Sunday’s win against the Bills. Devin Hester’s role has diminished in the first team offense because the coaching staff wants to keep Devin fresh for punt and kickoff returns. With the Vikings ranked 7th against the run, you can expect the Bears passing team to continue to just pass. Now I can’t lie to you, the Vikings pass defense is ranked tenth overall but it still doesn’t matter, the Bears are going to be passing all game regardless. Keep in mind I don’t think the Bears are going to win this game and will have to throw anyway. In a point per reception league, Earl Bennett will be a solid start in week 10.

3. Michael Jenkins – With Roddy White questionable for Thursday night, I can picture Michael Jenkins getting more looks his way. With or without Roddy White in the lineup I still like Jenkins to have some opportunities to put up decent fantasy numbers.

4. Jordan Shipley – This rookie wide receiver looks like a decent start against the Colts this weekend with their backs against the wall. Are the Bengals going to lose 6 in a row? Ochocinco is also milking an ankle injury and Shipley can be in line for an expanded role for a desperate Bengals team.

Running Back Recovery List

1. Mike Goodson – Jonathan Stewart is out with a concussion, and Deangelo Williams is still out with an ankle injury. I’m sorry but this may be the best I can do for you this weekend. The Buccaneers rush defense is ranked 30th in the league or else I’d say don’t even bother. Mike Goodson is a decent flex play this week as he will be used extensively with Jimmy Clausen back behind center. Not too much on Mike Goodson. He was a beast in high school averaging 11.4 yards a carry but during college he wasn’t given a full role. He did get honorable mentioned however. He runs a 4.5 forty and was drafted in the 4th round by the Panthers. LOL, Mike Goodson scored a touchdown against the Giants in the preseason of 2009 and was flagged for making a throat slashed gesture to Giants fans, maybe he will pretend to gun some fans down this weekend if he finds pay dirt against the Buccaneers.

2. Kevin Smith – With the Lions leaning more towards a 50-50 split with their running game, I can’t picture Kevin Smith not having a solid day running against the worst run defense in the NFL. Smith is a solid flex start this week!

3. C.J. Spiller – Why not. When is this stud going to get a chance to break loose? Lions let up 3.7 yards a carry last week to Ladanian but Shonn Green averaged 4.8. If the Bills were smart they would give Spiller a bigger role over Fred Jackson because Spiller is a bruiser.

Quarterback Recovery List

  1. Josh Freeman – This kid seems to impress me week after week and I would love to root for him if I needed to plug him in as my QB comes Sunday. Freeman has a favorable matchup against the Panthers in week 10.
  2. Shaun Hill – He can’t be that bad of a start this weekend against the Bills. I know he has a broken forearm but if he says he is going to play he will sure give it his all. Throw the deep ball to Megatron this week.
  3. Troy Smith – Troy Smith will get the nod over Alex Smith and for a few darn good reasons. The 49ers are looking for revenge at home this weekend from what happened to them on opening day against the Rams. I expect the 49ers defense to play huge in this game and Troy to have a solid number 2 fantasy quarterback day.
  4. Matt Hasselbeck – Is back from his concussion and is ready to have a decent game against the Cardinals.

Tight End Recovery List

1.Jermaine Gresham –The Bengals need a win in the worst way and Jermain could be a part of that win. He is a low end fantasy option but worth the risk if it is a back and forth game against the Colts in week 10.

2.Anthony Fasano – He’s been playing well and consistent all season. The Dolphins the Titans at home this week and will look to find their first home win with Pennington as their quarterback.

3.Rob Gronkowski –Tom Brady definitely feels the offense slipping without Randy Moss. With two tight end sets out on the offensive side of the ball for the most of the game, I could picture Rob having a decent day against a tough Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

4 O’clock Breakdowns + Sunday and Monday Night- Week 9

By: Rick Findura

New York Giants at Seattle Seahawks
Prediction: Giants 24, Seahawks 10. The Giants D is playing lights out right now, and with Matt Hasselbeck out for Sunday because of a  concussion last week) and no real proven performer at receiver, it won’t be easy for Seattle, despite their recent successes against the G-men at home.  Mike Williams has been the best option for the Seahawks, but isn’t explosive. Williams may get some late grabs in what I expect to be a game the Giants keep well in hand throughout.  Marshawn Lynch and Justin Forsett shouldn’t see much room to run.  The Giants have completely shut out the likes of DeAngelo Williams, Arian Foster, and Matt Forte.  Lynch isn’t as established as any of them, and shouldn’t be in your starting lineup this week.  For the Giants, expect a balanced effort.  Ahmad Bradshaw again will get the ball between the 20′s, and as he’s shown, he’ll do some damage.  Brandon Jacobs has a good shot at getting in the end zone in this one.  I see the big points however coming from the Giants receivers.  Hakeem Nicks has shown himself to be a terrific red zone target and deep threat and it is rare to be both in this league.  I think the guy to look for this week though is Steve Smith.  Going against his former college coach in Pete Carroll, you know he’ll be looking to impress.  With the Giants getting out to an early lead, I see the Giants looking at Smith often to pick up first downs and keep the chain and the clock moving. Smith has been picking it up of late and is a solid start in PPR leagues as well as Standard.

Kansas City Chiefs at  Oakland Raiders
Prediction: Chiefs 24, Raiders 20.  This is a matchup of the number 1 and number 2 ranked rushing teams in the NFL.  With the Chiefs being the number 1 rushing team in the league.  I give the edge to the Chiefs running game due to the fact that the Raiders are 26th in stopping the run. (The Chiefs D is 7th).  I expect Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones to run the ball all over Oakland on Sunday.  As is the usual for the Chiefs, Jones will get the bulk of the carries early and on short yardage.  Charles will get the ball often between the 20′s.  Charles is averaging an astounding 6.5 yards per carry, giving him the title of “Breakout Player of the Week”  possibility.  Charles is also great catching the ball out of the backfield.  Charles and Jones should both get the start in your league.  Dwayne Bowe has caught 5 TD’s in the past 3 games, but with only 6 catches combined the past 2 weeks, consider anything he does this week to be a bonus.  Don’t rely on him to but up big numbers, even with Nnamdi Asomugha doubtful to play for the Raiders.  The only player worth starting for the Raiders is Darren McFadden.  McFadden has been a great Fantasy back when not out of the lineup due to injury (twice this season).  He’s gone over 100 yards in 4 of the 6 games he’s played. (95 yards in another).  In the 2 games he didn’t break 100 yards rushing he caught 6 balls out of the backfield in each.  Expect Jason Campbell to struggle.  Darius Heyward-Bey had a breakout game last week, but Brandon Flowers is one of the best, and most underrated corners in the league.

Indianapolis Colts at Philadelphia Eagles
Prediction: Colts 31, Eagles 17.  This is a tough game to predict.  The Eagles are getting Michael Vick back for the first time since week 4.  And I don’t know how much he’s going to give you.  The Colts pass rush is excellent, so expect a lot of hits and a lot of pockets collapsing, forcing Vick to run…and take some more hits. DeSean Jackson is expected to play, but might be tentative in his first game back.  LeSean McCoy could be in for a nice day though.  The Colts don’t stop the run, and even if they do, McCoy is dangerous out of the backfield. I don’t see the Colts attack slowing down Mcoy this week.  Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning.  Expect him to find Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, and Jacob Tamme most of the day. Joseph Addai and Mike Hart are both most likely to be out Sunday, leaving duties to Donald Brown and Javarris James but don’t expect much too much from them.  This will be a game that will be won through the air…surprise!

Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers
Prediction: Packers 31, Cowboys 13. Ok, well, this much I know…don’t look for the Cowboys to break out of their funk this week.  The Packers battled their way to a 9-0 win against the tough Jets D.  They should have no problem moving the ball against the Cowboys.  Expect most of the damage to be done by Aaron Rodgers, obviously.  He’ll pick apart the Cowboys injured secondary all night.  Greg Jennings is a must-start.  And if Donald Driver doesn’t start, you may want to give James Jones a chance as well.  Though Brandon Jackson hasn’t been getting in the end zone, I think he’ll have the ball in his hands enough times to put up decent numbers.  I really don’t see anyone worthy of a must-start against the Packers D for the Cowboys.  Jon Kitna has been getting a lot of yardage in mop up duty when the Cowboys are already out of the game, and that’ll be the case again.  Dez Bryant has been coming on of late, but Miles Austin is still their number 1.  Only 1 of them can really be expected to have a good game, and it’s a coin flip really as to which one.  Jason Witten figures to be Kitna’s security blanket, and he’d be the only Cowboy I’d want in my lineup.  I wouldn’t touch any Cowboy RB with a 10 foot pole this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals
Prediction: Steelers 28, Bengals 14. Straight up and down the Steelers lineup I like in this matchup.  Ben Roethlisberger should be able to hit Mike Wallace down the field, and hit Hines Ward to move the chains.  Rashard Mendenhall should get some yards against the Bengals 23rd ranked D against the run.  For the Bengals it’s another story.  Carson Palmer could put up a ton of yards in garbage time.  I don’t know how often those drives will end up in the end zone however.  I do know that if they do, they’ll be in the hands of Terrell Owens.  Chad Ochocinco is known for not playing well against the Steelers.  Terrell Owens has been a revelation this year though.  TO has averaged over the past 4 games, almost 8 catches for nearly 120 yards, and he’s scored in each game. (5 TD’s total).  Ride the wave while it’s still going.  Cedric Benson should be resting nice and easy on your bench this week.

Waiver Wire Adds Week 8

By Mike Cannici

QB’s

Ryan Fitzpatrick- The Bills QB put up some great numbers yet again during Sunday’s loss to the Ravens. He finished with 374 yards and 4 touchdown passes as well as 20 yards rushing. He has started four games now for the Bills and has scored over 20 pts in each. If you’re in need of QB help, Fitzpatrick might just be your guy. He has brought value back to Bills receivers even Lee Evans who has been non-existent for the past few seasons.

Matt Moore- Moore regained the starting job this week and had a great game in a victory over the 49ers. He did lose pro bowler Steve Smith to injury after returning from an ankle injury and his diagnosis is not yet known. Moore compiled 308 yards and 2 touchdowns Sunday and may be a decent start in 2QB leagues or even a bye week filler with the Rams, Saints and Bucs coming up on the schedule.

Josh Freeman-Josh put up another solid fantasy game this week with 212 yards, a touchdown and 40 yards rushing. The consistent touchdown numbers aren’t quite there yet but he has now scored at least 15 fantasy points in 5 of the Bucs six games. The Bucs have just three remaining games vs top 10 pass defenses and Freeman could help out plenty of fantasy owners.

RB’s

LaGarette Blount- Blount is another guy who has made this list previously but might actually become the starter for the Bucs going forward. He had a 72 yard effort during Sunday’s comeback win over the Rams while current starter Cadillac Williams had just 4 carries for 12 yards but did contribute in the passing game, something Blount isn’t quite adept to yet. Blount should be the top waivers add at RB with a starting job in his very near future maybe even by this week. He draws the Cardinals, Falcons, Panthers, 49ers and Ravens the next five weeks so Blount could begin a breakout campaign.

Willis McGahee- Fantasy owners who do not yet own this guy need to go grab him now as it seems pretty obvious he’s going to be involved in this offense especially around the goal line. He finished with 64 yards on 11 carries and a TD Sunday against the Bills. It looks like him and Rice will share carries going forward likely to keep Rice fresh and that shouldn’t decrease Rice’s value too much. Grab McGahee if he’s available because the Ravens love to run the ball.

Darren Sproles –Sproles had his best game of the season Sunday and has now posted two consecutive double digit weeks in a row in PPR formats. He caught 9 balls for 70 yards to go along with 10 yards on the ground. Sproles complained last week about not getting involved more in the offense and Coach Norv Turner certainly obliged his request to do so. Sproles is a good add especially in PPR leagues going forward. If Ryan Mathews were to go down with an injury again Mike Tolbert would likely take majority of the carries but Sproles should have decent value rest of the season regardless of who the main back is.

WR’s

David Gettis – The return of Matt Moore under center plus the fact that Steve Smith was injured lead to the rookie Gettis to have a big week against the 49ers. Gettis did drop a late TD that would have won the game earlier, but on the next possession made up for it and caught the eventual game winning TD. He finished with 8 catches for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns on the day. Gettis was a sixth round pick out of Baylor and has probably solidified himself as the Panthers number two receiver. If Matt Moore can build on Sunday’s effort, Gettis could be a solid flex or low end WR3 going forward especially if Steve Smith were to miss any significant time.

Patrick Crayton/Buster Davis- The current Chargers starting receivers both had solid games Sunday and with Malcom Floyd at least another week from returning and VJAX a month away, these guys could provide solid numbers for you going forward. Crayton is a talented receiver who was set free by the Cowboys with the addition of rookie Dez Bryant while Davis is a former first round pick who has struggled to remain healthy. I like them both as WR4 going forward and shouldn’t lose a ton of value after Floyd returns with pass happy Phillip Rivers under center. When VJAX returns however that may be a different story but take a shot and ride the wave with these two guys.

Brandon LaFell- LaFell was the second of the Carolina rookie receivers to post a career day grabbing 6 balls for 91 yards including a great catch down the sideline during the comeback drive. LaFell has a lot of talent and if he can build off this game it could pay off huge dividends. Right now he’s more of a speculative add, rather than a must own but he has the size and hands to be a quality receiver in this league.

James Jones- Jones had his best game of the 2010 season Sunday night during the Packers win over the Vikings. Jones tallied four catches for 107 yards on eight targets. Veteran Donald Driver was held without a catch and it’s likely that his quad injury may have been an issue. If Driver continues to struggle with this injury that could open the door for Jones to have a great second half. He needs to continue to be consistent but definitely has all the tools you look for in a number two receiver.

Jordan Shipley- Shipley, who was Browns QB Colt McCoy’s roommate and best friend at the University of Texas, had his biggest game of his young career Sunday. Shipley recorded six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown. His numbers may be slightly skewed as the Bengals were down 24-3 at the half but he has a ton of potential as a slot receiver and if you’re in need of some WR depth, Shipley can definitely add that and be a decent bye week filler.

TE’s

Todd Heap- Heap was able to play Sunday against the Bills after suffering a concussion during week six. Heap hauled in three passes for 59 yards and two touchdowns. The question with Heap has never been talent it’s been his inability to stay healthy and thus far he has been. Heap is a high end TE2 with low end TE1 upside and makes for a great bye week filler at the very worst going forward.

Jermaine Gresham- Gresham didn’t have a great game this week but in PPR leagues he had decent production with four receptions for 26 yards. 6.6 points isn’t an amazing number but he is averaging over six targets per game and now has 26 receptions and two touchdowns. He’s an amazing talent and should eventually turn into a top TE. If you’re in a bind and want to take a chance on the “next big thing” this is your guy. The Bengals have found themselves down in games lately and have been forced to air it out. Gresham is a big target who Palmer does like to look for in the red zone as well so keep your eye on this kid.
