FantasySavvy 2012: Week 14 Fantasy Five (Playoff Edition)

By: Alex Schoenfeld

The first round of the playoffs is here. For those who are lucky enough to still have a heartbeat feast your eyes on the fantasy five.

Dallas @ Cincinnati:

Usually, when discussing anything Bengals, we start with AJ Green. Not this week. Here’s a question for you football buffs: What do Corey Dillon and BenJarvus Green-Ellis have in common? Easy right? Both played for the Patriots. What I bet you didn’t know, is that “The Law Firm” has run for 100+ yards in his past 3 games; making him the first Bengals back since (yep, that’s right) Corey Dillon (circa 1999) to put up such numbers. Can he continue this pace against a porous Cowboys run defense? He’s got my vote. My stat prediction: 26 attempts for 106 yards, 1 TD along with 4 catches for 19 yards.

Keeping with our running back theme, DeMarco Murray had a nice game against Philadelphia last week (who hasn’t?) with 23 attempts for 83 yards and a score. So much for Garrett’s plan to ease him back into a normal workload. Murray is angry. Missing the majority of the season with a bum foot has him mad at the world, so expect hard “hit you before you hit me” type runs. Don’t overthink this one; he’s a top 10 RB play. My stat prediction: 18 attempts for 88 yards and 5 catches for 50 yards and a rec TD.

AJ versus Dez. Green is the better option but I like them both to find the endzone. My stat prediction: AJ: 10 receptions for 115 yards and a TD. DB: 6 Receptions for 77 yards and a TD. Offensively, both of these teams are hitting their stride; finding that “oh so difficult” balance between the run and passing game.

I anticipate sporadic quarterback play in this game. Tony Romo should have the better day of the two, but don’t discount Andy Dalton and his ability to find AJ deep. My prediction: Romo: 23-40 270 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s. Dalton 18-27 230 yards 2 TD’s 1INT.

Chicago @ Minnesota:

Adrian Peterson. Need I say more? This guy is NOT human. If Fox’s robot “Cleatus” actually played on Sunday’s, his number would be 28, his team the Vikings and the name would be Peterson. With Urlacher already declared out for the game (and possibly the remainder of the regular season) expect AP to gash the normally stout Bears defense. This is a do or die game for the Vikings so expect desperation. Stat prediction: 30 attempts for 154 yards and 1 TD along with 4 catches for 27 yards.

With teams focusing more of their defensive strategies to contain Brandon Marshall, we should see opportunity for Matt Forte. Forte is a perfect example of my “law of averages” theory. He has had a solid season, but truly underwhelmed projections until this point. I predict BIG receiving numbers for Forte from this week out. My stat prediction: 18 rush for 70 yards and 8 receptions for 85 yards and 1 TD.

Fantasy favorite Percy Harvin is on IR. We all know his ability, and in the same breath, we know his propensity for injury. This hurts many fantasy teams, but owners can’t say they weren’t warned. Don’t get cute with Jerome Simpson. If there’s any viable receiving option for Minnesota, it’s Rudolph or Jarius Wright. Of course, these are complete lottery tickets, so owners beware. Rudolph has been hot of late however.

We thought the big and physical secondary play of the Seahawks would limit Brandon Marshall. Mark that under the list of “things that DIDN’T happen” last week. He did everything but find the endzone. We know he’s a PPR freak, but the yards came with it this time (165). He cut up the Vikings secondary two weeks ago for a line of 12 catches for 92 yards. I don’t think he will have 17 targets like he did in the previous match-up, but I do expect him to find pay dirt. Stat prediction: 9 receptions for 95 yards and 2 TD’s.

Quarterback play in this game should be lopsided. I like Jay Cutler to keep his playoff push focus up against a susceptible Viking’s pass D. Stat prediction: 21-30 288 yards and 3 TD’s 2INT.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT even sniff Christian Ponder. Over the past seven weeks, he’s thrown for 76 less yards than AP has ran for over that span. He couldn’t take advantage of Green Bay’s vulnerable defense, what makes you think he can produce against arguably the best? Stat prediction: 14-29 215 yards 2 INT’s.

Philadelphia @ Tampa Bay

The secret’s out. Bryce Brown will hurt you. Now that opponents know what he’s capable of, can they stop him? If any team in the league can, it would be the Buccaneers. Their stingy run D only allows a mere 82 yards per game. The only two players in the league than broke the century rushing mark against the Bucs run defense are Adrian Peterson and Alfred Morris. But I still like Brown. Stat Prediction: 18 attempts for 70 yards 1 TD along with 5 catches for 61 yards (plus 1 fumble).

Rookie wall? What rookie wall? Doug Martin has been great this year. Owners who took a chance with him are being rewarded greatly for their intuition. Philadelphia has quit on their season. This means that “they aren’t who we thought they were” players in DeMeco Ryans and Nnamdi Asomugha won’t be risking next year’s health on stopping the “Muscle Hamster.” I think this will be an explosive game for all key pieces in each offense. Stat prediction: 28 attempts 120 yards 1 TD along with 6 catches for 63 yards and 1 TD.

With nothing to lose, I think the Eagles will test out rookie Nick Foles. He has the tools to be a successful NFL QB; size, arm strength, presence etc… With DeSean Jackson out, let’s see if that frees up Jeremy Maclin and possibly Jason Avant. Last time Maclin saw the Bucs, he exploded for 142 yards on 6 catches with 2 TD’s. My stat prediction for Foles: 25-43 277 yards 2 TD’s 3 INT. Stat Prediction for Maclin: 5 receptions 94 yards 1 TD. Avant prediction: 7 receptions 72 yards.

Josh Freeman will have a big day at home. If you need a TE, pick up Dallas Clark (if available still). It seems like their receiving core is finally clicking. I start Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. Heck, if you’re desperate, there are worse spot starts than Tiquan Underwood. Nothing like a desperate team facing a demoralized squad at home. Freeman stat prediction: 26-40 311 yards 3 TD’s and 1INT. Clark prediction: 5 receptions 40 yards and 1 TD. Jackson prediction: 11 receptions 122 yards. Mike Williams prediction: 4 receptions 80 yards 1 TD. Underwood prediction: 4 catches 49 yards.

Baltimore @ Washington:

The Ravens were embarrassed. Check that, humiliated by their bitter divisional foe; who I might add was starting an ancient QB (I see you Charlie Batch). How will they respond?

With a banged up Terrell Suggs, who will match the physicality of Alfred Morris? Who will contain Robert Griffin III? If you’re scratching your head over those propositions, trust me, you’re not alone.

I absolutely love Morris in this spot. Those who did their research before the season are reaping the benefits of Alfred’s domination. At home I think he has one of his best games of the season. The traditional defense style of the Ravens is not conducive to stopping the ‘Skins “Pistol” formations. With RG3 opening up lanes, there will be no telling how damaging Morris will be. Prediction: 24 attempts for 143 yards 2 TD’s along with 3 catches for 19 yards.

RG3 will have a day. Pierre Garcon is back in the mix; expect him to be located early and often. These two have nice chemistry for only playing in about 6 games together. Griffin III Stat prediction: 15-21 210 yards 2 TD’s along with 7 rushes for 50 yards. Garcon stat prediction: 9 receptions 82 yards and 1 TD.

In order for Baltimore to hang with Washington, they will HAVE to score. As I’ve noticed all season, even though Ray Rice is considered the focal point of the offense, Joe Flacco dictates whether they sink or swim.

The Redskins defense will have an emotional letdown after a high intensity Monday night game against the Giants. Flacco will throw the ball deep. With DeAngelo Hall shadowing Torrey Smith for the majority of the game, I like Anquan Boldin to work the middle of the field. I also like Dennis Pitta as a top 10 tight end. Flacco stat prediction: 22-38 327 yards 2 TD’s 1 INT. Rice stat prediction: 25 attempts for 94 yards 1 TD along with 6 receptions for 59 yards. Smith stat prediction: 4 receptions 77 yards. Boldin stat prediction:10 receptions 105 yards 1 TD. Pitta stat prediction: 3 receptions 50 yards 1 TD.

New Orleans @ New York Giants:

Big game at Met-Life Stadium. The Giants need this one to keep their heads above water in the division. The Saints are on life support for a wild card spot, one more loss and their season is over.

After one of his worst performances of his career (5 INT’s no TD’s) last week against the Falcons, Drew Brees is aware of the task ahead. He knows that only his best of the season will allow New Orleans to take down the defending champs in their own house. Stat prediction: 29-51 330 yards 2 TD’s 2 INT’s. Brees fights to the end but can’t seal the deal. I don’t think this is the game where Darren Sproles gets his game back. The Giants have a very deep and athletic defensive line that can contain him. Stat prediction: 3 rushes for 20 yards along with 6 receptions for 44 yards. Jimmy Graham will find the endzone. He is always a matchup disaster and will work the middle of the field and red zone effectively. Stat prediction: 8 Receptions 78 yards 2 TD’s.

Despite the loss in D.C. this past Monday, Eli Manning looks as if he’s regained his early season form. The Saints have one of the worst defenses in the league, and playing outside of their dome, I can see Manning doing damage. Keep in mind N.O.’s d-coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s claim to fame is the SuperBowl title in 2008. With the Giants. There will be a familiarity of schemes; which can serve to help Eli audible at the line, as he does so well.  Stat Prediction: 28-39 318 yards 3 TD’s 1 INT.

Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, Reuben Randel, Martellus Bennett. Giants have weapons. Eli can spread the ball around (especially on this Saints sieve-like defense). Out of this group though, I believe Bennett will outperform his mediocre projections. Bennett stat prediction: 7 receptions 90 yards 1 TD. Nicks has been hobbled the majority of the year, but as we’ve seen in the past, the closer to playoff time the more dynamic play of Hakeem. With Cruz whittling away at trust factor with Eli (leading the league in drops), Hakeem gets a bump in targets. Stat projection: 11 receptions 105 Yards 1 TD. Cruz will be efficient, stat projection: 6 receptions 55 yards 1 TD.

I don’t trust any of the running backs in this game. Obviously, if you have Ahmad Bradshaw, you’re starting him. I think he’ll underwhelm against a terrible rush defense but could find the endzone. Stat prediction: 15 attempts 54 yards 1 TD along with 4 catches for 34 yards. If I had to choose one Saints back, it would be Pierre Thomas, based solely on the fact that I think he’ll have goal line carries. Stat prediction: 13 rushes 68 yards 1 TD along with 3 receptions for 35 yards.

FantasySavvy 2012: Week 10, Fantasy Five

By: Kevin Lewis

New York Jets @ Seattle Seahawks

-If you’re desperate for a bye week QB, I’d give Russell Wilson a look. The Jets defense hasn’t been particularly good this year and Wilson’s mobility will give the Jets trouble because their linebackers are painfully slow. If you are in NEED of a QB this week, Wilson may not be a bad play.

-Jeremy Kerley will be a decent WR2/Flex play this week. While I do think Kerley is a solid player, it’s less about him and more about the disarray of the Jets offense. Someone has to move the ball. The Jets won’t be able to run the ball and Stephen Hill and Chaz Schillens scare exactly nobody. Start Kerley with confidence, even against Seattle’s secondary.

-Start Dustin Keller. (see: Why you should start Kerley). And also, he has a rapport with Sanchez.

-Keep an eye on Golden Tate. He seems to be coming around with Wilson. I’m not necessarily putting this here for this week, but generally.

Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles

-Sit Michael Vick. If you have any inkling on starting him this week, don’t do it. Dallas has a lot of problems but their pass defense is their biggest strength. And Philly’s offensive line is a trainwreck.

-Sit Jeremy Maclin. Any potential return isn’t worth the risk at this point.

-Don’t even bother starting any of Dallas’ running backs unless you are desperate.

-Philadelphia’s pass defense isn’t good. Tony Romo has had two decent weeks in a row fantasy wise. I think he follows it with a third. Start him comfortably.

New York Giants @ Cincinnati Bengals

- Hakeem Nicks will play Sunday but bench him. If you have a better alternative go with it. Although the Cincinnati Bengals pass defense isn’t anything to write home about, Eli is in a funk and Nicks hasn’t done much all year anyway. If you have a decent alternative go with it.

-If you haven’t already dropped Andrew Hawkins, go ahead and do it.

-Andy Dalton is a pretty safe start against a spotty Giants secondary. I’d start him confidently this week.

New Orleans @ Atlanta

-There will be a lot of points in this game. We know about the QBs most definitely. As far as the WRs, I’d start Lance Moore in PPR formats. He’ll get a few looks as New Orleans will likely be putting it in the air a lot.

- Darren Sproles is OUT again so I’d go ahead and give the nod to Chris Ivory. Ingram leaves a lot to be desired and Ivory is always productive when he’s on the field and getting carries. A 13 carry for 62 yard and a TD performance isn’t out of the question. Pierre Thomas is worth a look as well.

Miami @ Tennessee

-Miami’s pass defense just yielded 430 yards to Indianapolis last week. While the Titans do not have a young promising QB like Andrew Luck, I’d start Kenny Britt anyway. He was pretty productive against a much better defense last week and I think he’s due for a monster week. This is more “hunch” than anything but start Britt.

-If you need a bye week QB, Ryan Tannehill might be a good choice. Tennessee’s pass defense isn’t good, and Tannehill is having a solid rookie campaign.

-If you’re in need of a bye week flex/WR, start Davone Bess in PPR formats. Tennessee’s secondary isn’t very good and Bess could get you 6-7 grabs. Also have to throw Brian Hartline in your starting lineups.

Don’t forget to head over to http://www.FP911Challenge.com to play the best Fantasy Football game this year. It’s an opportunity to not only win a seat at $75,000 but you can also take on Tony Cincotta, Paul Greco and Lenny Melnick. It’s time to invest in a better Fantasy Football game. Check it out now.

QB’s Start ‘Em

Phillip Rivers @ Detroit

Rivers is getting hot for fantasy owners at the perfect time, although some owners have been bounced already because of his poor play early on this season. But he’s on top of his game now with 8 TD’s and 0 Int’s in his last four games. The Chargers are still alive in the division and will playing their hearts out against Detroit in what should be a high scoring affair. Look for Rivers to finish with solid numbers, possibly going over the 300 yard mark with 2-3 TD’s.

Matt Ryan @ New Orleans

Here is another QB who struggled early on and now is putting it altogether as the season winds down. “Matty Ice” has been melting that Ice lately as he has been ON FIRE of late with 11 TD’s in his last 4 games! Ryan has been Money! And he will continue to be money in this spot, on Monday Night indoors against the Saints. This game could be played in the 30′s and Ryan will be tossing the rock all night. Expect a 300 yard game with 2-3 TD’s from Ryan as he connects with Julio, Roddy and Tony G. Also sprinkle in a little Harry Douglas in there!

Tim Tebow @ Buffalo

Of course Timmy Tebow is gonna be in here. Has this guy let you down all year? The answer is NO! So make sure to stick with him once again and be confident in your decision. Tebow should be able to find running room as well as passing lanes in this matchup against the poor Buffalo D. Get Tebow in your lineups and don’t expect anything less than 18 fantasy points with an upside of 30-35 points. I see him finishing somewhere in the middle with around 22-24 points.

Sit ‘Em

Joe Flacco vs Cleveland

Just can’t trust Flacco here, he has been inconsistent all year while the Cleveland Secondary has been consistent ranked #3 in defending QB’s. This will be a Ray Rice type of game, avoid Flacco.

Christian Ponder @ Washington

Ponder has been a littly sloppy lately failing to throw for more than 200 yards in last two outings and throwing 4 interceptions as well. This is not an easy matchup, the Skins have been pretty decent against the pass all year ranked 14th in defending QB’s. We saw what they did to Eli Manning and their passing game last week, forcing Eli into three picks with no TD’s. Also with Adrian Peterson healthy and off the injury report, look for him to be the centerpiece of the offense once again. Can’t trust Ponder right now, been to erratic.

Carson Palmer @ Kansas City

This is gonna be a tough one for Palmer going on the road in Arrowhead in a game which should have a lot of juice, since technically the Chiefs are still alive in the AFC West. The Chiefs are coming off containing the best QB in the NFL in Aaron Rodgers for 3 quarters and playing a hell of a game on defense. Their secondary is underrated and seem to be even more inspired now with Romeo Crennel now the head coach. Look for Palmer to put up decent numbers but to struggle for the most part. There is a chance he could totally fall flat on his face so you want to look for other options.

RB’s Start ‘Em

Reggie Bush @ New England

If you aren’t a believer in Reggie by now, shame on you! Maybe this will make you a believer! This dude has been straight lighting it up for the past month and a half now. He has proved a lot of the doubters wrong, by running between the tackles successfully and taking on an everydown type of role. This is by far and away the best he has played in his career. I see no reason why he can’t keep it rolling here against New England, ranked 19th in defending RB’s Even if they get down early, Reggie will play a factor in the passing game. I see Reggie going over 100 total yards in this game with 4-6 catches and a possible score.

CJ Spiller vs Denver Broncos

I have always been a fan of Spiller and I’m glad he has finally gotten a true chance to succeed. Spiller has gone over 100 total yards in two of his last three games with 2 TD’s in that span. He also has 15 catches as well in that frame. No matter what the score, Spiller can be a factor. But this game should be a slow moving, low scoring battle, with Spiller getting quite a few carries against the Denver D ranked 23rd in defending RB’s. Start him with confidence, this dude is legit.

Rashard Mendenhall vs St. Louis

Mendy has had an off year with just one 100 yard game all season. He has also hasn’t really taken advantage of good matchups. But this is one where you just have to use him against St. Louis who have been putrid against the run this year. Also Big Ben could be out, leaving it to Charlie Batch who should be handing off plenty to Mendenhall. Look for Mendy to find the endzone this week.

Willis McGahee @ Buffalo

Willis should be fine for the game against Buffalo in what sets up to be a nice matchup for him. Buffalo is 3rd worst at defending the RB positionand the Broncos will be able to pound the run throughout the game. There is some concern about Lance Ball giving Willis some rest, but there is a good chance McGahee gets near 100 yards in this game and finds the endzone.

Sit ‘Em

Peyton Hillis @ Baltimore

Hillis had a productive game last week against Arizona, but this week it’s a whole different story. If you can, you need to bench Hillis. In his last outing against Baltimore he was held under 50 yards rushing.

Steven Jackson @ Pittsburgh

See Peyton Hillis, Brutal matchup for Jackson, avoid at all costs. His offense may see the redzone once all game.

Donald Brown @ Houston

Brown had a monster game last week rushing for 161 yards and a score, but temper expectations against Houston on Thursday Night Football. Wade Phillips has this Houston D ranked 2nd best in defending the RB position. Don’t get giddy and start Brown Thursday night, look for a safer option if you have it.

Something to think about: Benching Marshawn Lynch

We all know how good Lynch has been this year, he’s been a must-start practically every week, even proving to be matchup proof against the studly Ravens D by running for over a 100 yards with a score against them. But the 49ers D is a different animal. This D hasn’t allowed a rushing TD ALL YEAR! Why would we expect Lynch to see the endzone? I agree with the Motto go with what got you there, but If I owned Marshawn and had a guy like CJ Spiller or even a Kevin Smith, I would bench Lynch. I just don’t trust anybody against that 49ers D, especially if Patrick Willis returns, which is possible.

WR’s Start ‘Em

Brandon Marshall @ New England

Ok this is fairly obvious. We know how bad New England’s secondary has been and how their offense dictates their opponents to throw early and often. Marshall will produce nicely in this game, let’s just hope he doesn’t drop any TD’s this week!

Julio Jones @ New Orleans

Jones has come alive with 3 TD’s in the last two games and looks to be fully recovered from the hamstring injury. Matt Ryan is on full go right now and he should connect with Julio in this game. Very good chance Jones finds the endzone for a third straight game, get him in your lineups.

Demaryius Thomas @ Buffalo

I’ve recommended him earlier in the season and been burnt, but Thomas is now finally showing some consistency. Tebow looks better throwing the ball and Thomas has now overtaken Decker as his favorite target. Favorable matchup here against Buffalo, Thomas makes for fairly safe play in the Super Bowl. I’m thinking 5 catches for 80 yards with a possible score.

Nate Washington vs Jacksonville

Washington has had a career year in 2011. Matt Hasselbeck finds him often and that shouldn’t change this week against Jacksonville and their secondary which has been decimated by injury. They have now lost five Corners. Look for Washington to put up very nice numbers in this matchup.

Sit ‘Em

Darrius Heyward-Bey @ Kansas City

Heyward-Bey has been great the past two weeks going for over 200 yards with a score, but the matchup gets REAL this week. Brandon Flowers is one on of the best corners in the league and will be assigned to Heyward-Bey. Also as noted above, I believe Carson Palmer struggles in this matchup. Heyward-Bey has been solid the past two weeks but I think he gets contained here and held under 50 yards, Flowers matches up with him perfectly.

Anquan Boldin vs Cleveland

Joe Haden, Cleveland Browns stout pass defense, Boldin and Joe Flacco’s inconsistencies all year, leave Boldin on the bench!

Hakeem Nicks @ New York Jets

It’s uncertain who Revis will be covering, but there is a good chance he could be on Nicks for a good portion of the game. The Jets secondary looked brutal last week, but they have been sound the whole year and I think they step up here and give Eli problems. Nicks is still a stud and needs to be considered, but if you have safer options you may want to keep Nicks benched.

TE’s Start ‘Em

Brent Celek @ Dallas

My bad for not suggesting this guy last week, that really was a golden start against the Jets who simply cannot stop the Tight End. Hopefully you got Celek in your lineups and watched him go off for 155 yards and a score. Look for more production this week against Dalllas who have their own problems covering the Tight End giving up the 4th most amount of points to the position. Celek has been on the fantasy radar for the past month and a half and you need to stick with him again this week, he will produce.

Dustin Keller vs New York Giants

I like this spot for Keller against the G-men. The Giants, like their NFC rival Dallas, have had problems covering the Tight End as well ranked 22nd in points allowed the position. Must win game for the Jets, they need to get Keller involved. Keller should have a fairly productive game with around 5-6 catches and 60-70 yards.

Anthony Fasano @ New England

Fasano has been a decent option for the past month or so and this is another matchup to consider him in. Again the Phins will be tossing the rock, Fasano has been targeted midfield and around the goaline, we saw him score last week, let’s ride him again.

Sit ‘Em

Jacob Tamme vs Houston

Looks like Dallas Clark will miss another game, but you can’t use Tamme here. This isn’t last year, keep him benched against Houston who cover the Tight End very well ranked 3rd best.

Heath Miller vs St. Louis

Miller had a nice game on Monday night against the 49ers, but I have serious doubts about him this week. It appears Charlie Batch may play and that most likely means the Steelers will be very run-heavy. Also I’m not sure Batch can get Miller the ball. Lastly, St. Louis is the best when it comes to defending the Tight End.

Brandon Pettigrew vs San Diego

Pettigrew has been better the last two weeks after slumping a bit, but I would be weary of him this week. San Diego ranks 5th best in defending the Tight End. Also, Stafford has been spreading it around to Calvin, Titus Young and Nate Burleson. At this point of the season, I don’t trust Pettigrew.

IDP Start ‘Em

James Harrison, LB Pittsburgh Steelers vs St. Louis

James Harrison, coming back from suspension is very mad right now and he’s going to take it out on the Rams. What a perfect matchup for Harrison as the Rams are allowing more sacks than any other teamKellen Clemens will draw the start for the Rams at QB and he has terrible pocket presence. He will be a sitting duck when Pittsburgh throws blitzes at him. Look for Harrison to get 2-3 sacks in this game.

Aldon Smith, LB, DE, San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle

Smith was a animal on Monday night causing havoc on Big Ben all night. Look for Smith to add to his 13 sacks on the year as he is playing with a ton of confidence right now.

Jarius Byrd, S, Buffalo Bills vs Denver

Tim Tebow comes to town and that means plenty of tackle opportunities for Byrd and the Buffalo defenders. Byrd should get 8+ tackles easy in this matchup.

Sit ‘Em

John Abraham, DE, Atlanta Falcons @ NO

Abraham had 3.5 sacks last Thursday night against Blaine Gabbert, but it won’t be so easy against Drew Brees and his quick release. Keep in mind that was Abraham’s first multi-sack game since Week 1. Look for another option.

Jabari Greer, CB, New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta

Greer is a deflection machine, but has a rough matchup against two premier wideouts in Roddy White and Julio JonesMatt Ryan has also been on top of his game. Leave Greer reserved.

Fantasy Savvy Player Rankings Week 13

With one week before the playoffs, I had to get these rankings out to you. We know you need them, so I am are here to deliver. It should be noted that these rankings aren’t your typical sissy rankings. Sometimes certain guys just need to be ranked higher or lower based on what has been happening of late or because of a certain matchup. I see a lot of these rankings that are just so robotic based on a players past history and name recognition. If the guy hasn’t been doing it all year or has a certain matchup then he needs to be dropped in the rankings, on the other hand if you have a guy who has been hot in recent weeks and has a nice matchup, he deserves to be moved up. In other words, a lot of these other sites have NO BALLS, they take the “Safe” route, because most of them are real life dorks anyway. I try to do the best I can with this. Player News 12/14

Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson is not on this weeks injury report and will be available in week 15. TE Antonio Gates (foot) didn’t practice Tuesday and his week 15 status is still unknown.

Bills receiver Lee Evans (ankle) has been placed on IR thus ending his season.

Vikings QB Tavaris Jackson suffered a turf toe injury and his week 15 status is not yet known. With Brett Favre also ailing, rookie Joe Webb would get the start Sunday unless they sign a veteran immediately. WR Percy Harvin (migraines) is expected to return to practice by Thursday but they haven’t quite committed to him playing this week just yet.

Steelers TE Heath Miller (Concussion) has passed all his neurological tests and is expected to play this week against the Jets.

Giants wideout Steve Smith injured his hamstring Monday in a win over the Vikings and the Giants believe it is very unlikely that he plays this week against the Eagles. Fellow receiver Mario Manningham (hip) is very unlikely to play as well this week against the Eagles in a game that could decide the division. Derek Hagan and Hakeem Nicks will start.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers(concussion) is listed as day to day but he believes he’ll be able to go Sunday in a big game against the Patriots. If Rodgers were to miss another game that would be a severe blow to their playoff hopes with the Saints at 10-3 and the Giants at 9-4. If Rodgers can’t play then Matt Flynn would make his first career start.

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel (appendectomy) is listed as day to day but says he plans to play Sunday against the Rams in a game they must win with San Diego hot on their heels now. They need him back as coach Haley seems to have zero confidence in Brodie Croyle doing much of anything.

Browns QB Colt McCoy (ankle) is very optimistic he will be ready to go this week. It looks like Coach Mangini is feeling McCoy is ready to get back in their as well but we’ll have to see how he practices the rest of the week.

Jets RB Shonn Greene suffered a neck injury during Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins and his week 15 status is not yet known. We’ll monitor this throughout the week but even if he can go, he has to go up against the league’s best run defense in the Steelers.

Saints rookie RB Chris Ivory suffered a hamstring injury Sunday but it not considered serious. Luckily for the Saints Pierre Thomas returned but thats not good news for Ivory has he could start to lose carries to Thomas if this injury lingers. We’ll keep you updated on his status as the week goes along.

Promising Seahawks receiver Deon Butler suffered a devastating leg injury during Sunday’s loss to the 49ers and his season is over. He has been diagnosed with a leg fracture and he will need many months of offsesason rehab to hopefully be ready for the start of the 2011 season.

11/23 Player Updates

Colts Receiver Austin Collie(concussion) has already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Chargers as a “precaution”. Blair White will fill the slot receiver role and is a solid flex play especially in PPR leagues. Teammate Joseph Addai(neck) will be participating only in non contact work this week during practice. Many believed he’d be able to return during week 12, but this news leads us to believe week 13 is more likely. Donald Brown, who looked much better this past week, would draw another start if Addai is inactive.

Chargers activated Vincent Jackson from the roster exempt list and he is expected to play a significant role in the offense Sunday in Indy. RB Ryan Mathews(ankle) is unlikely to play as well, meaning another start for Mike Tolbert against the leagues 30th ranked run defense. Malcom Floyd(hamstring) tweaked his hammy Monday night and is likely to be a game time decision Sunday. With the game being Sunday night, if you have other options i’d use them instead of holding out hope of Floyd playing. TE Antonio Gates(foot) is still unsure if he’ll be able to come back week 12. Gates is such a tough competitor, I can’t rule his return out completely in a big game like this, but we’ll have to take a wait and see approach. As with Floyd, if you have another  option use him with the game being late.

Chargers wideout Patrick Crayton, had a decent game Monday night until he dislocated his wrist. Crayton finished with 3 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown but is now likely to be sidelined at least two weeks. If Crayton and Floyd can’t go, look for Vincent Jackson and Seyi Arijotutu to get the start in a good matchup in Indy.

Giants WR Hakeem Nicks is going to be out at least three weeks with compartment syndrome in his lower right leg. With fellow wideout Steve Smith already on the shelf for at least another week, look for Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan to start Sunday. The Giants also signed former Bucs wideout Michael Clayton from the UFL today. Clayton showed some flashes while in Tampa but never put it together consistently, maybe some time away from the NFL helped him develop and hopefully be able to help the Giants depleted receiving corp.

Dolphins wideout Brandon Marshall, who suffered a hamstring injury during last Thursday’s home loss to the Bears, says he will “do everything in my power to play Sunday.” Marshall has never missed a game because of injury and hopefully that streak continues, but hamstrings are very tough to recover from without the proper amount of rest, so stay tuned.

Browns QB Colt McCoy is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. If he is unable to go this week, look for Seneca Wallace to return as the Browns starter. TE Ben Watson, was in and out of the lineup Sunday after suffering an ankle injury and was held without a catch. There currently is no updates on this matter and as soon as we have one, we will be sure to pass it along to you.

Lions RB Jahvid Best(turf toe) is having more and more issues with it and was outproduced by Maurice Morris during Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. Best is not likely to suit up Thursday against the Patriots and with Kevin Smith placed on IR, Maurice Morris would get the start and is a decent flex play in PPR leagues.

Saints RB Reggie Bush(leg) is likely to go Thursday against the Cowboys while Pierre Thomas(ankle) was held out of Tuesdays practice and Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Time-Picayune assumes there has been a setback in Thomas’ recovery. A Thursday afternoon return is even more unlikely return date for Thomas if he’s unable to practice at all just two days prior. We will continue to monitor this but don’t give up on Thomas just yet has he could be a juggernaut for you during your fantasy playoffs.

Redskins RB Clinton Portis(groin) who started Sunday’s game against the Titans, reaggravated it and was unable to return, leaving Keiland Williams to shoulder the load. Portis, in my estimation is done this year and Ryan Torain(hamstring) is more than likely to be ruled out this week as well, leaving Williams to carry the load once again, against the Vikings.

49ers TE Vernon Davis left Sunday’s home loss to the Bucs after aggravating the same ankle he sprained a few weeks back. Davis states that its not that serious but we’ll keep an eye on this going into Monday nights game with the division rival Cardinals.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart(concussion) was unable to practice Tuesday and his week 12 status is uncertain. Stewart has missed the last two weeks with this concussion and Mike Goodson has filled in admirably. Stewart still has a ton of talent, but in re-draft leagues it is almost time to cut bait completely.

Titans WR Kenny Britt(hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 12 already. Britt more than likely won’t return until at least Week 14, if he’s lucky. With the Titans loss of Vince Young however, Britt is looking a little less attractive even if he does return if rookie Rusty Smith is under center.

Cardinals receiver Early Doucet has been diagnosed with a concussion after leaving Sunday’s game in the 2nd quarter. Doucet will be monitored throughout the week but I wouldn’t count on him suiting up Monday night against the 49ers.

Seahawks receiver Mike Williams, after posting a 6-109 day Sunday left the game in the third quarter after feeling something pop in his foot. He was unable to return to the game and his status for going forward is dependent upon his response to treatment according to coach Pete Carroll. Week 12 at the very least seems to be a wash as far as Williams is concerned so make other plans.

Jaguars receiver Mike Sims-Walker has now been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, which kept him out of Sunday’s win against the Browns. Sims-Walker is unlikely to play this Sunday against the Giants too, so make other arrangements if he’s in your current lineup.

11/8 Injury Updates

Lions QB Matthew Stafford reinjured the shoulder that cost him to miss 5 games back in week one. The amount of time he’ll miss has yet to be determined but it doesn’t look good. It looks like he’ll likely be out for a while once again.

Fantasy RB bust Jonathan Stewart left the blowout loss to the Saints with a head injury during the first half. It appears he suffered a concussion and he’ll have an MRI sometime today. DeAngelo Williams(ankle) may be pressed to “heal” up quickly to play this week if Stewart is unable to go. Stewart has been one of fantasy’s biggest disappointments but he can’t take all the blame as the Panthers offensive line and QB play has been all but atrocious.QB Matt Moore also left in the second quarter with a shoulder injury. The extent of it is yet to be determined, however coach John Fox stated if Moore is healthy, he is our starter. UPDATE: Matt Moore‘s season is over with a torn labrum. He is being placed on IR and rookie Jimmy Clausen will take over. Downgrade all Panthers going forward as the offense has been abysmal with Clausen under center.

Colts receiver Austin Collie suffered a concussion during a huge hit by an Eagles defender during Sunday’s loss. Collie layed motionless for several minutes but luckily once in the locker room he was alert and responsive. We’ll see how much time he misses but at least he seems to have avoided the major injury that was though at first sight.

Chargers RB Ryan Mathews reaggravated his ankle injury during Sunday’s win against the Texans. He will have the week 10 bye to heal up but if he were to miss time, Mike Tolbert would once again launch up the ranks among running backs.

Texans QB Matt Schaub injured his ribs during Sunday’s loss to the Chargers and was visibly in pain during the game. Schaub is downplaying it and saying there is no injury but we’ll see how true that is as the week goes on.

Arguably fantasy’s best WR thus far Roddy White had his least productive game of the season Sunday against the Bucs but a knee injury is to blame. He had x-rays during halftime and returned to the game but it was obviously a issue in the second half. White appears to have avoided a serious injury but this is something to monitor going into week 10.

Giants WR Hakeem Nicks injured his ankle and sat out the fourth quarter in Sunday’s blowout win over Seattle. It’s likely he was held out as a precaution as the game was in hand from the 2nd quarter but we’ll keep an eye on this situation as the week goes on. Nicks finished with six catches for 128 yards and a touchdown along with 13 targets.

The Saints RB issues just keep on piling up as rookie Chris Ivory seperated his shoulder Sunday against the Panthers. With Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush still on the shelf, the Saints will have to rely on veterans Julius Jones and Ladell Betts to carry the load. Ivory’s timetable is yet to be known but i’d assume it’ll be a significant amount of time.

Kicker’s injured Sunday are Lions Jason Hanson suffered a leg injury during Sunday’s loss to the Jets and rookie DT Ndamukong Suh had to come in and attempt a extra point but shanked it off the right post. Hanson’s status for week 10 is yet to be determined but i’d look for other options this week. Patriots Stephen Gostkowski also left Sunday’s blowout loss to the Browns with a thigh injury and his status for this week is unknown but i’d also explore other options. Unlike Suh, Wes Welker came in and nailed an extra point for the injured Gostkowski and depending on your league’s scoring, you may have been able to pick up an extra fantasy point for that.

Bears News

LB Lance Briggs(ankle) was able to practice Friday and is expected to start Sunday. IDP leaguers get him back into your lineups against the Redskins.

Bills News

No Major injuries effecting your fantasy squad.

Broncos News

CB Champ Bailey(ribs) has the best chance at playing this week over the rest of the Broncos on the injury report. WR Eddie Royal(groin) participated in a limited fashion during Friday’s practice and will be a game time decision. If you have another option, use him over Royal who even if he does play won’t be 100%.

Browns News

RB Peyton Hillis(quadricep) is probable this week and should play in a pretty good matchup against the Saints. WR/KR Josh Cribbs (concussion) is expected to play Sunday. WR Mohammed Massaquoi(concussion) is listed as doubtful and likely won’t suit up against the Saints. Rookie QB Colt McCoy will get the start once again this week while QB’s Jake Delhomme(ankle) and Seneca Wallace (ankle) sit out.

Buccaneers News

RB Earnest Graham (hamstring) is questionable this week and isn’t likely to play Sunday. Cadillac Williams and LaGarette Blount are expected to shoulder the load in a good matchup against the Rams. TE Kellen Winslow(knee) practiced in full late this week and will play Sunday.

Cardinals News

WR’s Steve Breaston(knee) and Early Doucet (groin) are both being considered game time decisions. If you have other options or cannot wait until the 4pm game to make a roster decision, look elsewhere. Rookie WR Stephen Williams (back) is not likely to play Sunday and could miss some more time as he is dealing with a small fracture in his back.

Chargers News

WR’s Malcom Floyd and Legedu Naanee(hamstring) are both unlikely to play Sunday in what would be great matchup against the Patriots. TE Antonio Gates(toe) will be a game time decision, but many close to the Chargers believe Gates will play. RB Ryan Mathews (ankle) practiced in full Friday and will start. Mathews is a high end RB2 against the weak Pats defense.

Chiefs News

No significant Fantasy news.

Colts News

The Colts are on a bye this week, however they are just riddled with injuries. TE Dallas Clark(hand/wrist) was placed on IR ending his season. WR Austin Collie(foot) had surgery this week and will be sidelined at least two weeks. RB Joseph Addai (shoulder) is seeking a second opinion on his shoulder but sources say he will probably miss the next 4-5 weeks. There is nothing torn just some nerve damage. Donald Brown(hamstring ) would be first in line to start with Addai out but he just can’t seem to get healed up. Mike Hart would get the starting nod in Week 8 if Brown is unable to go.

Cowboys News

Dez Bryant (ribs/ankle) is fully healthy according to sources and will play Monday night against the Giants.

Dolphins News

No significant Fantasy News

Eagles News

Michael Vick(ribs) will not start Sunday but will dress and will be emergency QB. Vick is expected to return to a starting role in week 9 after next weeks bye. RB LeSean McCoy(broken rib) says his rib is not yet fully healed but has been playing through it and will continue to do so. NY Giants News

WR Hakeem Nicks(hamstring fatigue) will play Monday against the Cowboys. Nicks said its just some fatigue and will be fine.

NY Jets News

The Jets are on a bye this week and have no significant injuries.

Jaguars News

QB David Garrard(concussion) will not play Sunday. Coach Jack Del Rio will not announce a starter until Sunday. It will be between Trent Edwards and Todd Bouman, neither of which is a viable option.

Lions News

The Lions are on a bye this week. QB Matthew Stafford(shoulder) is expected to return and start week 8. LB Zach Follett(stinger) was released from the hospital and thankfully will be ok. He layed motionless on the field during Sunday’s loss to the Giants after getting hit by DE Jason Pierre-Paul. It looked a lot worse and luckily he was not severely injured.

Packers News

WR Donald Driver(quadricep) returned to limited practice Friday and is listed as probable. Driver is very likely to play so keep him in your lineups. LB Clay Matthews(hamstring) is going to play Sunday but more than likely will only play on passing downs. If you don’t have other options, you have to start him, but if possible, bench him for this week as his total snaps will be limited.

Panthers News

WR Steve Smith(ankle) practiced in full and will start Sunday in a good matchup against the 49ers. Smith also gets Matt Moore back at QB and is a solid WR3 with WR2 upside this week.

Patriots News

RB Fred Taylor(turf toe) will be out once again this week. BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead will split the carries and both are decent flex plays this week, especially Woodhead in PPR leagues. WR Julian Edelman(concussion) was limited at practice Friday and will be a game time decision.

Raiders News

QB Jason Campbell(knee) is likely to start Sunday unless he has a setback. He was able to practice on a limited basis the last few days so he should be good to go. This brings some value back to the Raiders receivers, who would have had little to none with Kyle Boller at the helm. Bruce Gradkowski(shoulder) is still unable to go. RB Darren McFadden is listed as questionable still but Coach Tom Cable believes he will play Sunday against the Broncos. Run DMC will likely split carries with Michael Bush and both are good flex plays.

Week 5 Fantasy Matchups (Breakdown of 1 O’clock Games)

By Mike Cannici

Jaguars @ Bills

The Jags are coming off a big home win against the Colts, a team that they have played well against in recent history. The Bills are coming off a blowout loss to the Jets. QB David Garrard has a really good matchup this week against the Bills and their 12th ranked pass defense. The Bills can’t get any pressure on the QB and Garrard can also make plays with his legs. Maurice Jones-Drew will match if not exceed last week’s performance this week against the league’s worst run defense. Mike Thomas is a solid flex play especially in PPR leagues this week as he is Garrard’s favorite target. Mike Sims-Walker needs to be left on benches until he can string together some consistency but is a good buy low candidate. TE Mercedes Lewis is also a good option this week as the Bills have allowed 3 TD and over 250 yards receiving to TE’s through the first four weeks.

The Bills were just embarrassed last week against the Jets at home after putting up a hell of a fight the previous week in New England. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a solid matchup play this week. The Jaguars rank 30th against the pass and 12th against the run. The Bills backfield has now changed with the trade of Marshawn Lynch; Fred Jackson will get the start, with C.J. Spiller rotating in. I like both these backs as flex plays especially in PPR leagues. Lee Evans, oh Lee Evans where have you gone. He is a flex play at absolute best but hopefully you have some better option. Stevie Johnson has caught a TD pass in each of the last two games and is good play in 12 team leagues at your flex spot. Rookie David Nelson had a great game last week with 75 yards receiving but we need to see a little more consistency from him before picking him up.

Giants @ Texans

Can Big Blue experience Déjà vu and play anywhere near the way they did last Sunday night against the Bears? That remains to be seen, but Texans QB Matt Schaub has been sacked 11 times this season and could be put on his butt quite a few times Sunday. Matt Schaub is still a solid start this week even with Andre Johnson and Jacoby Jones questionable. It appears Johnson will play though and is a must start. Jacoby Jones is highly unlikely to play so keep him on your bench. Kevin Walter is a solid WR3 or flex play especially in PPR leagues this week as Schaub will look for him a lot on underneath passes.

Owen Daniels and Joel Dreessen – Owen will also see an increase in targets with Jones out and a big boost if AJ were to not play or re-aggravate his injury. Daniels is a decent start this week while Dreessen shouldn’t be anywhere but on your bench or the waiver wire. Arian Foster could have a big day and is a solid RB1 right now the way he has been running.

On the Giants side, Eli Manning and this offense have been struggling to get into the end zone since Week 1. They’re putting up plenty of yards but are just not able to finish drives; they turned the ball over 4 times last week against the Bears. Eli makes for a great start this week as the Texans rank dead last in the league against the pass giving up an average of 337 yards per game. Ahmad Bradshaw was limited in practice all week with an ankle injury but is expected to start against the Texans 2nd ranked run defense. Bradshaw is a low-end RB2 this week. The Giants receivers, Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks are must starts, while Mario Manningham is a pretty decent flex play. Kevin Boss is not an option this week to be in your lineup. The key for the Giants is to put a lot of pressure on Matt Schaub and attempt to slow down Arian Foster. If they do those two things they should leave Houston with a 3-2 record.

Chiefs @ Colts

Who would have thought coming into the season that in Week 5 the Kansas City Chiefs would be 3-0 while the Colts would be 2-2 and 0-2 in the division. This is a big game for both teams; the Chiefs want to show us that they are for real, while the Colts are trying to get some type of momentum going. I believe both these teams are much better when playing at home and that’s what the Colts get to do this week. Peyton Manning is an obvious every week must start, and when at home puts up huge numbers almost every time. Joseph Addai will carry the load once again with backup Donald Brown on the shelf still with a hamstring injury. Addai has a tough matchup though as the Chiefs are currently the 6th ranked run defense in the league. WR Pierre Garcon is expected to return to the lineup after missing the last three weeks with a hamstring issue. He’s a decent WR3 and flex play especially if Austin Collie (foot) were to sit out. Collie is currently listed as questionable but is a very solid WR2 if he can go. Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark are obvious top options at their respective positions and should always be in lineups.

The Chiefs are coming off a bye this week and are the only undefeated team left in the league. I think this team has vastly improved under GM Scott Pioli and Coach Todd Haley, and I do think they’ll keep it close with their surprisingly good defense. Matt Cassel hasn’t been great but has played just well enough to help this team win. He is not a good start this week so leave him on benches or on the waiver wire. The Chiefs will try to exploit the Colts Achilles heel, their 29th ranked run defense, so look for Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones to have big days. Jones is a decent flex play as he could break a big run or two and punch one into the end zone. Dwayne Bowe and Dexter McCluster are super talented and both could have decent days, they’ll try and run some trick plays with Dexter and hopefully Bowe will be able to get open against the average Colts pass defense. Rookie TE Tony Moeaki is great start this week as the Colts haven’t played a TE talent like him yet. Moeaki is the best play of all the Chief receivers.

Buccaneers @ Bengals

The Bucs are coming off their bye week while the Bengals return home to try to recover from a loss against the other Ohio team, the Cleveland Browns. Bucs QB Josh Freeman is going to be a fine QB in this league but is no more than a QB2 this week as he is my 24th ranked QB. Cadillac Williams is a very poor play as he will now be splitting carries with rookie’s LaGarette Blount and Kareem Huggins. Unless all your RB’s are on a bye this week, keep Caddy out of your lineups. Rookie WR Mike Williams will have to deal with possibly the best CB tandem in the NFL in Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall so you hopefully have other options at receiver as well. TE Kellen Winslow is a mid level start this week as he could find space down the middle of the field and on check downs.

Terrell Owens is coming off one of the best games of his career last week where he tallied 10 catches for 222 yards and a TD. Owens seems to be QB Carson Palmer’s go to guy right now and is a very good WR2 this week while his counterpart Chad OchoCinco still makes for a solid WR3. Cedric Benson is a great start against the Bucs 28th ranked rush defense so make sure he is in your lineup. Rookie TE Jermaine Gresham is a very good start this week as well after having 12 catches over his last three games and Carson Palmer seems to be developing a good relationship with him.

Packers @ Redskins

The Packers head out on the road to face the Redskins who just defeated the Eagles minus Michael Vick. Packer QB Aaron Rodgers was just average last week in Detroit but I expect a bounce back against the Redskins pass defense that is ranked 31st in the league and giving up 305 yards per game. Greg Jennings, Donald Driver and TE Jermichael Finley are all must starts this week. The Packers lack of a run game may eventually catch up to them but so far they’ve been able to make do. Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn should definitely be rostered at the moment but left on your bench until they show us something legit.

Donavan McNabb is coming off an emotional victory last week in his return to Philadelphia where he didn’t play great (8-19 125 yards, 1TD, 1INT) but did have a great pass down the middle of the field to TE Chris Cooley for a 31 yd TD. McNabb is a good play this week at home especially with Safety Morgan Burnett out for the year as well a LB Nick Barnett. Chris Cooley also is a must start this week with those guys out , as well as that the Packers allowed 154 yards receiving to Lions TE last week. Santana Moss will bounce back from his zero catch performance last week and will have a solid day. He’s a high-end WR3 this week. Joey Galloway and Anthony Armstrong need to show some more consistency before you get anywhere near grabbing them in your leagues.

Rams @ Lions

This is a very interesting matchup, it would be even more interesting if the Lions had QB Matthew Stafford back as it would be a battle of the last two #1 picks. Nevertheless that won’t happen but we do get to watch Shaun Hill go against rookie Sam Bradford. The Lions almost made a great comeback against Green Bay last week but fell just short as they were unable to score TD late in the game and had to settle for field goals.  Shaun Hill is a great matchup or bye week filler start this week against the Rams 21st ranked pass defense. Hill is averaging 301 yards a game since replacing Stafford in 3 games. Jahvid Best is averaging 7.73 yards per touch on turf thus far and 3.3 yards per touch on grass. Best has a decent matchup at home on turf this week and could have a big day like he had back in week two against the Eagles when he totaled 232 total yards and 3 TD’s. He’s a low-end RB2 this week. Calvin Johnson had a solid game last week as well and look for him to have another big game this week. TE’s Tony Scheffler and Brandon Pettigrew are below average starts this week as the Rams have yet to allow a TE more than 53 yards or a TD this season.

QB Sam Bradford I like a lot this week as long as the o-line can hold up as the Lions will blitz the rookie early and often. If he can avoid getting hit and knocked down he’ll have a big day throwing to his favorite target Mark Clayton. Clayton is a solid WR3 as is Danny Amendola as a flex in PPR leagues. Steven Jackson is fully recovered from that groin injury and I have a feeling he will find the end zone at least once. The Lions rank 25th against the run so look for Jackson to have a big day. So to recap, your starting Sam Bradford if needed, Steven Jackson and Mark Clayton are must starts and Amendola is solid flex play in ppr leagues.

Bears @ Panthers

The Bears were just embarrassed last week in the New Meadowlands, especially in the first half and yet because of the ineptitude of the Giants to be able to score a TD trailed only 3-0 at the half. Jay Cutler suffered a concussion and is out for this weeks game. Todd Collins will get the start and shouldn’t even be on your radar and if he is, either you’re a terrible fantasy owner or are in a 2QB 14 team league. Matt Forte is a pretty good play especially in PPR leagues as Collins will check down to him a lot this week. WR’s Johnny Knox, Earl Bennett and Devin Hester should be benched this week. TE Greg Olsen is a solid start this week so get him into your lineups. Backup QB’s historically like to throw passes to the TE and RB’s which they consider their safety valves.

The Panthers almost notched a huge upset last week in New Orleans if not for 46-year-old John Carney kicking a field goal late in the game. Jimmy Claussen wasn’t great, but didn’t turn the ball over and managed the game fairly well. The biggest problem to come from that game for Carolina was the loss of Steve Smith to an ankle injury that’ll cost him a few weeks. The Panthers will rely heavily on their run game and DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are both good starts this week. WR’s Brandon LaFell and David Gettis will see the majority of the snaps but neither should be started this week until we see something. TE Dante Rosario could be the biggest winner here with Steve Smith being out but has not shown enough yet either to put in lineups.

Falcons @ Browns

The Falcons come off a late field goal to beat the 49ers last week 16-14. The Browns play much better at home and could stay in this game longer than expected. Matt Ryan is a great matchup play once again this week and Michael Turner and Roddy White are obvious must starts. White leads the league in targets per game with 12.5 which is pretty incredible. Harry Douglas is a decent play in PPR leagues even with Michael Jenkins expected back. TE Tony Gonzalez is the best TE that the Browns have faced yet to date. The Browns are giving up an average of 4.5 receptions and 43 yards per game to TE’s. Gonzalez is a must start week in and week out.

The Browns are expected to get Jake Delhomme back this week and that spells trouble. He is a turnover machine and that could be the lone reason why there out of this game early. Peyton Hillis who was limited in practice this week with a thigh injury is expected to play and is a solid RB2 this week and a good bet to get into the end zone at least once. Mohammed Massaquoi cannot be inserted back into lineups just yet, but his value should start to go up with Delhomme coming back. Massaquoi had 2 catches and a TD in week 1 before the Delhomme injury and has just 2 catches over the last three games. Ben Watson is a pretty good option at TE especially in PPR leagues. Jerome Harrison has little to no value unless Hillis were to sit or get injured so leave him on your benches for now.
