FantasySavvy 2012: Week 4 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

As seen on FP911.com. Make sure to check there for tons of great information. Also make sure to check our radio show tonight at 12 est directly following the game at blogtalkradio.com/fantasysavvy. Or you can download the show and listen on any apple device or directly from the site.

Week three, and all it’s craziness are in the books. The replacement refs will return for tonight’s game between the Ravens and Browns and maybe they can return some sanity. The regular Refs will return and no doubt will be praised early on even if they make some horrible calls initially, but eventually, just like all refs, they will be bashed and harassed and we may even demand the replacement refs back! While I didn’t think the replacement refs were good, there was definitely a lot overreaction in the media in my opinion. But the good news is, you don’t have replacement writers here at Fp911. My Girlfriend will not be filling in for me this week, nor will my Aunt Cindy be making my selections. No, no, there will be none of that. I am here and would never compromise our product. Paul Greco Dan Stack, Dan Leason, Colin Hager, Chuck Anderson and the rest of the guys are all here and will remain here week to week to provide you with the best Fantasy Football information we possibly can.

You won’t see the obvious names on here, that would be pointless. Maybe occasionally to give you a reminder, but rather we are looking to identify some guys that you may be on the fence with and encourage you to either start or sit them. Matchups will be broken down, stats will be used, some projections will be provided and some “gut” feeling will be mixed in. But when it comes down to the come down, it’s your “gut” you need to roll with.

*Players listed in order of projected effectiveness in the start ‘em category and ineffectiveness in the sit ‘em category.

Quarterbacks

Start ‘Em

Peyton Manning vs Oakland

I’ve been off on Manning for two weeks in a row, but this week I “guarantee” I will be right as he will produce nicely for your fantasy teams. Manning got the job done last week against an extremely tough Texan defense by throwing for 330 yards with two TD’s and has been great at home thus far throwing for nearly 600 yards with 4 TD’s and no INT’s. He stays in Denver this week against Oakland and should have his way against this secondary that is ranked 27th overall in defending Fantasy QB’s.

Joe Flacco vs Cleveland

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens

Cleveland’s secondary is just not the same without Stud CB Joe Haden and it’s showing in the numbers. The last two weeks they’ve been eaten up by Andy Dalton and Ryan Fitzpatrick and as a result are ranked 28th against Fantasy QB’s. Flacco may not have a huge yardage night but expect him to finish with around 250 yards passing with at least 2 TD’s.

Andy Dalton @ Jacksonville

Dalton could be coming into his own this season throwing back to back 300-yard three touchdown games. The matchups have helped against a Joe Haden less Browns secondary and an injury riddled Skins team, but nonetheless he’s producing at a high level. Jacksonville’s secondary hasn’t been bad this year ranked 10th overall against Fantasy QB’s, but I am a believer in Dalton and his weapons. The Bengals should have plenty of possessions with Blaine Gabbert’s ineffectiveness, so look for Dalton to get plenty of chances to score and find the endzone a few times.

Sit ‘Em

Jay Cutler @ Dallas

Cutler has been brutal after his big Week 1 showing, being held under 200 yards twice while throwing just 1 TD with 5 INT’s. Unfortunately for Jay, it does not get much easier against Dallas and their new and improved secondary. Dallas is currently allowing the fewest points to Fantasy QB’s and they will stay atop the charts after facing Cutler.

Jake Locker @ Houston

Locker was terrific against Detroit in Week three throwing for 378 with two TD’s, but the sledding gets rough this week against the Texans. I would not expect him to fare well against this top defense, so I advise you to keep the youngster reserved in this matchup.

Cam Newton @ Atlanta

Let’s hope this is the first and last time we have to put Newton on this list this season, but if he continues to play like he did last week against the Giants we might be seeing him here more often. Atlanta’s secondary has been great ranked 5th best in defending Fantasy QB’s as CB’s Asante Samuel and Dunta Robinson have been holding it down in the absence of CB Brent Grimes. Cam Newton also doesn’t have have great numbers against the Falcons with just two TD’s and 5 INT’s. You may not have a better option than Cam on your bench, but if you do, consider reserving him in this game.

Running Backs

Start ‘Em

Stevan Ridley @ Buffalo

Ridley was taken out of the gameplan last week against Baltimore but should return this week against Buffalo. The Patriots should be running often in this game as they should hold the lead for the majority of the game. Look for Ridley to approach 100 yards rushing and have a couple shots to reach the endzone.

Ryan Mathews @ Kansas City

Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers

Mathews made his 2012 season debut last week, but was somewhat limited in his return from his shoulder injury. It also didn’t help that the Chargers got blown out and Mathews didn’t have a chance to really produce. Expect Mathews to get going against Kansas City as he gets it done in both the passing and running game. I expect over 100 total yards with 4 to 5 catches and a possible score.

Cedric Benson @ New Orleans

To my surprise, Benson has been fairly involved in the Packers offense. He’s received nearly 40 carries in his last two games and is even catching some passes out of the backfield. He should definitely be in the gameplan this week against New Orleans and their last ranked Rush Defense. Benson should approach 100 yards and find the endzone in what will be a shootout at the Superdome.

Sit ‘Em

Chris Johnson @ Houston

If you have traded Chris Johnson, I can’t blame you with his atrocious 1.4 yards per carry. I mean what the hell happened to this dude? 1.4  ypc? I’m pretty sure you and I could go out there and average at least 2 yards per carry. Anyway if you can’t deal him he needs to remain benched until proven otherwise, plus, this matchup sucks. Hopefully Jake Locker continues to emerge this season and helps open up some holes for him.

Steven Jackson vs Seattle

Here is another guy that you will regret drafting. I spoke on it last week, I never understand the infatuation with this guy. I ranted on it already, but steer clear of Jackson against Seattle. The Seahawks defense is legit.

Ryan Williams vs Miami

Good news for Williams owners as Beanie Wells will be out until November with a turf toe injury. Williams also showed some life against Philly by rushing for 83 yards on 13 carries. But, keep Williams benched this week against Miami and their top 10 Run Defense.

Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em

Vincent Jackson vs Washington

Vincent Jackson, Tampa Bay Bucs

Jackson was a recommended sit last week against the Cowboys but he is a must-start against this injury decimated Washington Defense. The Skins secondary has allowed the most points to Fantasy WR’s in 2012 getting torched by Danny Amendola and A.J. Green the last two weeks.

Brandon Lloyd @ Buffalo

Lloyd and Brady are looking better and better every week and It could finally all come together in Buffalo. Lloyd has seen 25 combined targets the last two weeks and look for Brady to look his way often again on Sunday. Lloyd doesn’t have a score so far and only has one 100-yard game so there is still some time to buy low.

Torrey Smith vs Cleveland

I had Smith on my sit list last week, but had I known he was going to play despite his brothers death, I would of recommended him. We see it a lot where something tragic happens to these players and they go out, play and have a special performance. Much respect to Smith who went off for two TD’s against New England. After a slow start to the season I expect last week’s game to catapult Smith and he should enjoy another nice game tonight.

Sit ‘Em

Nate Washington @ Houston

There is that Houston defense again. Washington had an amazing catch last week which went for a TD, but reserve him in this game.

Brandon Marshall @ Dallas

Brandon Carr shutdown Vincent Jackson last week and I expect him to matchup with Brandon Marshall this week and contain him as well. Cutler has been brutal, the Dallas secondary has been superb, stay away from Marshall.

Danny Amendola vs Seattle

Amendola was slowed down against Chicago after he exploded against Washington and he could be slowed even more against Seattle and their physical corners. Brandon Browner and Co. will be up in the face of Amendola and I expect him to struggle. I like Amendola, I hate this matchup.

Tight Ends

Start ‘Em

Kyle Rudolph @ Detroit

Rudolph has 3 TD’s already this year and is proving to be Christian Ponder‘s favorite redzone target. Look for Rudolph to produce against the Lions who are allowing the 2nd most point to Fantasy Tight Ends.

Dennis Pitta vs Cleveland

Dennis Pitta, Baltimore Ravens

Pitta seems to be Joe Flacco‘s favorite option and it shows in the targets numbers as Pitta leads all Baltimore receivers with 31. Pitta should enjoy another nice game against Cleveland and is turning into an every week start.

Owen Daniels vs Tennessee

Daniels is finally healthy and has been steady so far this year. He finally reached the endzone last week and could return there again facing the Titans who are allowing the most points to Fantasy Tight Ends.

Sit ‘Em

Jared Cook @ Houston

Cook is the the 4th Titan to make the sit em list this week. Cook got into the endzone last week, but did come off a fluky big play. I expect Cook to remain inconsistent this year and he needs to be benched in unfavorable matchups such as this one.

Jason Witten vs Chicago

I thought Witten would get off the schnide last week, but he disappointed once again. Romo probably won’t have a bigtime game against Chicago, so that should mean Witten most likely will struggle again. Things will get better for Witten, but he needs to show it first before you start reinserting him back into your lineups.

Fred Davis @ Tampa Bay

After two slow weeks to start the season, Davis enjoyed a nice game last week going for 90 yards on seven catches. I’m still not convinced he’s going to be a favorite of RG3 this year or at least not right away so I am sitting him this week. Tampa Bay is also in the top 10 at defending the Tight End position.

IDP

Start ‘Em

Chris Clemons @ St. Louis

The undrafted Clemons had a monster game last week against Green Bay sacking Aaron Rodgers four times. Clemons has a great matchup against the Rams who allowed the most sacks in the league last year and are allowing the 2nd most sacks this year. Expect another nice performance.

Ed Reed vs Cleveland

Ed Reed, Baltimore Ravens

Ed Reed vs Brandon Weeden on National TV? Look for Reed to pick off Weeden at least once and possibly take one to the house.

Sit ‘Em

Cliff Avril vs Minnesota

Avril hasn’t gotten off to the start many people expected with just one sack this season after finishing with eleven last year. Keep him benched until he proves last season wasn’t a fluke.

Derrick Morgan @ Houston

Arian Foster and Ben Tate will be centerfolding this offense as usual, so Morgan won’t have many sack opportunities on Matt Schaub. The Texans offensive line has also allowed the 3rd fewest sacks.

1 O’clock Breakdowns

By: Al Squatrito

Ravens vs. Saints

The 10-3 Saints travel to take on the 9-4 Ravens who just toughed out a win against the Texans in overtime in week 14. The Ravens seem to have a well-balanced offense passing the ball around 33 times a game and running it around 29 times, but this Sunday they are going to have to take a different approach. The Ravens are averaging 3.6 yards a carry this year and are a little less explosive on the ground in 2010 opposed to 2009, however Joe Flacco is carrying more weight on his shoulders and that is the main reason why they have a 9-4 record. The Saints rank 5th against the pass this year and although they haven’t had as many takeovers on defense and pick 6 touchdowns this year, they are still getting off the field on third downs and playing solid defense. The Saints are giving up 4.3 yards a carry on the ground while the Ravens have given up 44 passing plays that have gone over 20 plus yards. Drew Brees is hot right now and is going to be very tough to stop despite that the Ravens are at home. Brees is averaging 41 pass attempts a game and with the Ravens giving up such big plays all season I don’t expect that number to go down. If the Ravens want to win this game they will rely heavily on the run and be creative with going back to the run all game. They are going to want to keep Drew Brees off the field all game and this should be Ray Rice’s best game of the season. Also, the cold weather calls for ground and pound and Ray Rice only has two touchdowns on the season. I like the Ravens to keep it close until late in the fourth. The Ravens were gassed last week in Reliant Stadium and allowed Matt Schaub to throw all over them.  Drew Brees has a quarterback rating of 93.6 while last year it was 109, I don’t think Drew has lost a step I just think he has some catching up to do. I like the Saints in this game 31-24.

Panthers vs. Cardinals

The 1-12 Carolina Panthers host the 4-9 Arizona Cardinals at Bank of America Stadium this Sunday and this game is going to be brutal. This is probably the worst game to watch this weekend unless you are fan of not seeing your team make the playoffs. The Panthers have a run game that tends to get hot at the end of regulation while the Cardinals are giving rookie quarterback John Skelton the nod at quarterback here on out. Skelton did not turn the ball over at all in last week’s win at home vs. the Broncos and Larry Fitzgerald seemed to have had some chemistry with him as well. The Cardinals don’t rank that well against the run but have a better job against it lately.  Maybe they can keep it going into week 15. I highly doubt that however and I expect Jonathan Stewart to have a solid game on the ground, even if the Panthers lose, the run game is the only thing they have going for them. I consider Larry Fitz a number 2 wide receiver this weekend. He hasn’t scored a touchdown since week 11 and some people would say he is due. I like the Cardinals to upset the Panthers at home 20-17.

Bengals vs. Browns

The Bengals will not lose 11 straight games in a row. It just isn’t going to happen. Oh yeah, they play the Browns in week 15 and they are at home so they can’t lose! Can they? The Bengals are literally emotionally and physically defeated headed into week 15 and this is the only reason why they can lose yet another game. Colt McCoy is getting the nod to start this weekend with Jake Delhomme serving as the Browns number 3 qb. If Jake was starting I truly wouldn’t believe in the Browns this weekend but Colt McCoy has been playing well and knows how to win. The Browns are ranked in the bottom half of the league against the run and pass and the Bengals have an advantage at home. The Bengals need to run the ball for all four quarters and not shoot themselves in the foot. Oh yeah, Carson Palmer has to pretend like he is an elite quarterback again and lead his team to a win. For the fans sake, for the Coaching staff, and for rest of the team, the Bengals need to win in week 15. I like Peyton Hillis as a solid number one running back this weekend while Terrell Owens and OchoCinco shouldn’t have any problems busting the game open through the air against the Browns pass defense. This is a game of revenge as the Browns upset the Bengals early on in the season contributing to their horrendous losing streak! I like the Bengals to beat the Browns up at home 28-17.

Cowboys vs. Redskins

The Cowboys handed the Redskins a win at Fed Ex Field in week 1 this season but the chances of that happening again are slim. Especially if Rex Gross starts, excuse me, Rex Grossman. Coach Shanahan is actually considering starting Rex Grossman this weekend because he truly believes (?) he gives the Redskins a better chance to win than Donovan McNabb? Give me a break Coach. The Cowboys pass rush is one of the best in the game and the Redskins offensive line is one of the youngest/worst in the game. Oh wait, Rex Grossman is not as elusive as Donovan McNabb inside or outside of the pocket. The Redskins don’t have the best weapons to throw to either. Coach Shanahan truly has to put these variables into consideration before benching McNabb. I know they aren’t going to the playoffs and there have been a lot of distractions inside that locker room, but what kind of a mess will you create or add to if you bench Donovan again this season. Swallow your pride Coach Shanahan. Rex doesn’t need any more evaluations he has truly earned his backup spot as a qb in the NFL, and now Coach, you are starting to earn your backup spot! I like the Cowboys to win this game at home because it is hard to lose two against a division opponent and the Cowboys are playing well together as of late. It is key to note that if Rex plays you can assure that Ryan Torain’s value will go down significantly along with the rest of the offense. Roy Williams (questionable) is a sleeper this week as a number 3 wide receiver and loves making plays against the Redskins defense. I think the Cowboys win this game 21-17 against Donovan, 28-10 against Rex.

Colts vs. Jaguars

Matt Millen calls the Colts/Jags game the game of the week this week; despite the fact that he may not know how to make a solid draft pick he may be right about this game being the game to watch in week 15. The Colts lost to the Jags earlier in the season and it was Josh Scobee who beat the Colts with a last minute field goal at the end of the game. The truth of the matter in this game is that the Jaguars have a great running game while the Colts are hit and miss with their run game. The Jags can clinch the division with a win against the Colts but they can’t shoot themselves in the foot.  David Garrard will have to take extreme care of the football if they want to win this game. This game should be a shootout all day and the Colts offensive line has to open up big holes for their running backs by committee. I like the Colts in this game because they are home and I would be way too impressed with the Jags if they went on the road to stop one of the most competitive professional quarterbacks of all time, it is possible, I wouldn’t be too surprised, but I still don’t see it happening.  MJD and Reggie Wayne should dominate your fantasy opponents this weekend or possibly your team if you are going against them. Jacob Tamme is also a brilliant start this weekend. I like the Colts to win this game by a field goal, a bunch of points should be scored in this game but then again, the Jaguars have a run game that can take the clock out so this game may not hit the 20’s. We shall see comes Sunday.

Dolphins vs. Bills

It is funny when analysts come up with the stat, when so and so rushes for a 100 yards their team has a great chance of winning. Really? I didn’t know your chances of winning skyrocket if your offense manages a 100 yards of rushing on the ground. Thanks for the knowledge. Fred Jackson is averaging 4.5 yards a carry, the Dolphins are giving up 3.6 yards a carry, and they are 1-5 at home this season. These are interesting stats when trying to predict the outcome of this game, but the truth is no matter what the stats are these two teams play each other well, they know one another. This game is going to be a close game regardless. I would be surprised if the Dolphins lost another home game and the Bills are the worst rush defense in the game. I expect Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown to dominate the ground game and surprise us with a running back option as we have seen from Ronnie Brown in the past. The Dolphins should bring back the wild cat a little more in this game and dominate the clock. I like the Dolphins chances of winning this game, and Lee Evans is out so it will be tough to see Steve Johnson do it all by himself. I like the Dolphins to win at home, 17-10.

Giants vs. Eagles

I know Matt Millen said the Jags/Colts game will be the game of the week, but what the heck does he know? This is the game of the week in reality. The Giants lost to the Eagles earlier in the season but this game will be played at home for the Giants. The Eagles have won their last 12 of 13 December games and the Giants are coming off of a short week but that shouldn’t be too much of a factor considering that they manhandled the Vikings last week and didn’t get too beat up. Asante Samuel may be back for this division rivalry game and Eli may suffer because of it. The Eagles have let up 26 passing touchdowns this year which gives Eli a vote of confidence but it has been the Giants run game that has been winning them games as of late. Eli needs to step up in order to give their team a much needed win. The Giants pass rush is probably the best in the game because not only are they second in sacks with 39, they are the true definition of quarterback killers! They just added Tavaris Jackson on that list as he is now on injured reserve. If I were Michael Vick, this is the only team I’d be nervous about because of this stat. This is the game of the week and you know the outcome of this game is going to be based on one or two key plays of the game. I don’t think Desean Jackson is going to be a huge factor in the game in terms of putting up big numbers. The Giants should key in on him all game and prevent a 200+ yard outing like he did last weekend against the Cowboys. I think the Giants matchup very well against the Eagles and have a slight edge at home this weekend to even up the score for the division. I like every athlete on both sides of the ball to get your fantasy team some fantasy points. I love Kevin Boss this weekend and think he will find the end zone, while I see Jason Avant and Jeremy Maclin having the bigger day out of the Eagles wide receiving core. Shady McCoy should have a solid game as well. I like the Giants to win this game by a field goal 24-21.

Rams vs. Chiefs

The Rams have been playing well at home all season where they are very tough to beat. However I think Sam Bradford is going through his rookie slump at this point and time during the year. The Chiefs know all about the Chargers and the rolls that they go on in December and will not take that fact lightly going into St.Louis this weekend. With Jam Chaz averaging over six yards a carry it won’t be a tough game for them to stay in, despite that they are away. I picture Sam Bradford shooting his team in the foot despite that they will still love him afterwards. Matt Cassel knows his game needs to stay at its best and will look to rebound from being out a week ago and keeping that connection between him and Bowe going. I like the Chiefs to pull out a win on the road 19-13.

Buccaneers vs. Lions

The 3-10 Lions will go on the road to face the 8-5 Buccaneers who are looking to make the playoffs in 2010. The Lions can be the spoilers of the week as Shaun Hill just may start in this game. The Buccaneers placed Quincy Black on injured reserve this weekend, cornerback Aqib Talib is out for the Bucs and has 6 picks on the year. Last but not least, first round draft pick Gerald McCoy was also placed on injured reserve. The Lions have nothing to be conservative about and hope they can only spoil opponents’ chances of making the playoffs. I believe the Lions will go into Tampa roaring and get Calvin Johnson the ball in space, early and often. I think Arrelious Benn will have the better day of the Tampa receiving core because of reports I have read earlier in the week on how great he is looking in practice and how fresh he seems to be. Blount should be a solid number two running back this week but even a better flex start. Calvin Johnson seems to be the only person on the Lions to give the nod to for fantasy purposes while Jahvid Best is still nursing turf toes. Maurice Morris seems to be the better start going forward for the rest of the way. This should be an interesting game fought in between the 20’s. I like the Lions to upset the Buccaneers on the road if Shaun Hill does in fact get the start. The Bucs have a lot of injuries to overcome and it will be tough to win even at home. I like the Lions to win 21-20.

Titans vs. Texans

Last time these two teams faced off the Texans shut out the Titans 20-0 but good old third string qb, Rusty Smith was behind center for the Titans. Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan fighting was the only thing exciting to watch last time they played while neither player got suspended for brawling towards the end of the game. I am excited to see them face up against each other post first fist fight! Matt Schaub is finally doing what we know he can do. This is the best 5-8 team I have ever seen and with Owen Daniels back in the lineup and feeling fresh, I like the Texans to sweep the Titans this year and go on the road to do it. The Titans defense isn’t what it used to be in 2007 and 2008 while teams can run and pass on their defense with ease. Kerry Collins isn’t called a statue for nothing and the Texans defense is finally starting to gel and make plays. I think the Texans will be too much for them in week 15. I consider every Texan a great start this week including Owen Daniels. The Titans have led up a lot more passing touchdowns (16) than rushing touchdowns (7) so I consider this trend to remain but that doesn’t mean Arian Foster won’t find his way into the end zone somehow this weekend. I like Chris Johnson this weekend of course but I don’t think he will carry his team to a win unless he starts returning kickoffs and punts. I like the Texans to win 24-17.

Thursday Night Preview

By Mike Cannici

49ers @ Chargers

This is a big divisional game between two teams who both trail their division leaders by one game. Who would have thought the way these two teams started that they would still have a shot at a division crown? Well actually I could have seen the Chargers come back as they virtually never lose in November and December. As far as the 49ers are concerned, the division is pitiful so they only need to get to .500 to win this thing which means win out.

From a Fantasy standpoint the 49ers go up against the 4th ranked run defense and the number one pass defense. Alex Smith had a big game in his return but expectations need to be tempered as it was against the woeful Seattle defense. Smith isn’t a great start and hopefully you don’t need him in your lineups if you’re an Aaron Rodgers owner since he’s likely to sit out this week. Brian Westbrook I only like in PPR leagues as I can’t see him being able to run too well against this stout defense. Anthony Dixon is the guy to go with in standard league’s as he has the potential for more carries and will definitely get the goal line carries. As far as the passing game, Vernon Davis is an obvious must start while Michael Crabtree I recommend leaving on the bench. Of course Josh Morgan could have a fluky good game but you don’t want to take that chance.

Leading the 7-6 Chargers, Phillip Rivers should be able to throw all day on this defense who allow an average of 19.5 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. As far as the backs, the Niners aren’t bad against the run but I do like both these backs as flex plays this week, meaning Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert. TE Antonio Gates is unlikely to go this week so you’re sitting him and with a week under his belt, I really like Vincent Jackson, (2-29 last week) he should start to get back to 09’ form. Malcom Floyd, who scored twice last week to go along with 51 yards is healthy and is a solid WR3. The 49ers have allowed 127 fantasy points to opposing wide receivers over the last two weeks in PPR leagues and 86 points in standard leagues. Only 1 of their previous three opponents have a passing attack that can rival San Diego’s so you definitely need to have VJax and Floyd in your lineups. In the end, I see the Chargers winning this game but I think it’ll be closer than most think. This is a very important game for both teams but fortunately for them, the two teams their chasing, the Chiefs and the Rams are playing each other so one of those teams will obviously have to lose as well. Enjoy the game everyone and we’ll see you live at midnight eastern time after the game on www.blogtalkradio.com/fantasysavvy

1 O’clock Breakdowns

Bills vs. Browns
The 5-7 Browns will go on their second road game in a row and try to beat the 2-10 Buffalo Bills in the cold . The Bills have been one of those teams that have been playing as hard as they can to show the world they are better than your average college football team but are 2-10 for a reason, or several. They have the worst rushing defense in the NFL and the only two teams that have a chance of being worse are the Cardinals and the Broncos. The Bills can play you tough at home and are coming off of a brutal loss to the Vikings in week 13. I picture Peyton Hillis and Fred Jackson putting their teams on their shoulders and having the most value for fantasy owners come Sunday. I think the Bills get their third win at home because Jake Delhomme is starting the Browns and the Browns are playing on the road for consecutive weeks. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be a very risky start this weekend especially since it is supposed to rain and snow in Buffalo. I like the Bills to win this one 19-16.
Panthers vs. Falcons
The 1-11 Carolina Panthers host the 10-2 Atlanta Falcons at Bank of America Stadium this Sunday. This is probably the worst game to watch this weekend unless you are an Atlanta Falcons fan. The Falcons have only allowed 6 rushing touchdowns against them this season while the Panthers only hopes of scoring is on the ground. Luckily they are home, but they rank 27th against the run and are 8th against the pass. That doesn’t mean Matt Ryan isn’t going to throw on them; he just might not throw all day on them and why should he? The Falcons are a run first team anyway and that’s all they have to do in this game. Michael Turner is the best start on the team fantasy wise while Jonathan Stewart is the only player worth starting for the Panthers. I don’t see Matt Ryan throwing more than a touchdown pass in this game and can be slightly risky if you need a lot of points from him. I picture the Falcons taking it easy but winning in this one. I like the Falcons to win 20-13.

Lions vs. Packers
The 2-10 Detroit Lions will host the 8-4 Green Bay Packers at Ford Field on Sunday. The Lions haven’t been getting any calls thrown their way and last week they got another unfortunate bogus call against them when the called Ndamukong Suh for a penalty for unnecessary roughness on Jay Cutler for throwing a forearm to his head while rushing for a first down. Ed Hochuli made a huge mistake giving the Bears a first down as they scored on the next play to make it 24-20 which was the final. This is twice in a row now that the Bears beat the Lions on two bogus game ending calls. Jay Cutler becomes a rusher when you pass the line of scrimmage which means unless you slide, anything goes. Also, looking back on the instant replay you will notice that no forearm blow was given out to Jay Cutler by Ndamukong, it just looked that way in regular time. Ndamukong Suh got fined 15,000 dollars for a penalty he did not even commit! What a shame. Ed Hochuli may be a good ref, but when it comes down to it he can make some pretty poor decisions. Regardless, the week must go on and the Lions will have their hands full once again as they will try to keep the game close with Drew Stanton to start for his second game this season. Running back James Starks ran tough last week and got the bulk of carries last week vs the 49ers. It will be interesting to see if the Packers will have some sort of running game going into the playoffs, with Starks I believe they will. Starks may be their savior and is the best waiver wire pickup in fantasy leagues this week. This is a nice matchup for Starks. Calvin and Javid Best seem to be noteworthy starts this weekend while Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, and James Starks are your noteworthy fantasy players you may want to plug-in your fantasy lineups this week. James Starks will get the bulk of carries for the Packers. I see the Packers beating the Lions on the road, 31-24.

Jaguars vs. Raiders
The Jacksonville Jaguars (7-5) will host the Oakland Raiders (6-6) this Sunday at home while the Raiders are coming off an astonishing win last weekend against the Chargers. These are two run first teams that know how to pound the rock. Maurice Jones-Drew has 100 yards rushing in his last five outings while Darren McFadden (Run DMC) is averaging 4.9 yards a carry and is leading his team to victories along with backfield partner Michael Bush. This should be a great battle between the two teams who are both in the playoff hunt. The Jags have the slightly better passing game while Garrard’s quarterback rating is 92.6 and Jason Campbell’s is only 78. However this game is going to be won and lost inside the trenches and I picture Garrard keeping some drives alive running for first downs throughout the game. Jacoby Ford, Darren McFadden, and Michael Bush seem to be the only fantasy players you could start for the Raiders while Maurice Jones-Drew is a must start and Garrard, Mike Sims-Walker and Mike Thomas are possible options for the Jaguars. Sims-Walker will probably be lined up against Nhamdi Asomugha so you may want to look elsewhere.  I like the Jaguars because they are home this weekend and they better beat the Raiders if they want to stay in first place in the AFC South. I think the Jaguars win this game 24-20.
Vikings vs. Giants
The 8-4 Giants will travel to Minnesota to take on the 5-7 Vikings. Ever since Leslie Frazier has taken over they have been on a roll winning two straight games, maybe they can make it three as the Vikings have matched up well against the Giants in the past with Eli under center. This is an interesting matchup for Eli Manning and the Giants run game as the Vikings are fourth against the rush while the Giants run game is at its best right now with a legit two-headed monster. I still think the Giants are going to be able to run the ball on the Vikings because the Giants can pass against anyone, opening up the run. The Vikings aren’t a team to naturally score a lot of points early in a game against a great opponent so the Giants run game should fare well.  I like Sidney Rice, Adrian Peterson, and former Giant Visanthe Shaincoe to do some damage against the Giants at home while Eli Manning seems like a shaky start considering his record against the Vikings (from previous games). However,  the Vikings pass defense is where they remain vulnerable on defense and one would assume Eli should have a decent day against them with Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith both returning for this matchup. I think Eli, Hakeem, Brandon Jacobs, Steve Smith, and Ahmad are all number two starts this week in fantasy while Adrian, Shiancoe, and Rice have more upside. I like the Vikings in this game to upset the Giants at home because their defense is playing well and they have nothing to lose. Vikings  23-21.

Steelers vs. Bengals
The 9-3 Steelers take on the 2-10 Bengals but their records are definitely misleading as they matchup very well with one another and the Bengals should not be counted out. The Bengals have lost 9 games in a row! Holy smokes! Still, the Bengals just played the former Super Bowl champs at home last weekend and will be on top of their game this weekend against the Steelers, you better believe it. The Steelers played a huge game last weekend to be on top of their division and are a little beat up post the Ravens matchup. This is going to be a slug match for four quarters but I think the Bengals are going to slip away with the win in the end through a turnover or special teams play that decides the game. Mike Wallace, and Rashard Mendenhall seem to be the only fantasy players you can have faith in this weekend for the Steelers. I think Rashard has the most upside while Wallace is a step behind him. Carson Palmer can’t play any worse and the Bengals have nothing to lose, but you still can’t rely on him. I can’t picture the Bengals losing ten straight even though it is possible. Terrell Owens is the only fantasy option you should feel confident about this weekend. OchoCinco played better last week and isn’t a terrible flex this weekend. I like the Bengals to win this game 17-14.

Redskins vs. Buccaneers
The 5-7 Redskins will host the 7-5 Buccaneers home at Fed Ex Field on Sunday and it may be another ugly loss for the Skins. The Redskins have been falling apart ever since the Lions beat them and Donovan McNabb was pulled for the two-minute drill in the fourth quarter. Their offensive line isn’t playing well and deserves a lot of the blame. Albert Haynesworth should change his nickname to Big Baby while he will be suspended for the rest of the season. This Skins team is in turmoil and Mike Shanahan may have lost the locker room. Ryan Torain is expected to be back and provide a spark for the Redskins zone running scheme but who really knows as James Davis and Keiland Williams are still expected to see touches. Don’t put too much faith in Torain in his first game back and still sharing carries.

The Buccaneers on the other hand have a young team that are rallying around each other and will bring their A game to Washington this week as they are in the playoff race. I like Mike Williams who is a contender to be the rookie of the year this season. LeGarrette Blount should have a huge fantasy day in this matchup against the skins terrible Run D ranked 28th. The Redskins are also brutal against the pass ranked 29th so Mike Williams and Josh Freeman both should be successful. I like the Buccaneers in this game because they have everything going for them while the Redskins have everything going against them. The Buccaneers will win this game 21-20.
