Best Waiver Adds- Week 11

AHHHHHHHH, Sorry had to get some built up emotions out. This fantasy season has been kind of nutty, especially when you’re in as many leagues as I’m in, which is way too many. Some of these guys I have drafted, dropped, picked back up, dropped again, picked up, dropped and then they finally go off. Case in point, Denarius Moore. I’m sure a lot of you share the same frustration as me. I also get mad at myself for not trusting my instincts more. I own Murray in some leagues, but to me I should own him in every league! Anyway time is winding down, only 3 weeks left to the playoffs in most leagues where the post-season starts in Weeks 14, 15 and 16. I have mentioned some of these players in past editions, but will repeat them again. We also will go in-depth about two 1st round QB’s that many consider busts from the 2006 draft. I have a lot to say about these two guys and they both sway from the popular opinion, feel free to comment below. I will try to talk about just the most noteworthy guys and will rank them according to how valuable I believe they will or can be.

Also please follow us on Twitter @ Twitter.com/FantasySavvy and like our facebook page. . Kendall Hunter, San Francisco 49ers

Kendall Hunter needs to be picked up asap if availble

Have loved this guy all year and as the 49ers continue to pound the run, I think Gore, who is already nicked up with the ankle, will continue to wear down as the season goes on. I do think we will soon be looking at Frank Gore missing some games ahead or at the very least Kendall Hunter starting to become more of a factor and getting more carries. The bottomline is, Hunter needs to be added in all leagues where available. He is a very talented, multi-dimensional back. If Gore does miss time, Hunter will become a rock-solid RB2. Add him, stash and don’t let go.

Matt Leinart, Houston Texans

95% of people have written Leinart off, pretty much every so-called Fantasy “Expert” is saying he really doesn’t have much value. I disagree. It’s not that I am saying Leinart will start producing at a high rate, but the guy deserves a fair chance. Has he really ever gotten one? No, Leinart has 16 career starts! That’s one season. But because couldn’t beat out Kurt Warner, arguably a Hall of Fame QB and SuperBowl MVP and Ken Whisenhunt completely gave up on him without giving him a fair shake, he’s done. It’s just ridiculous and it shows you how people just latch onto the popular opinion and run with it. Again the guy has had 16 games as a starter, granted the numbers stink 14 TD’s to 20 picks, but again he deserves a chance.

The question is, did Leinart mature after we heard about his poor work ethic and lack of interest. Leinart would have retired, if he just wanted to give up, he knows this is his chance to prove people wrong. He comes into an excellent situation in Houston with Arian Foster, Ben Tate and this dominating offensive line. Andre Johnson will also return. Leinart has no excuses now, he’s went through or should have went through the maturation process, has been on the sidelines long enough and has plenty of talent around him. This Texan team has a shot to big things and Leinart has the chance to do big things. I’m not completely sure how Leinart will do, but I for one still have faith in this guy. I still think given the surroundings and what he’s been through, that he can succeed. The reward heavily outweighs the risk here. Leinart could really prove to be an excellent add during this stretch run. If you are a Schaub owner or have problems at QB, you must add Leinart and hope that he can revive his career here. Don’t listen to the naysayers, make sure you add Leinart, I think the chances of him succeeding are higher than the chance of failure. Give Matt Leinart time, a good play action game and he can hurt you and that opportunity awaits him.

Denarius Moore, Oakland Raiders

How frustrating is this guy? Hyped up in the pre-season, we heard tons of good things about him. Many owners drafted him as a sleeper. The early signs were promising, but then he disappeared and did absolutely nada for 4 weeks. Mostly everybody, including myself dropped him from their roster only to see him go off last Thursday night and catch two TD’s and go over 100-yards. Simply put, Moore needs to be added now with Carson Palmer at the helm. He could finish this season fairly strong. He has the speed, and athletic ability to produce. He will be heavily targeted by Palmer. If you dropped him, make sure you try to get him back this week. If you held onto him, well props to you for sticking to your guns and staying patient. Moore could also proved to be a protectable in keeper leagues.

Vince Young, Philadelphia Eagles

Another QB many have given up on, but again I question why? If you look close or have watched Vince play as much as I have, you would realize he only has progressed as a QB since he came into the league. In his last 18 games, Vince has 20 TD’s to just 10 Int’s. The reason Vince got shipped off was his attitude and injuries. Ever since that Incident in 2008 when he was on supposed “suicide watch” Jeff Fisher lost faith in him. It was obvious time and time again, first in 2009 when Kerry Collins and the Titans started 0-6 and Fisher refused to go to Vince, it took the Owner Bud Adams to get Vince in there. What did Vince do? He led the team to five straight wins and the Titans won 8 out of their last 10 games finishing 8-8 and nearly making the playoffs. Young might of saved Fisher’s Job. However last year in week 2 Vince was struggling vs one of the best defenses in the league in the Steelers and Fisher benched young in the 3rd quarter to go with Collins. In Week 2!!!! Vince started to build resentment for Fisher at this point, he knew the coach had lost faith in him, but why? Didn’t he just save your job pretty much the year before? A couple of weeks later, Vince was hurt again. Most believed Vince was ready to go the following week, but instead Fisher went with Collins and then finally back to Vince again. Then we all remember Vince got hurt once again against Washington, Vince wanted to come back into the game, but Fisher denied the request and Vince blew up. Now he shouldn’t have blown up, that was just an immature move, but at the same time his frustrations had reached a boiling point with Fisher. These two needed to be separated and Vince was the first to be let go and then Fisher left as well. Bottomline is Fisher never wanted Young, he lost faith in him after the suicide incident and never regained trust in Young. Young couldn’t deal with the constant doubt and blew up, he was wrong, but I can understand where he was coming from.

Vince then landed in Philly, behind another QB people had left for dead in Michael Vick. This was best for Vince, take a year to relax learn from Vick’s successes and absorb the game from the sideline. But now it looks like Young might get a chance to start in Week 11. This will be his chance to showcase himself and possibly land a starting  job somewhere else next year. I don’t believe Vince Young sucks or his done like many do. I do admit I have probably defended Vince Young more than anyone, but the defending is just and fair. He only has gotten better as a QB, watch the games, look at the stats. The one thing I would like to see Vince do is run more, he needs to be more of that instinctual player he was in Texas and his rookie year. He became so concerned with becoming a pocket passer that he stayed there too much and didn’t run as much as he used to.

So Vince might get the start and will take the Giants on, Sunday night in the Meadowlands. Remember the last time he faced the Giants? Check out that clip, you should all remember when he led that comeback. Vince Young is a champion, he has that “It” the question iscan he find that “It” once again. Vick owners, Grab Young if you haven’t already, keeper league owners, grab Young as well. You also never know with Vick, he could get hurt again when he returns and Young could finish this season. If he gets lengthy playing time he should produce nicely.

Vincent Brown, WR, San Diego Chargers

This guy came out of nowhere last week to go for 5 catches 97 yards and a TD. He really could end up being a nice option going forward on this Chargers team. Malcolm Floyd is always hurt, Gates could end up hurt again and Brown should does have talents. He should have had another TD last Thursday, but it was called back because the refs said Lito Sheppard had a hand on the ball while he was out-of-bounds. Made no sense to me, Brown had true possession of it. But I like Brown, he’s athletic and Rivers was targeting him heavily. He has a good offense around him, Norv likes to throw, Rivers can get him the ball, pick up Brown, I think he emerges as a consistent option going forward.

Mark Clayton, WR, St. Louis Rams

Clayton returned from injury last week and only received 10 snaps as he was eased back in. As most of us know, Clayton was tearing it up as Bradford’s favorite target before getting injured last season. With the injuries to Danny Amendola, Danario Alexander, Greg Salas etc. Clayton will have a legit chance to be a factor again. He’s always been talented and finally seemed to be putting it together last year before the injury. He’s worth an add, and I would stick with him, even if he struggles for the next two weeks. I think he could start to emerge down the stretch year as Bradford gets more comfortable and starts finding Clayton once again.

Rest of the Rest

Ed Dickson, TE, Baltimore Ravens, Flacco is showing he stinks, but at least he’s still hitting Dickson who had two TD’s last week. Could be available on wires after some owners gave up on him.

Damien Williams, WR, Titans- Starting to heat up with scores in 4 of last 6 games, good route runner, definitely worth a pickup with a competent Hasselback throwing him the ball.

Jacob Tamme, TE, Colts- Painter is the worst and could be benched this week, but last week Tamme showed his talents like he did last year and finished with 70 yards receiving. Could be nice little add while Clark continues to be out, even with the terrible QB play.

Lance Ball, RB, Bronc0s- Might never see 30 carries again in his career and I have doubts that he will ever really be productive, but if McGahee and Moreno keep getting hurt, he will produce a bit.

Dion Lewis, RB, Eagles, If McCoy goes down Lewis will be the back to own not Brown. Lewis has some of the skillset that McCoy has.

Best Waiver Adds- Week 8 Edition

Picking up these players each week is like shopping in a thrift store. The items are cheap, sometimes old and rusty, but still usable, sometimes new and unused but end up proving not to be of much use. The key is finding the items that not only look the best, but that will serve your needs and be something you will continue to use after the purchase. Let’s try to find the most worthy items this week. The following players are ranked in order.

*Check out last week’s edition here http://fantasysavvy.com/2011/10/19/best-waiver-adds-week-7-edition/

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints

Most of the pickups this week are back up running backs. With that said, Pierre Thomas is the most valuable of all of them. He could be rostered in most leagues, but with Ingram’s heel injury he will most likely be snatched up this week. Ingram’s injury doesn’t sound serious, but if something does happen to Ingram or Sproles, Thomas would become extremely valuable. If you have running back problems or own Sproles or Ingram, make sure to pick up Thomas if you can.

Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

Hines Ward has had a great career, but he is slowly starting to break down more and more. He suffered an ankle injury in Week 7 and his status for week 8 against New England is in question. Both Brown and Sanders are the future replacements and this is a week to snatch these two up. I would go with Brown first then Sanders, but both could have nice games in what could be a shootout against the Patriots. They also both hold value for the rest of the year as Big Ben continues to heat up as the year goes on. Brown had 7 catches for 104 yards last week and Sanders had 5 catches for 46 yards and a TD. If you need wideout help, pick both of these guys up starting with Brown.

Jabar Gaffney, WR, Washington Redskins

With Santana Moss on the shelf for 5-7 weeks, Gaffney will step in as the #1 WR in Washington. Gaffney should get a lot of looks, but the problem is he really isn’t a true #1. Same time, he’s definitely worth a pickup and should produce for your team somewhat. The biggest thing is Moss is out for a good while, so Gaffney will be useful. Expect a lot of 5 catch 60 yard games with 1 or 2 TD’s while Moss is out, anything else is a bonus.

Taiwan Jones, RB, Oakland Raiders, Phillip Tanner, RB, Dallas Cowboys

From a talent standpoint, but of these guys have it. They both hit the hole well and run hard. McFadden as you know gets hurt each year and is hurt once again with a foot injury. The Raiders have a bye week this week and Mcfadden will have time to rest, but at the same time Jones is worth owning because of his talent. As far as Tanner, Tashard Choice really isn’t the same back and is hurt as well, so Tanner will most likely take on a role while Felix Jones continues to be out. DeMarco Murray also isn’t the most durable back, so there is a likely chance Tanner could end up having a more important role as the season goes on. It’s worth a shot to add both of these guys based on their upside.

Evan Moore, TE, Cleveland Browns

Moore showed off his talents in the pre-season, but has done little in the regular season. With fellow TE Ben Watson injured with a concussion, Moore will get a chance to contribute. You never know with Concussions, so who knows how long Watson will be out. Pick up Moore as he is talented and hope that he finds that he rapport back with McCoy.

Kregg Lumpkin, RB, Tampa Bay Bucanneers

Lumpy!!! as we call him in one my leagues, is going to end up having a role on this Bucs team with Earnest Graham hitting the IR today. He isn’t as talented as Tanner or Jones, but is the direct #2 behind LeGarrette Blount who is struggling wtih an injury himself. Tampa Bay has a bye week this week, but if Blount isn’t ready to go, Lumpkin will be the guy. Lumpkin doesn’t have much promise, but is worth an add if you are a Blount owner or need RB help now that Graham is out for the year.

Alfonso Smith, Larod Stephens-Howling, RB, Chester Taylor Arizona Cardinals

Beanie Wells escaped serious injury, but it appears he will be at out least 1-2 weeks with a knee injury. I personally like Howling as a better pickup, because he is just much more explosive and has more upside. Smith will be the goal line back however and could end up getting more touches overall. Chester Taylor is also in the mix, but it’s unclear how much of a role he will have, it appears Smith and Howling will get the most looks as they did in Week 7. Go with Howling first then Smith then Taylor. Beanie Wells is another back who is often injured so it’s worth stashing these backups.

Michael Jenkins, WR, Minnesota Vikings

The rookie Christian Ponder targeted Jenkins often and even hooked up with him for a score in Week 7. That said Jenkins is what he is, not overly talented and highly inconsistent. If you are in dire need of WR help, Jenkins is worth an add, but don’t expect much.

Visanthe Shiancoe, TE, Minnesota Vikings, Daniel Fells, TE, Denver Broncos

Shiancoe has always been talented, but has struggled with injuries the past two years. He’s been healthy this year, but Donovan Mcnabb was just so brutal constantly throwing balls into the dirt. Like fellow teammate Michael Jenkins, Shiancoe saw 8 targets and also scored. Rookie QB’s like to rely on the TE and Shiancoe could end up having some nice performances to finish the fantasy season.

Fells had a great catch which set up the tying score against Miami and similar to Shiancoe, Fells is playing with an inexperienced QB who could rely on a big target. Fells doesn’t have much speed, but has good hands and can get some separation.

Weekend Update with Kevin Lewis

Kevin Lewis will be doing this article each week discussing some of the important happenings from the previous weekend. If you have any questions or want him to add certain things to the article shoot him an email at Kevlew24@gmail.com. Thanks for reading FantasySavvy.com and make sure to check out our radio show at Blogtalkradio.com/FantasySavvy. We did a show last night and were looking to do another on Thursday night. Stay Tuned!

Jamaal Charles is out for the season. That’s such a shame for a variety of reasons but this is a fantasy website so I’ll keep it fantasy based. I took him top five in two different leagues and one of those leagues is a 16 teamer with a good 10 bench spots. I’m screwed. On a more personal note, a speedy recovery for Jamaal Charles.

Roscoe Parrish is on IR. The Buffalo Bills passing game looks good and their pass defense looks bad. David Nelson should get plenty of opportunities to do his thing.

With Jamaal Charles out, and Thomas Jones being a fossil, the smart thing for Kansas City to do would be to give Dexter McCluster a good amount of touches. He’s explosive and their offense is struggling. If he is available, go grab him.

If you can do so, trade Knowshon Moreno. Besides the fact that he is immensely overrated, he doesn’t help in the receiving game and is always hurt. McGahee looks better than Moreno as he went for 101 yards last week. I avoided Moreno like the bubonic plague in every league and I am thankful I did.

CJ Spiller has me in a total conundrum. I don’t know whether to drop him or hope that he comes around. It’s Fred Jackson’s team, he’s the main back, and Spiller got four carries this past week. Unless you’re in a deep sixteen team league it’s hard to say to keep the guy. I’m finding it hard to do so myself.

Daniel Thomas made his NFL debut with a bang. 18 carries, 107 yards. The Dolphins don’t have a good RB on their roster, so who knows what this guy can be? He should be an integral part of their offense.

Take a chance on Mike Sims-Walker. He looked good Monday night, Amendola is out and Walker is a reliable target. Bradford is a good developing QB as well. He won’t put up superstar production but he should give you a little something every week.

Pick up Ryan Fitzpatrick. If he somehow is still available, pick him up.

Do NOT drink the Cam Newton koolaid. I’m not saying you can’t start the guy and be well off. I’m saying don’t trade a steady to great QB you have, thinking you can get by. Newton bound to slip eventually. He’s human and he’s a rookie in the NFL.

Arian Foster reinjured his hamstring. If you were smart enough to take Ben Tate, you should now reap the benefits. The more he performs the more playing time he will get, regardless of how healthy Foster is.

Roy Helu got 10 carries Sunday and managed 72 yards. I know it was against the Cardinals, but Helu is just flat out the best Redskins RB (albeit that isn’t saying much). Eventually Shanahan will realize this, I believe.

Fantasy Savvy- Start Em Sit Em Week 2

By Kevin Lewis

QB’s To START

QB Rex Grossman, WSH – I never ever thought I would put Rex Grossman’s name here as a “start em” candidate but his play in Washington so far has earned him some praise. In four starts as a Redskin, Grossman has 1,145 yards pass with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s going against the same Arizona Cardinals defense that gave up 422 yards passing to Cam Newton this past Sunday. Grossman is a must start this week, as I think he puts up huge numbers.

QB Chad Henne, MIA- Also file Henne under the surprise in the “Start Em” category. He did throw for 400+ against the Patriots on Monday night and the Houston secondary is spotty until proven otherwise. Their scrimmage against the Colts meant little by way of evaluation. Couple the fact that Houston will score repeatedly meaning more pass attempts  and you have a big game for Henne. I think he goes for 300+ and at least 2 again.

QB Ben Roethlisberger, PIT- Only reason he is here is the fickle nature of fantasy football owners. I’ll keep this short and simple. I know he stunk last week, but he’s Ben Roethlisberger and he’s playing against the Seahawks this week. Take this to the bank.

SIT

Ryan Fitzpatrick, BUF- Fitzpatrick has turned out to be a decent fantasy option over the course of the last two years. Since he took over last year only Peyton Manning and Drew Brees have thrown more touchdowns. That being said, I think it is more of a fluke than anything else. Oakland can rush the passer, and I think Oakland’s running game keeps Fitzpatrick off the field enough to negatively affect A) his rhythm B) his # of opportunities.

Kevin Kolb, ARI- The Skins did a good job in flustering Eli Manning last week. I like the Redskins defense this year and I think Kolb could be a little risky with the football this week leading to a couple turnovers.

Sam Bradford, STL- Bradford is already banged up, he still has no WRs, the playcalling seems exactly the same as it was last year and the Giants will be looking for revenge. Now it’s still early and all of the Rams woes can turn around but I wouldn’t rely on Bradford this week, especially given the fact that he’s wounded.

Matt Cassel, KC- I’m not a big believer in Cassel to begin with for a variety of reasons. Add that the limited time he had to work with his targets in the offseason, a brutal performance last week, and that Detroit defensive line and you have several reasons to sit him this week.

RB’s To Start

James Starks, GB- It’s quite clear to even the untrained eye that James Starks is the best running back on the Packers roster. Starks had 12 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown last week against the Saints. This Panthers team let up 102 yards to Beanie Wells last week. Starks is a better back, so he should make the most of his opportunities this week.

LeGarrette Blount, TB- He will not contribute much in the passing game, and needs game conditions to be ideal to be a good start. That being said, do not rush to judgment based on last week’s game. He will get more carries this week and should be productive. Do not panic.

Tim Hightower, WAS- Hightower had 97 total yards and a touchdown last week against the Giants. Arizona’s defense is very spotty and in PPR leagues he should contribute coming out of the backfield.

SIT

Mark Ingram, NO- Chicago’s defense is nasty. Mark Ingram is in his second professional game and given the nature of the Bears defense, Darren Sproles will see a lot of playing time I believe. I like Ingram this year but not Sunday.

Ladainian Tomlinson, NYJ- Tomlinson was instrumental in helping the Jets in their comeback effort against the Cowboys. He had just five carries for 16 yards, but also had six catches for 73 yards. The Jets should be ahead in this game, which means Tomlinson won’t be needed as much as a receiver. And with Greene expected to get the bulk of the carries, Tomlinson’s production should take a significant hit.

DeAngelo Williams, CAR- The Packers run defense was up to its usual self  against the Saints by holding Mark IngramPierre Thomas and Darren Sproles to a combined 78 rushing yards on 20 attempts. Sproles and Thomas did combine for 112 receiving yards on 11 catches, but Williams has shown he isn’t a factor in the passing game. He also struggled in Week 1 at Arizona with 12 carries for 30 yards and one catch for 6 yards, and don’t be surprised if he has another low total this week.

WR’s To Start

Mario Manningham, NYG- I expect Nicks to be limited, and I expect the Giants to take advantage of a leaky secondary. Both things being considered, I expect Manningham to bounce back from his four catch, 47 yard output last week. Start him with confidence.

Santana Moss, WAS- Moss is coming off a solid game against the Giants with six catches for 76 yards on a team-high eight targets. The Cardinals looked lost on defense in Week 1 against the Panthers when they allowed 13 catches for 269 yards and two touchdowns to receivers All the Redskins receiving targets are viable plays this week, but Moss is unquestionably the best of the bunch.

Jordy Nelson, GB- The Panthers secondary let up 300+ yards to Kevin Kolb and the Cardinals last week. They face arguably the best set of WRs in football this week. Nelson went for 6 catches and 77 yards against the Saints and was targeted eight times. I expect that trend to continue. He’s a solid start as your #3.

Sit

Chad Ochocinco, NE-I took him in two of my leagues but I’m not panicking. That being said, if he’s having trouble picking up the playbook and the Pats just put up 512 passing yards on the Dolphins, what makes anyone think he’s going to get significant playing time this week? Unfortunately I think Ocho has to actually do something before getting back into the starting lineup.

Julio Jones, ATL- The Eagles have an incredible secondary, and if last week was any indication they’re going to have some issues in pass protection. In his second professional game, it’s probably a good idea to sit Jones down.

Mike Thomas, JAC-Thomas was great for PPR owners in Week 1 when he had eight catches for 55 yards on 11 targets, but  in a standard league those numbers aren’t very attractive. This week, Thomas will struggle going against Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie this week. Leave him on the bench.

TE”s To Start

Aaron Hernandez, NE- This will probably be the last time he’s listed here as from here on out it should be common sense to start him. That being said, even against an excellent pass defense he should get his. Hernandez lines up everywhere and that should help his production all year. Start him with confidence.

Brandon Pettigrew, DET- The Chiefs allowed Bills tight end Scott Chandler to score two touchdowns last week on five catches for 63 yards. Pettigrew had a productive game in Week 1 at Tampa Bay with four catches for 57 yards, but he should improve this week based on the matchup. Eric Berry being out will be critical to the Chiefs secondary.

Tony Gonzalez, ATL: Gonzalez had five catches for 72 yards on seven targets against the Chicago Bears, and he should play well again this week. The smart way to attack Philadelphia’s defense is over the middle since they have amazing cornerbacks, and Gonzalez could be featured in this matchup. Last year at Philadelphia he had three catches for 19 yards and two touchdowns, and he’s worth starting this week in the majority of leagues.

SIT

Dustin Keller, NYJ- While Keller will be good this year I believe, with an injured CB and the fact that the Jets are trying to reinforce the run this week I’d stay away from Keller.

Jared Cook, TE- The Ravens defense is excellent. While a TE is a QB’s best friend, Cook should struggle this week with Hasselbeck throwing him the ball against a great Ravens defense.

Zach Miller, SEA- This one is easy. The Steelers got embarrassed last week. The Seahawks are going against the Steelers this week. Tarvaris Jackson is his QB. Don’t start him.
