Fantasy Savvy Player Rankings Week 13

With one week before the playoffs, I had to get these rankings out to you. We know you need them, so I am are here to deliver. It should be noted that these rankings aren’t your typical sissy rankings. Sometimes certain guys just need to be ranked higher or lower based on what has been happening of late or because of a certain matchup. I see a lot of these rankings that are just so robotic based on a players past history and name recognition. If the guy hasn’t been doing it all year or has a certain matchup then he needs to be dropped in the rankings, on the other hand if you have a guy who has been hot in recent weeks and has a nice matchup, he deserves to be moved up. In other words, a lot of these other sites have NO BALLS, they take the “Safe” route, because most of them are real life dorks anyway. I try to do the best I can with this. Now to the best rankings in the business. May all your teams win this week!

Knownshon Moreno (ribs) is considered questionable to play week 16. His status won’t be known until later in the week. We will keep you posted.

Arian Foster (ankle, hip) is expected to be a full go this weekend, in many owners championship week. It would be a shame if the guy who most likely secured your playoff berth sat in your championship, but for now it looks like he’s going to be just fine.

Aaron Rodgers (concussion) has been medically cleared to play against the Giants in a must win game for both teams but especially Green Bay as their playoff hopes will be over with a loss. Great news to fantasy owners and Packer fans going into week 16.

Adrian Peterson’s sore right knee and thigh are improving greatly but he’s still questionable going into Sunday against the Eagles. They are preceding with caution with this injury and Toby Gerhart looked pretty good against a good Bears run defense except for the fumble he had so don’t be shocked if Toby draws a second straight start.

Panthers RB Mike Goodson sat out Tuesday’s practice with an illness. He’s basically irrelevant going forward as Jonathan Stewart has cemented his role as the lead back. Goodson will only be used on passing downs or to spell Stewart over the next two weeks.

Redskins have announced Rex Grossman will start this week with John Beck, not Donavan McNabb serving as the back up.

Cowboys have placed QB Tony Romo (broken collarbone) on IR thus ending his season and Jon Kitna, who has earned it, will start the team’s final two games.

Brett Favre left last nights blowout loss to the Bears in the second quarter after suffering a concussion. It is not yet known whether he will play again at this point meaning Joe Webb or Patrick Ramsey are likely to play the final two games.

12/20 Player News

Adrian Peterson is surprisingly inactive tonight because of knee/ankle injuries. This is a big blow for owners who had thought he would play.Vikings QB Brett Favre (shoulder) has been upgraded to questionable for tonight’s game against the Bears. This puts a bit of a damper on owners who were hoping to use rookie Joe Webb at wide receiver in some leagues. Favre will throw before the game to see if he can go. We will keep you updated on this news. UPDATE: Brett Favre will start tonight for the Vikings against the Bears. Joe Webb will be the back up.

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles had to be helped off the field yesterday but the good news is that it was only leg cramps, nothing more. So he’ll suit up next week against the Titans.

Fantasy’s number one player, Arian Foster missed most of the 4th quarter Sunday due to a muscle spasm in his glute aka his butt cheek. This will be interesting to follow going into most league’s finals. We’ll keep you up to date as we receive info.

Broncos QB Tim Tebow was fairly impressive in his first start yesterday, and obviously impressed his coaches and teammates enough to earn the starting gig the last two weeks of the season. RB Knowshon Moreno left Sunday’s loss to the Raiders early on with rib injury. The severity of the injury is not yet known and we’ll update you as more information becomes available.

Colts receiver Austin Collie (concussion) has likely played his final play of the 2010 season after suffering his third concussion in the last seven weeks. Before exiting Sunday’s game he did post up the second most fantasy points at receiver in standard scoring leagues. Hopefully his recovery goes well and he’ll have a big 2011 season.

Lions QB Drew Stanton suffered a Grade 3 separation of his non-throwing shoulder during Sunday’s win in Tampa. It may require surgery but since its his non throwing shoulder he may be able to play through it especially with Shaun Hill (finger) status going forward still up in the air.

Steelers TE Heath Miller who sat out Sunday’s loss to the Jets with a concussion is expected to return to the starting lineup Thursday night against the Panthers. Miller hasn’t been consistent enough to be counted on as more than a TE2 thus far in 2010.

Cardinals receiver Early Doucet left Sunday’s game against the Panthers with an injured hip and is expected to have an MRI later today or tomorrow. At this point in the season, Doucet can’t be counted on and shouldn’t be rostered in re-draft leagues.

Bengals WR Terrell Owens is undergoing season ending surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He is out for the season but vows he will be back for the 2011 season.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (concussion) status for Sunday’s game against the Giants won’t be updated until at least Wednesday. 3rd year QB Matt Flynn played pretty well last night in a hostile environment against the leagues best team until the end where his lack of experience took over. This week is a big game for both teams as their fighting for their playoff lives.

12/16 Player News

Chargers Antonio Gates (foot) and Malcom Floyd (hamstring) are out for tonights game against the 49ers.

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel (appendectomy)was limited in practice Thursday for the second straight day. The feeling around Kansas City is that he’ll be able to go but it’s obvious he’s not 100% just yet. Stay tuned.

Chris Ivory (hamstring) will be reevaluated tomorrow for his hamstring injury after getting an injection to promote the healing process. His status for this week is still up in the air. Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush would shoulder the load if Ivory couldn’t go.

Percy Harvin (migraine) returned to practice Thursday and is on schedule to start Monday night against the Bears. Rookie QB Joe Webb is also slated to make his first career start against the very tough Bears defense. I wouldn’t expect a ton out of Webb, but he is wide receiver eligible in yahoo league’s so he may be an asset their, especially if he can use his feet a little bit.

Raiders TE Zach Miller (foot) practiced in full Thursday and should be good to go Sunday against the Broncos. Miller finally posted solid numbers last week grabbing four balls for 68 yards, so he’s a solid start this week now that he seems to be healthy.

The Packers will make a decision on Aaron Rodgers (concussion) status by Saturday. The feel is that he won’t be able to go but we’ll just have to wait and see. Without Rodgers, the Pack has virtually no shot at beating the Patriots. Matt Flynn would make his first career start if Rodgers couldn’t go.

Austin Collie (concussion) is going to make his return Sunday in a big divisional game against the Jags. He’s a solid WR3. Joseph Addai (neck/shoulder) and Mike Hart (ankle) were both limited at practice Thursday and are not expected to play. Javarris James and Donald Brown will share the load with Jame’s being the much better flex start over Brown.

Desean Jackson (foot) was unable to practice Thursday but proclaims he’ll start on Sunday against the Giants. We’ll have to wait on see on this one, as DJax isn’t the only one who gets to make this decision.

Cardinals Beanie Wells (flu) and Steve Breaston (knee) were both limited in practice Thursday but both are expected to play. With Tim Hightower undoubtedly the better option at this point, keep Wells on your bench, if he’s still even owned in your league.

Kyle Orton (forearm) may be unable to go Sunday and has been unable to practice the last few days. Rookie Tim Tebow has been taking all the first team reps and would start if Orton wasn’t able to go. Brandon Lloyd (calf) returned to full participation in practice Thursday and will be good to go Sunday vs. the Raiders.

Arian Foster was added to the Texans injury report with a hip issue but has not sat out any practices. This is a good sign as the injury doesn’t appear to be serious and he is expected to play in a great matchup against the Titans.

Donald Driver (quad) is not listed on the Packers injury report after sitting out practice early in the week. He’s not a good start this week unless Rodgers is able to play.

David Garrard seemed to have tweaked his hamstring during Thursday’s practice or possibly Wednesday’s and was limited today. I wouldn’t worry to much about it as he’s a fighter and their is no way he’s sitting out against the Colts with the division on the line.

Patriots receiver Deion Branch (knee) was limited in practice today but should be fine and is expected to start against Green Bay Sunday.

Adrian Peterson (knee) was added to the Vike’s injury report Thursday but it is not thought of as serious and he should be good to go Monday night against the Bears.

Houston @ Philly (Thursday Night Preview)

By Steve DeAngelo

The Texans finally got a win after back to back brutal defeats to the Jaguars and Jets, blowing both games in the final seconds. You expected them to win against the Titans who were starting a rookie QB named Rusty White. The Eagles on the other hand lost on the road in Chicago as the Bears got it done on both defense and offense. This could be a tough spot for the Eagles. Even though they are home, they are coming of two physical games against the Giants and Bears now have to play in a short week. Meanwhile the Texans had a cakewalk last week against the Titans. Still the weakness of the Texans secondary should allow Vick and Co. to move the ball at will and preserve the victory.

Matt Schaub hasn’t been what owners expected this year with only 15 TD’s and it’s mainly due to not having the true 2nd option also with Andre Johnson playing hurt most of the year. Kevin Walter is not reliable either is Jacoby Jones. Owen Daniels was dead-solid for the Texans last year before he got hurt but has struggled to return from his ACL injury. Andre Johnson is the lone ranger at receiver in that offense, but even he hasn’t met expectations with only 5 TD’s this year. You expect more from the #1 ranked Fantasy Wideout coming into this season. Still, Johnson should finish with around 12-1300 yards and 7-9 TD’s with close to 100 catches. Let’s not forget about Joel Dreesen who has produced at TE in the absence of Daniels. Dreesen has started 6 games and has 22 catches for 336 yards and 4 TD’s. Schaub likes to target Dreesen especially since Walter and Jones struggle to get open. Dreesen has scored a TD in his last 2 games.

The Eagles secondary struggled last week allowing 4 TD’s to Jay Cutler and 247 yards. That however was without Asante Samuel playing and the Bears took full advantage. Samuel is a Game-Time decision Thursday, but since he practiced all week he should play. If Samuel Plays I am not so confident in Schaub tonight, if Samuel doesn’t play then I think the Texans can pull of the upset on the road here. The Eagles lead the league in Interceptions at 19 and Samuel has 7 of them. Samuel will disrupt the Texans passing game and easily could take one to the house. Think about it, The turnover prone Jay Cutler was without a pick last week , if Samuel is playing he’s throwing at least one, which could of changed the game. The Eagles rank 13th in passing yards per game at 214 so I wouldn’t expect a ton of yards from Schaub tonight. However the Eagles have let up the 4th most passing TD’s at 22 so expect Johnson or Joel Dreesen or possibly both to score. Also the Eagles are letting up the 27th most points to Tight Ends, so good things could be in store for Dreesen tonight.  Stay away from Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones. Owen Daniels has already been ruled out so forget about him.

Will the Eagles be able to stop Arian Foster? Well they couldn’t stop Matt Forte last week, so I highly doubt they will be able to stop the league’s leading rusher. Foster should easily get over 100 total yards, his rushing numbers could only dwindle if his defense let’s this game get out of hand which is possible. Foster should finish with about 120-150 total yards with at least one score.

Despite Michael Vick continuing to put up pretty solid numbers, defenses have done a much better job against him in recent weeks or it could be he actually faced two good defenses in the Giants and Bears. This week he gets a much easier test vs the 2nd worst secondary in the league in Houston. They would probably still rank last if they didn’t face Rusty Smith last week. The Texans are letting up 286 yards per game and have let up a league high 25 TD’s through the air. They have also let up the most 40+ yards plays all year at 13. This is the perfect recipe for Vick, Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. Could we see a repeat of what we saw vs the Redskins? Possibly, although I wouldn’t expect that type of onslaught. The Texans at least have Mario Williams who could disrupt Vick a bit, but not enough to effect him as Vick should find open wideouts all day long. Jackson and Maclin have had back to back quiet weeks but expect them to rebound big time tonight. Last week the Bears took away Maclin and Jackson, So Vick went back to his old ways of hitting the tight end and got Brent Celek back into the mix. Celek had a nice game last week with 3 catches for 50 yards and a TD. I would continue to be patient with Brent as he could start to be a factor in these coming weeks. Due to the Matchup, Jason Avant is also worth a look as a flex play tonight. He could easily find the endzone and put up around 50-70 yards.

The Texans are pretty good statistically against the run ranked 9th overall, but that is definitely inflated because people just come out and pass on them. Lesean Mcoy should enjoy a nice game regardless if he get’s it done on the ground or not. Expect over 100 total yards with 3-5 catches and a possible score.

In the end this game should be high scoring with the Texans playing catch up most of the night. If Samuel Plays and I expect he will, expect Schaub to throw at least 1 pick his way. Andre Johnson will put up nice numbers as will Joel Dreesen and we could see a TD from both. Vick should have an excellent day as the Eagles bounce back and get a win here against the Texans. Eagles 34 Texans 24

A Shootout in Indy- Texans @ Colts Breakdown

By: Rick Findura

Looking at tonight’s matchup between the Colts and the Texans I see one thing above all else.  Points pouring out of the side of Lucas Oil Stadium.  If you’re a fan of low scoring fare such as the Packers/Jets matchup, Or a physical showdown like the Steelers/Saints excellent Sunday Night game, this may not be the game for you.
Let’s start with the Colts offense.  You can probably start and end with the Colts offense actually.  Peyton Manning is coming off a bye week.  The Texans have the worst pass defense in the league. (306 passing yards a game!)  Peyton Manning still has a right arm.  All things that spell bad news for the Texans.  I know the Texans took the opening game of the season against the Colts, but as anyone can tell you, things get different as the season gets going.  I expect big games from both Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon.  Both are players that can work deep down the field, and that’s where the Texans struggle the most.  Jacob Tamme may get some opportunities at the tight end spot, but I feel it’s the receivers on the outside that will do most of the damage. Donald Brown and Mike Hart may get a few carries, but after the Colts stop trying to be cute, Manning will drop back and pick apart the Texans at will.  Anthony Gonzalez might get some looks but not enough in my opinion to warrant a start.  Expect Wayne and Garcon to combine for over 200 yards and perhaps even 3 scores.
In week 1 Arian Foster flat out embarrassed the Colts defense.  Their defense is5th worst in the league stopping the run (137 a week). They can’t let him to do it again.  I do feel as though Foster will have a solid game, at the start.  The problem here is that the Colts will get out to a big enough lead that the Texans will have to air it out.  If you own Foster, hope that he gets a lot done in the first half.  Matt Schaub is no stranger to slinging it around.  The Texans haven’t had to do it much this season with Foster providing a nice balance to the offense.  But when he’s had to (check week 2, 497 yards) he will.  Don’t look for 500 yards, but I do think Schaub will throw it enough to go over 300 yards.  Most of that damage will be to Andre Johnson in the second half.  Expect Schaub to get the ball to his best option about 8 times for 120 and a TD, if not more.  Owen Daniels can have a decent game as well.  When Johnson isn’t getting the ball, it’ll be either Jacoby Jones or Kevin Walter, don’t look for both of them to have a great fantasy week, but 1 of them should…I’m leaning toward Walter, call it a gut feeling.  Look for the Texans to do most of their damage in mop-up time.  And who in fantasy football doesn’t love mop-up time?  When you’re going against a quarterback and the defense goes into a prevent D, and they march down the field and score in 6 plays.  Yeah, I know…it’ll either help you or absolutely kill you.
All in all, this is one of those rare games where there isn’t an obvious bad fantasy play.  Well, besides the Texans and Colts defenses. Manning, Wayne, Garcon are great plays.  Schaub and Johnson are great plays as well.  Foster can be a great play if the Texans can keep it close.  Expect a lot of fantasy implications taking place in Indy on Monday Night.

Prediction:  Colts 38, Texans 27

10/11 Player News

Rams WR Mark Clayton, who was finally coming into his own, suffered a knee injury Sunday against the Lions and is done for the year. Danny Amendola’s value skyrockets now and it remains to be seen whether or not Laurent Robinson will stay healthy or Brandon Gibson or rookie Mardy Gilyard will step up. The biggest loser in all of this is Sam Bradford, who failed to develop any type of rhythm after the Clayton injury.  SOURCE: Jim Thomas on Twitter

Green Bay TE Jermichael Finley was carted off the field today with a leg injury as well. He will undergo an MRI Monday. Finley apparently is dealing with a displaced hamstring, which is an extremely rare injury to have. Initially they thought it was a knee injury which would have been terrible news, but it looks like this won’t be season ending and he could be back within a week or two. We’ll keep you up to date on this situation throughout the week.

Green Bay may have also suffered an even bigger loss Sunday with QB Aaron Rodgers who suffered a concussion during the overtime period. He will undergo and have to pass numerous tests throughout the week in order to play week 6 so stay tuned to the situation. If he can’t go this week, Matt Flynn will get the start.  SOURCE: Jim Thomas on Twitter

Browns RB Peyton Hillis, who missed most of the teams practices leading into Sunday’s game with the Falcons with a quad injury, reaggravated it during the game. He put up a pretty productive fantasy day and probably isn’t in danger of missing week 6 but monitor the situation closely. He may be a guy you want to bench next week anyway as they travel to Pittsburgh to face the leagues best run defense, and not to mention the return of Ben Roethlisberger. SOURCE: Nate Ulrich on Twitter

In other Browns news, QB Seneca Wallace, who got the start Sunday, left the game with a sprained ankle. The early reports are that he is unable to put any weight on the injured ankle. Jake Delhomme replaced him and did what Jake does and threw 2 interceptions.

Cowboys rookie receiver Dez Bryant suffered an ankle injury in the first half of Sundays loss against the Titans. He did return shortly thereafter but had a noticeable limp. His availability for next week is not yet known.

Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski , who was having a shoulder issue coming into the week, left the game in the 2nd quarter after being sacked. He reaggravated the injury and Jason Campbell replaced him and lead the Raiders to their first victory over the Chargers in 13 meetings dating back to 2003. We’ll monitor this situation closely as he would have a pretty good matchup week six against the now winless 49ers.

Another player I own in a few leagues, Colts RB Joseph Addai , left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. The fact that he left the game and didn’t return is never a good sign but lets just hope it was precautionary. Donald Brown would get the start next Sunday in Washington, if he is healed up from his hamstring injury otherwise it would be Mike Hart, who ran pretty well against a solid Chiefs rush defense.

Lions WR Calvin Johnson injured his shoulder during Sunday’s blowout win over the Rams. It is not believed to be serious and more of a precaution. Check back in the coming days for updates.

Texans RB Arian Foster suffered a knee injury but reiterated after the game, “i’m fine” and I think we believe him as of right now. We’ll continue to monitor his status but I wouldn’t worry too much about him in week 6.

Eagles WR Desean Jackson(knee) and TE Brent Celek(possible concussion) both left Sunday night’s game against the 49ers. The severity of these injuries is not yet known but we will continue to keep track of both and keep you up to date.

Broncos rookie DeMaryius Thomas left Sunday’s road loss to the Ravens after just being absolutely leveled on a kickoff return. As of now the exact injury is not yet clear, although by the looks of it, I would figure it was some type of head injury, probably a concussion but we will keep you posted on his status.

Chargers WR Legedu Naanee left in the first half of Sunday’s loss to the Raiders with a hamstring injury and was unable to return after the half. Naanee, a guy I was very high on coming into the season, hasn’t done much since his big week 1 performance and is clearly behind Malcom Floyd (8 for 213 1TD Sunday) for targets and even Buster Davis at the moment.
